Found a k3500 ecdrw

Heard/read somewhere that a stainless bolt can't take as much torque as a grade 10.9 bolt. Can't remember where i heard/read it. Don't know if it is true or not either. Any manifold bolts i've ever done have been slathered with 2000*F+ Copper anti-seize and i use grade 10.9 bolts. I used grade 12.9 allen head bolts in my blazer for the two exhaust manifold bolts that were missing when i bought it.

I used grade 8.8 cause it was all I could find. I may change them later.

Last manifold i did(passenger side only on a 97 6.5TD) the owner couldn't find enough 10.9 bolts so we tossed in some 8.8s in the mix with the intent to change them to 10.9s. Haven't changed them and they are still holding so it'll be left alone.

I was under the impression that in ex manifolds ss bolts have a tendency to shear off when removing them. Now i always use never-sieze anyways, but i fear that with the high temperatures, it really dosent do anything after it burns off. Is there a high-temp never sieze available?

YOu quoted IAMDAVE saying he uses 2000 degree copper anti-sieze. If you plan on running your manifolds over 2000 degrees, you'll probably have other issues to worry about besides removing the bolts :)

Kenny have you priced out simulators or are you waiting for used set to pop up?

I'd really like a set too. On CL there is a place that sells them for 150 new. Thats not bad at all.

The true beauty of the simulators is you can rotate all your tires around. Painting the frontside and the backside of all 6 tires is just a task n a half...

Good call.........haha didnt really think about the temp rating he put in. Answers my question

At some point. Just want to get her running for now. fired it up tonight and it sounded horrible. Sounded like it developed a rod knoc and ran like overall crap...I was about to get my smiley ready:suicide: but then a vioce from the netherworld of the Force reached out to commune with me. It was GMCTD saying...Be patient..this is normal...The system has air and the PCM is going nuts trying to balance it out...Drive it my young paduan...drive it....And then his silouette dissapeared. So I took it for a good 30 min cruise on the hwy and by the time I got off it was purring so smooth I was sheddin tears of joy. Now the only thing pissing me off what the new tires that shake like a dog shittin razorblades. It's goin back and they are gonna get em balanced or git me some new skins. Otherwise it runs great. felt weird a few times when I hammered it and it felt like a light delay for the engine to react when I let off but I think I'm just used to driving the 6.2s again and forgot that drive by wire has it's own feel.

Your right Kenny. Just need to put some miles on her... It takes a while to develope 'faith' in a 6.5 unfortunately.. it will come.

You selling the GMCTD hologram? I could use one!

The Anti-seize i use is made by Steelman/Versachem(although my bottles say Steelman on the top).

I have no idea who carries it as i got the two bottles from a friend of mine, but it's never burned off anything i've put it on. It's on my injectors, glowplugs, exhaust manifold studs, t-stat housing bolts. It's everywhere. ):h

Anyone living in the rust belt, or who frequently works on archaic vehicles knows the value of never-sieze (and the fire wrench)

I Snapped the last glow plug in the head last night:mad: Drivers side rear. Doesn't seem to be leaking compression so I'm leaving it be. It starts fine without it.

ANY irrigation or hardware store has it around here and most auto parts stores. Check plumbing sections, particularly where they sell galvanized and black iron threaded pipe fittings.

Talked to Bill H today. He doesn't like using ex manifold gaskets but i told him the head didn't look great either so whadda ya gonna do right ? HAd the tire place rebalance the front tires and truck still shakes. They said it's my rims...BS. It wasn't shaking with the old tires. I guess I gotta find another set to try before I call my friggin lawyer. WTF. I spend the money to do things right and always get burned..:suicide:

Rotate tires and see if the shake goes to the seat. Then have them unmount the tires and spin up the rims looking for bends or out of round. This would prove it isn't the rims.
