Resurecting New Engine

I remember you saying something about that there a while back, didn't a truck fall on you or something?

Yeah. I was just shy of leaving for vacation by 4 hours or so. My brother couldnt get the driveshaft separated from the rear differential yoke. It was a '92 full size blazer. It was up on blocks. But it wasnt chocked. And in the middle of me prying the driveshaft out i realized when you remove the driveshaft the vehicle is no longer in park. Too late for that. I tried to roll flat as i was laying on my side parallel with thevehicle. It rolled off the 8 inch blocks onto me. Scary moment right there. Transmission cross member landed on my side before i rolled flat. Cracked my pelvis in 4 spots symmetrically and bruised my bladder. Was a couch potato for 6 months. Went back to work at 8 months. Disability was a joke..

Damn, and you're still feeling it...

Now you're a meteorologist.. Now your bones can accurately tell you when it's gonna rain!

Thats the truth! My girfriend suffers from migraines and she can feel the weather. I used to be that way but now the cold winters bother me the most. Just glad to still be on this planet!

Thats some scary stuff right there. Could have been alot worse. I had heard a story of a guy who was under a raised truck and accidentally jumped the solenoid wire on the starter. Well the truck started right up, drove over the ramps and crushed him. His family came home to find him dead in the driveway. Gotta be careful with this kinda stuff.

Progress on the truck is looking good. The price on the trans sounds about right. I have a friend of a friend who offered to rebuild mine for about $400 plus parts.

When i started working on vehicles after the accident i had flashbacks pretty bad. Now its not too bad but still some once and a while.

Got the second quote in and its 800. So i guess im gonna go with the 600 dollar guy. Have to wash the transmission good. I dont have a truck to tranport the transmission now so im gonna try and wedge it in my wrangler.

Yeah, i get nervous under trucks sometimes. Had one fall off a while back but i wasnt on the creeper so i just barely cleared. I recently fell off the top of my tractor onto concrete and got pretty bruised up and sprained both wrists (this was last week) and havent felt much like crawling under my truck and my wrists hurt with a wrench in hand so my tranny is waiting.

Currently working on getting an exhaust flange for the wh1c so i can weld a down pipe together. Ive found a plate for 35 bucks. Not sure if i want 3/8 thickness or 1/2..

Brought the parts out for some pressure washing. They were platered in grease/grime. Helped a bit, but not perfect.

Still waiting on the transmission to be rebuilt. Guy told me parts were going to be about 500 bucks. Hopefully another week and it will be done. Im getting antsy to get my truck back..

Here are some pictures of last weekends progress.

Future note, if your going to do the snorkle mod, make sure your fender isnt rotted out allowing water to get into the box.

Since it was an early morning i chose non-alcholic beverage.

And of course what would this job be without broken bolts!!

Also removed some A/C parts. Look whats behind there from 1 year of use!

What wastegate are you going to run on your WH1C? I might shoot Bruce a msg and see if his HX turbomaster would work, my actuator was rusted off. I am working on using the DP conection from the old exhaust of my Dmax to make an adapter elbow, its already bent over 90 and kinda cobra shaped elbow. I think it will work but i want to get my inner fender back in and test fit it all.

Torque converter also, right?

Not sure, but, you might need a fender or two.

Torque converter included, im a little scared because i dont know what brand he is going to use. But im running out of time again (school starts in 2 weeks plus cold season fastly approaching). I need to start getting this rig back together.

I picked up a whole front clip about 4 years ago. When i replaced the engine 3 years ago i put on the new inner fenders and radiator support. But decided to rot my fenders for another season or two before putting on my green ones.

I had to take apart the antenna mounts, because they changed radio connections from my 94' to the 98' (female to male connectors). Had to put mine in the new fender. Will have pictures to come in a few days of that.

The WH1C turbo is identical to the HX-35, however it is band clamped together vs. bolted. Ive also noticed a small bit of play in the WH1C turbine.

Ive heard that play needs to be checked when the bearing is pressurized with oil. Is this true?

Im definately going to buy Bruces kit to install the turbo, i dont have a welder so fabrication is a no go. I am really trying to afford his Turbo Master for the HX, should work with the WH1C. Will see what funds allow. The Holset also did come with the Vacuum diaphram, so i may be able to make a Turbo Master out of it. So i think the only fabricating i need is the turbo inlet to my K47 airbox.

A little trick for future would be stuck bolts. This stuff is good for preserving the pinch welds also because it goes on watery thin and wicks it's way into the places where the corrosion starts.. It's a wax/grease based stuff that will not flake off. Sill allows water 'drainage'. It's great for the clip-nuts that hold body parts on.

At least it delays the inevitable.. :D

Ill have to look for some of this stuff. I just picked up some undercoating to do my innner fenders again.. I used this stuff in the bottom of the radiator core support and it still looks good. Im going to get some POR-15 or something of the nasty nature to try and protect my rig a little better. Last year i oiled most of my frame, but with all the washings i give the truck over the winter i think it cleans it off.

Im at the same point with mine. I have a welder just not where I work on my trucks so fab is tough when I take measurements drive 30 miles then don't get to test fit until later. Bruces kit will likely find its way to my truck. My buddy has a genuine holset 40 t3 18cm from his 24valve he might let me use then buy if it works.

Good info! Mine still feels tight, less than .001 movement if even that, supposedly has 140K miles on it. I'm gonna keep those links on file just in case tho.
