Resurecting New Engine

Wheel bearing will suck because they are around $200 ea. Not to bad of a job, just takes time.

Hey guy, just got back from class. Stopped at my local NAPA to check out the part they list for my truck @ 8600 GVW, its a whole hub assembly. Gonna cost about 180 with tax and a student discount. Will start tearing it apart tonight i hope!

did you check out the prices on that link?

I was checking out that link, 149.99 Plus S&H. I was selecting the vehicle tho and it didnt come up with any K2500's.. Could just be my work internet not allowing it, but i did see a burb and it showed 8600 GVW, so it should be the same part as my truck. But i got more confused when it said without ABS... I need to see if mine has a plug on it, what is that plug for? I thought the 94 and older didnt have front ABS? Or was it rear? I think ive confused myself? Im going to dis-assemble it but not buy the part quite yet, i dont have enough funds.. We will have to see after this credit card payment and Jeep loan payment whats left for retaining life these days, i mean buying fuel...

Well, been searching all over, its going to be very hard and expensive to obtain a Timken brand. The better NAPA brand is SKF. Autozone sells the Duralast Gold for 128.99.. none of the 8 stud hubs (which i nee) come with the studs, only the 6 studders do. Now im seeing hub assemblies without the harness. I just need to get mine apart for now to see what i have, there are soo many part numbers out there...

The plow probably doesn't help much. You going to replace both or just one side?

Unfortunately right now i cant afford to do both sides. But its going to be a mental note to either replace the other in near future, or to keep a regular eye on it so it doesnt get this bad again. The truck was in tip top shape just before we left to go on the 800 mile trip. So it must have been starting to go, but wasnt loose yet. The trip must have done most of the wear at the end. But with the trailer and Jeep in tow the truck never made any binding noise. Must have been enough weight on the back end to cantelever the front some? To alleviate it? Im lucky i made it home.. Didnt get a chance to take it apart yet, last night turned into sitting at a verizon store to figure out why my G/F's droid got reactivated (1.5 hours to get no-where, hard reset and she lost everything), then we got home to cook dinner, never ending college homework, by then it was 9:30 and i didnt want to go outside, so i started dismantleing old servers from the workplace so i can take the cases and metal parts to the scrap. Thats the main reason for the push to get the truck going, my scrap pile is huge!

When I get back home I have a toyota v6 that needs to come apart and go to the scrappers and whatever else I can dig up. Thats should give me some money for body parts or gauges. Buying diesel fuel doesnt help with making money hauling in some scrap.

My friend is taking apart a '95 Jeep G/C, its almost stripped down to a body (control arms rotted off, and its a unibody so thats the end of it), we need to figure out some way i can get it on a trailer and get it to the scrap for him. I have tons of old vehicle parts, but we just replaced about 12 of our servers. It cost the company money to have someone pick them up, but if i do it all i make money for free (well the time it takes me to transport them to the yard, and dismantle time), but its basically a bonus on top of all my stuff. Hopefully will start it tonight, depending on the 6-10'' snow storm thats going to hit in a few hours.

I dont much care about steel, copper and aluminum seem to be where the money is. Lead is a big money maker too.

Where I used to rabbit hunt there was a old pickup, a car of some sort and some other junk. It was like a old farm dump back in the woods. I guess scrappers got to it and cleaned every piece of metal out of there.

I did front brakes last year on my truck. Might be a wise choice to do front brakes at the same time as the wheel bearings, as the wheel bearings need to come off to do the front brakes and vice versa. The wheel bearing job sucks if the head of the 4 bolts that are on the spindle are at all rotted. If they are, you'll need to put heat on them. Like I said, if your trucks brakes are questionable I'd def do front brakes. Not to expensive if your using autozone parts. Good looking truck so far...I have the 8600 GVW truck...with a 350 though...its a beast with a plow on it! Good luck with the rest of your build!

Im not sure on the price in Central NY. I make about 4 trips a year. Will find out when i take it all, they write it on the reciept.

Yeah in the hood here they take manhole covers, but places you go wont take them. They also break into homes and steal all the copper. I have a bunch of aluminum to take too, but not much copper..

Thanks! The truck had a complete brake job the end of last summer. So everything is really brand new, hardly driven it since then. Maybe the only thing that could prolly be replaced due to age is the pass side caliper. I replaced the drivers side last year..

Ive got some big copper pipe, some is thick 2" and some thin 4". I hate to haul it in because I look at all that money sitting there but once you get the cash it vanishes quick. Normally in the gas tank.

I feel sick when I go to the scrap yard when I see all that good farm equipment people dump. They wont sell it for some reason. They guys who work there like to trash stuff. There was a nice ford dump truck and the picked it up and dropped it on the roof. I seen them toss a nice big oliver tractor up ontop a huge pile. I cant believe the stuff people haul in.

Yeah, i feel the same way. Some stuff is better meant for rebuilding. Here its usually dead due to rust...
