What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

The OEM ones are out there but pricey. let us know how well this swap goes and what all will be involved. I would like to replace mine so I can see the coolant level.
I looked into getting this new container to work and the only way I can get it to work is if I ditch the K47 and use a basic silicone 90 degree elbow with cone shaped air filter.Even the 92-96 flat panel air filter setup doesn’t give me the clearance I need.

Also a different wiring connector from a 01 will be needed for the coolant sensor. The connector on our 90s trucks won’t fit.I just wanted to update everyone.

The part number from arp for the M10 bolts is 430-3511.They fit perfectly.
Somehow I missed the info in this post. Thank you. I ordered them this morning. I found the bolts I did have saved after we got home but…3/8”, not M-10. I’d have screwed up and tried these out had it not been for this experience.
So, again, thanks for the assist.

Not a problem.Glad to help out anyway possible. You’ll definitely like those arp bolts the minute you attempt to install them. They fit quite snug going up into the starter housing.I put antiseize on them just to make things a little easier.

Cut and assembled a 6AN Turbo Oil Feed Line for BigT's new motor. Tested it to 55 PSI with soapy water at all points and no bubbles. Added the x2 NPT-6AN fittings for the motor and the turbo sides too. Otherwise, no bueno.

Swapped in the ARP Starter Bolts and packed up the one I scavenged from BigT when doing the starter cross wire boogie at his place last month. Will bring it, the Turbo Oil Feed Line and the injectors I pop tested (ungood chatter and patterns on most of them) to the salt flats and, when the word comes that his new motor is delivered, will head up there from the Salt Flats.

Packed the truck for the Salt Flats. Clothes, tools, EGO batteries, etc. are in the cab.

Will be camping with Heath and a few other folks above the flats through 9 AUG (weather permitting...rain in the forecast starting Tuesday) and during the days, crewing for Mursik Racing and this little VW 1.8 TDI powered go getter. Current record for this class is 130 something. He'll break that and push it up higher.

Oh yeah, picked up this Touareg consolation gift but, not diesel. VW Atlas, gas 4banger. 270 HP and 273torque.
1722544334071.jpegTow rated to 5000# but one would be really stupid to stress that little power plant for any length of time. Weighs about as much as the truck and on the first tank, got about the same MPGs (20.7 ish) but, lots of idle time trying to unscrew some of the factory settings to what we want and there's not telling if the stealership worker actually filled the tank. Still, not a bad ride.

Love this, with the exception of Hitler’s Revengereg.

Morning on the Salt is my favorite time

Waiting to get closer to the start line so I can do final prep and get the driver safely inserted into the car.

Salt for a hard boiled egg breakfast is easy to come by though.

Not sleeping under the stars again. It rained for short periods of time each night around 11pm to midnight for the first 4 nights with just enough wind to push my longer hair across my face…AARRGGG. I would bail out of the sack, cover up bedding with a tarp weighed down by bags and hop in the truck for 20 min. to and hour or so and then try to get back to sleep. Spent two nights in a hotel when Maggie came out with a tent for the rest of the week. I need a better tent that will last more than one night’s wind storms. Cabella’s brand was a FAIL with parts breaking on set up. Wolf Trader Cot was a fail also.
Before the windstorm on the one (and final night) of having “shelter”. Tent grommets failed and the cot’s main hinge broke. Good thing I’m an old ‘Boy Scout’ with lashing skills…at midnight…
IMG_9717.jpeg

Thursday morning (8 AUG) the owner came out and said we were done. “And there was much rejoicing” as we had three more days left. His back had finally convinced him to stop. Former Army Ranger, Red Bull Stunt Rider, High Pressure Pipe Welder etc. have taken their toll on him too.

Memorable time. It’ll seem like a good time later after the fatigue from 14 hr days outside in 100 degree heat and sleepless nights wears off.

Rest up brotha, because I'm gonna need ya.

Rest up brotha, because I'm gonna need ya.
Got a break in that department.
Bill doesn’t need me in WA next week so I can rest up, head your way Thursday and get started prepping what still needs doing while you slave away Friday. Drop it in Saturday/Sunday. If it doesn’t start, I’ll throw more $5 bills on Waynes shop floor as I flee Monday.

IMG_5091.jpegIMG_5098.jpegWorked on pulling the engine on the ‘99 Sunurban, but it’s become a bigger job because the engine is seized and can’t be rotated to remove the bolts attaching the torque converter to the flex plate. So we can’t separate engine from transmission and they have to come out together. I will pull the transfer case before pulling the engine and transmission to lighten the load. Will have to pull the radiator core support and we’ll lose the ac refrigerant.

IMG_5152.jpegIMG_5153.jpegKnown cause of death: oil cooler line rubbed through at engine mount. Specifically, found the motor mount bolt (goes through the mount) had lost its nut and had almost fully backed out of the mount. I had the local mech install energy suspension black urethane mounts when I had the transmission replaced two years ago. The passenger side mount and transmission mounts were fine.
