Resurecting New Engine

Next upgrade will be a GL4.... I hate it when the torque converter locks in, i can go any slower than 53 to have the converter locked up. Waste of fuel plus it almost feels like it has more grunt locked in than at 2300rpm...

In the meantime, you might want to think about the TCC lock mod... only takes a 3-position switch and some wire. Might be a nice idea to do the high-idle mod and the glow-plug extender mod at the same time.

The three of 'em won't cost you more than about $25 or $30, and they're all handy in the winter.

Just sayin'.

Nice job, by the way... good to hear the old girl running so smooth!

For sure, this is a must do mod IMO for OBD1 peeps, and I never even tried it. I wish I had control of TCC with a button... The want is compounded with weigh. I'm green with envy.

I think i get how the mod is wired up, but i really dont get how to use it? All i really want is it to go into high gear or lockup at like 48 or something. A lot of roads around here i cruise at 52-3 mps, so it is always suckin fuel. So you can lock the converter up in each gear? Or do you need to switch it off, then on shift and repeat?

Jim,

I'm about to order the Heath chip, and from what I understand it has a programmed feature to extend glow time already. Would the glow plug extender mod add any value past the Heath Chip (or, would it be too long to have both)? Thanks.

Jon, you will be fine with an extended glow time if the plugs are Delco 60g's or Bosch Duraterms. I don't know how long Heaths extended glow cycle is but you won't hurt the plugs by extending further. I have the switch and use it in very cold starts.

Well, this seems to be the wrap-up of my thread. Here are some pics of the truck loaded back up. Spent about 1/2 the day today cleaning chrome, armor all-ing the tonnaou, sanding the yellow off the headlights and spray waxing it. Looks pretty nice, all except for the "psoriasis", however you spell it. Turck has ran excellent the past 350 miles. A few little leaks here and there due to me forgetting to tighten clamps. Overall this has costed me in the ball park of 3,700 dollars. Its worth it when you hear it start in cold weather. Next year will be the whole body. MANY THANKS TO ALL THAT HAVE HELPED!!

If you think of that as an investment, its not that much money over time for what you now have.

Good job man. Go enjoy yourself a well earned beer! (or two!)

Thanks guys, she is sitting in the garage right now, will for the next few weeks so i can watch for leaks. Yeah, bout that beer, might go have one right now:thumbsup:...

Good job man. I really like that set of wheels over the PYO's I'm running. Those look just another notch nicer I think. Well done.

I really wanted PYO's. But these came up for the right price. Got a good deal on them, glad i picked them up.

Nice job man! :D

There's nothing like completing a big project. It gives you such a feeling of pride. You did an amazing job.

Thinking about linking this thread together with some new mods. Kinda like an expanded build thread, good to have all my pics in one place. Tonight i am going to replace the back brakes and drums, i really need to do the backing plates and wheel cylinders, but i have to go to Fredericksburg, VA on the 19th of this month. So for now i will just do a quick brake job and later i will pull it apart again. Then i have the FTB mod almost completed, just need to add a few more things. I also picked up an WH1C, and a cummins inter-cooler that i will also document when i get to them. Then the body is in need of repair. So i just bought a Jeep grand cherokee that has minimal issues and i will post pics later. Stay tuned...
