Resurecting New Engine

Well, i better not have any play whatsoever in the steering system. I just got done replacing everything. Steering gear box, pump, tie rods (inner and outer), stabilizer shock, pitman arm, idler arm, and pitman idler arm. I definately spen a lot more money there than i thought i was going to. Sucks.... Prolly got 500 in just steering parts...

Yes, they were real bad. The bolt that held it in was rotted to almost nothing. So i had to peel the rubber part off, but it came off super easy, so it was shot. Then got the grinder out and grinded the rubber end of the stud off, then popped the leftover through the hole. Im pretty good at getting pics, and i like to take them. But im just so dirty when working on this grease pig, and i hate touching my brand new 10 megapixel camera. So thats kinda why i get pic of the project before and after, not in the middle...):h

D-Slug, Excellent, excellent work!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why havn't you spraybombed that chassis yet???

I want to know much much mroe about those timbren's. How they work, how much they cost, how hard to install, looks like a few holes to drill? Do they compromise cab ride at all? How do they take the weight of the plow without sagging the suspension??

Keep it up bro! Lookin very promising! Attaboy's to you!

On the timbren kit, installation is easy, and there is NO drilling needed. There are already two holes in the plate where the original bumpstop is, but the bumpstop actually only uses one. So you need to take the stop off, and it comes with two bolts to bolt the heavy piece of metal in there, then the rubber just bolts right to it and sits above the "knub" on the lower a arm. There is about 1 inch of clearence right now between the bottom of the stop and the a-arm. The kit cost me 200 dollars for the front kit, and the guy added in a 1.5 inch rear block for free which i didnt use. I ended up buying a set of add a leaves for the rear, so when i lifted my truck (was saggin horribly low due to the plow and 15 years) i lifted it 1 or so inches. I love the way it sits now, not to high and i can run 285's easy. We will find out how they ride when she is back in motion. On the shassis i actually scraped and chisled it. So the loose rust is off. ANd i sprayed it with 1 coat of eastwood extreme chassis black, that im not very hapy with, takes over 24 hours to dry... I was going to buy a sandblzaster and do a lot of stuff with it, but due to the enormouns amount of money i put into the front end parts i am rapidly running out of cash. I am in the 2,500 dollar project range right now.....

I really want those timbrens. Anyone else run them with a plow? My 9' welded plow weighs well over 1000 lbs!

Screw that fancy frame paint crap and sandblast. Pick up 5 cans of the best rustoleum gloss black and everytime you're under your truck bring a can with you.

Gonna have to hit it again no matter what living in these salt belts. Might as well make it cheap and easy. I was gonna get some 70 buck/gallon frame paint stuff that suppost to chemically cancel rust and blah blah blah.... I still may, but in the mean time i picked up 20 bux worth of Industrial/Proffesional rustoleum gloss black, and there is NOTHING orange under my truck anymore. Driveshaft, exhaust, rear end, leaf springs, all black. Looks nice, very very nice!

RockAuto has the Timbrens for my truck for 185 bux... plus that 5% discount code....

Gonna take all my willpower NOT to get them when I order my front shocks next......... Damnit, when will it end?

More Progress...

I'm a sucker for a pretty engine. :drool5:

It looks great. I know you said you used Eastwood paint on the block/heads/etc. The paint on the exhaust manifolds, is that Eastwood as well?

The manifold gray is VHT brand, another very good paint, kinda expensive too...

Awesome work!!
At Brain Trauma therapy this week, they reminded me to SLEEP enough; it helps the healing process. It's a lot easier to sleep when you're tired, isn't it.
LOOKS GREAT!!!

Yeah, havent been sleepiong very good here, due to my last weeks issue. So i play in the garage, just the next day when school or work comes then im tired.....

Aint that the truth.............. I gotta do some work to my plow too... Gotta block the carport where the wife parks, as thats the only spot it will fit. So I'll be feeling your rush!

Hey, maybe you can finally pave that little crushed rock parking spot that your truck was forced to park in!

Yeah that parking spot, the car will have to park there now, it leaks bad from the rear pinion seal. LOL Truck better not leak ANY oil...
