What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

She’s a twerked. I mean torque down

Looking at the pulley. It needs to go…. For now I’m going to run it till the end of the month at least and invest into a new one. It’s not too bad to remove without having to pull the fan and shroud again

Found what I think is the the leak on my power steering. Tried snugging up the adjustment nut while I was there. Hope that’s it. Now that the belt is back on it’s time for a test fire

On the fan hub nut. I use a big open ended wrench, slip thst over some flats so the wrench handle is accessible, beat that handle in an offwards direction with the 3 pound hammer, that nut will let loose.
Installation the same except in the opposite direction with the hammerin.

I have a tool to lock the fan hub and a wrench to fit it. They sell them at NAPA.

I need to invest into the tool for the water pump. I was using the biggest filter plyers I had on it to keep it from turning. I won’t use a hammer on the wrench when I have to reuse the pump

Well it’s all back together and running well. Yay it lives again lol

But they also have fixed versions of the spanner wrench.

Not a GMT thing, but our “order” made in December 2022 for a 2023 Toyota 4Runner Off-road in Lunarock arrived today. It is my wife’s car and she is “gob-struck.” We are keeping the 2014 SR5 which will have 330K miles on it by the time she drives it back down to SoCal for me to change the oil. The 2014 has no issues, runs strong and should see 500K miles. I did replace an alternator back in December, which was the first major repair work. That was the inspiration for the new one, as I need the utmost reliability for my wife. I simply hate those calls “Steve…..”. She will pick it up tomorrow.

Well correction in order. The 4Runner that arrived is an Offroad Premium and we’re looking for just the Offroad. Premiums have Softex leather, sun roofs and some have KDSS suspension (releasing sway bar) all of which we don’t want. So the wait continues.

Well on mine today, I got to tear down the front again. pulled the new HB off and power washed the front of the engine. the tool for the water pump pulley wouldn't fit. I had to modify it to get both pins into the pulley. also discovered that a 2" piece of PVC fits perfectly in the crank seal to keep water out of the engine while I washed off the front. letting it all dry over night before attempting round 2 on the front seal.

I had to grind a curve out on one leg of the scissor tool lock to get it to fit around the fan hub.

I tried grinding one side but it wasn't enough. ended up grinding both sides. after that it worked like a charm. I almost wanted to cut the hooks on the ends off but decided not to. I'm not sure when I'll ever need them but ya just never know LOL

Well out with the leaker and in with the new. Got the truck back together and praying 🙏 🙏 there’s no more oil leak! It cleaned up nicely with the power washer. Used some sealant where the oil seal goes in this time. If it still leaks I would be curious if the lower part of the water pump back plate is to blame? 🤷‍♂️

One thing I noticed is a tiny trail and a water droplet at the bottom of the water pump….. that’s a GM pump that hasn’t even been on there for a year yet. I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see that!
