Occasional rod knock?

Could be a lazy or sludgy lifter too. My blazer's got a unhappy lifter and when it gets really bad it'll sound almost like a rod knock(but at cam speed instead of crank speed) and the engine will misfire. Only last a very short while then it's fine again. Mind you that misfire is with a fully collapsed lifter, so the valve can't open enough or at all, i'm not sure which. Normally i just have a lifter tick as that same lifter's never totally quiet.

Alright, still the same - went for a ride today, when braking
and turning left, it knocked again a couple of seconds.
Don't believe it's internal, don't think it's injectors (but I'm
not completely ruling them out)
In gear, with brake applied, throttle will cause some slight
engine movement, so motor mounts are the next thing to
be checked out.
Not real concerned, now that HB is ruled out - didn't want a
2 piece crankshaft :D But hopefully I will get this chased down.
I saw a real nice 2004 D-max today, 4X4, long bed, XC.........
I really can't justify spending that kind of money, my truck
is paid for and running good, in good shape... but boy do I
want a new one!!!

Pulled all eight injectors today, going to have them pop
tested in the morning, shop will check them for free.
If any are bad (and I suspect they are) I am replacing all 8.
New Delphis are 75 bucks each. I could get cheaper online,
and it kills me to spend this much, but I only want to
do this once - and the shop is going to pop test and
balance the new ones before I leave.
Pulled the inner fender (PS) and turbo, only took about 2.5
hours to pull injectors, thought it would be worse.
That heat shield is a bitch!! Don't know how I am going to
get it back in....
Will post back after injectors are in, ran smooth before,
ought to be like butter now.

First 2 off truck pop tested bad, pressure was right but they dripped
and stream was not good - bought 8 new Stanadynes.
Pop tested while I was there, last new one squirted instead
of misted, no more on the shelf. :mad2: Tech took it apart
and put it in their cleaner, reassembled and it was good.
But I marked the box, and installed that one in the front
drivers side, just in case.
Cost, with return hose kit, was about $550 - better than the
$75 bucks apiece I was quoted. Sales guy is a member in our
local 4X4 club. :D
Took about 4 hours, taking my time, to put it back together,
so about 6 hours total. I thought it would be worse than that.
Runs good, maybe a little smoother than before, hopefully no
more knock, and maybe a little better fuel mileage too.
And while I had it apart, I pulled the upper intake and drilled
it for the pressure gauge tap, and got rid of the tee I was using.
I'm tired :smile5:

Well, been running fine all weekend, went to my Mom's house
today, (about 75 miles) started knocking and ticking just
before I got there, not too bad - left to bring her to my Aunt's
house, which was another 150 miles - got about 30 miles,
and the truck started shaking and missing badly. Turned around,
drove 30 miles back to her house, when i got there had an
extra 3 or so quarts in my crankcase - I believe one of my
brand new injectors stuck open. 75 miles from home.
Had to rent a trailer to get it home, my trailer I use for the
Jeep is not wide enough. So tomorrow, injectors come back
out, and will be doing a compression test. Oil pressure was
still good, so hopefully I didn't cook a bearing.....

400 - 425# on all except 6 (175#) & 8 (300#)
This is getting ugly :D
Heads gotta come off, best case scenario is a head gasket....
but I doubt it.
Make me an offer, I might bite.... before I pull the head off

And she still runs pretty smooth.....except for the occasional knock/noise?
