New injectors

So Paul, you're the one who had the bad ssd air filter on google searches?:D
You have had bad luck for a long time.:)
Actually, I've had good luck.
I had 'a' bad filter but the fact, and luck is, that the lid didn't get caught up in the impellers, just sealed the intake like a mason jar...then fall off when I'd work on something only to get bumped around and seal up again. It went on like that for a month. Some other poor chap chunked his turbo and had the real issues with the results and trying to get SSD to own up. In my case, I bought the truck with that thing on there and Walt still replaced the filter with an "improved" model and no hassle.
Same with injectors. Yeah, I made mistakes in purchases but was able to get things corrected before holing a piston so that's good.
New Motor. We caught the problems and corrected them before assembly so thats good too. Now its in, its running strong, and Bill is still actively engaged in dialing things in. As for the injectors in this thing now, they are Bosch HO's that Bill sent out to his prefered shop to have reset and balanced at 2400. That ran up the price a bit more but, I can get 21mpg if I drive at 65mph or 14+mpg if I want to try a few speed runs at 100+mph...and I do...trust me.

3bals, you've got the right attitude as to chalking it up to learning. Let us know how it all goes. Maybe someone else will benifit from the joint learning experiences.

Alright, I'm thinking it's time for new injectors on my Suburban since I have no idea when they were changed last, if ever. I'm at 265k miles right now and feel a little down on power and my lift pump is working well (new last year too). I already replaced filters and I get 12 psi boost with my home-made spring loaded wastegate actuator with EGT's of around 950 degrees indicated in the right exhaust manifold.

It's my wife's vehicle and although she doesn't have a job she's constantly running errands and going to OB appointments and taking the kids places. I'd like to keep this "repair" brief if possible. There's a local shop that can rebuild the injectors but I haven't talked to them yet on price or time to get them rebuilt. Since my only real upgrades that I ever plan on doing to this Suburban is a bigger exhaust and possibly a "towing" tune for the computer along with a cooling upgrade, I don't think I'll need marine grade or high output injectors. I certainly want Bosch injectors only. Who's got the best prices on new injectors or rebuilt Bosch that have been tested? Also, if I'm buying injectors from an online retailer, will they be tested within spec of each other or will I still need to get them tested locally when I get them? I don't think I have time to wait to send mine away to get them rebuilt.

I found supposedly the P/N for Bosch injectors as 0432217276. If that's the correct number for my 99 Suburban, Summit Racing has them for $40/ea. I assume I need something else to install these too?

Peninsular diesel sells brand new Bosch injectors for ~$60 a piece, not sure if they are pop-tested. Got my set of Bosch remans from Kennedy for $550 pop-tested @ 2250 I believe. Last time I looked at rockauto they had a few on there. Good prices too. Shop around. Can't go wrong with ac delco either, most likely cheaper than Bosch and for stock applications just as good IMO

As far as installation, Heath sells a pretty damn good clampless return line/washer kit. Comes with plugs for the back two and clamps for those, clamps for the main return line to IP and a turbo manifold gasket. You will also need a 30mm deep socket and be careful you don't wanna break the nipples off. I found one at auto zone that worked for me after a little grinding (wouldn't clear the valve cover, too thick) but Heath sells a specialized socket, even says when your done return it for a refund. You can change them in a day if you know what you are doing. I took the long way by taking my passenger side inner fender out and removing the entire manifold (seized studs on the turbo to exhaust manifold) but it still only took me about 2 days not really in a hurry. Quick tip if you get frustrated (you will) just stop go inside and eat a snack and chill out. You will find when you go back with a clear head it'll make things easier. Worked for me anyways.

one word of caution is even bosch nozzles can be made in India. if you can get the made in Germany ones your golden

The latest

Here's what I sent Walt:

A few weeks ago, I ordered and received a set of 8 fuel miser injectors from you. Prior to installing them, I took them to a local fuel injection repair shop to have them tested to determine the pop pressure settings. During that test we found the they popped at from 2200 psi to 2400 psi and the spray patterns differed significantly between them. Some had a fine mist pattern, while others had a stream, with one that squirted off to the side The injection specialist also took one injector apart to see which tips were in them. He found that the tips were generic stock aftermarket, making them just cheap remanufactured injectors that have the pop pressures set way too far apart with uneven spray patterns.

Now, I don't know if your supplier sent/packaged the wrong injectors or if the wrong ones were shipped to me from you, but I would like to return them for a full refund.

I will be purchasing totally new injectors or remanufactured ones that use genuine parts and are pop tested to be balanced correctly.

Here's the response I got:

They ARE NOT cheap generic reman injectors. I have these made by a Stanadyne shop that makes them to specs. They are of the highest quality available with no foreign parts used. I take great pride in that fact. And every injector is tested on a Kent-Moore Model B nozzle tester. I really don't understand what happened as we sell 20-30 sets of these per week with no complaints. How you could get 8 bad ones is beyond me. My apologies. I will follow thru and get to the bottom of this. Rest assured.

Fill out the attached claim form and follow the attached instructions. I will have Stanadyne inspect and test them and let you know what they find. If defective or the wrong parts were used, I will issue a full refund. Again my apologies.

Now I'm beginning to wonder about the set of new SSDS Marine Injectors that I have had sitting here the past five years, as to whether they are truly Marine Injectors, since I was planning on putting them in my Burb this week to replace the unknown, but probably OE with 210K miles on them injectors, since my fuel mileage is down about 2-2.5 mpg from a year ago. Everything else that I have from SSDS I've had NO issues with, Duraterm GP's, HD cooling upgrade kit, intake kit, Duramax fan upgrade kit.

If you already have them, run them. You already spent the money, the concearn is that you dont get your moneys worth right? You definately dont if you just let them sit on a shelf. Put them in then keep the ones you take out for a rebuild.

OK, am I missing something or am I just crazy. The Bosch part number as verified on a couple other forums, Rock Auto's website, and Summit Racing's website for my 1999 Suburban is 0432217276. They're $40 each from Summit Racing, $43 each from Rock Auto, and $30 each in quantities of 8 from Associated Diesel (rebuilt). Even buying from GM Parts Direct (had to look them up with the catalog so I don't know what their part number is) they have injectors at $50 each. If I order from Summit Racing, that means NEW Bosch injectors are $320. An installation kit from SS Diesel is $25 with no-clamp hoses. $345 plus shipping for new injectors and an installation kit. Why are people paying $600+ for injectors then?

Last time "I" did mine I bought nozzles only (bosch/german) for $19ish. Rebuilt them and ran with that. Never pop tested them and truck ran great. Brother did the same, but pop tested that time all were within 200psi.
My newest set (still in box) is from Barry while he was still doing them, pop tested, all parts & new return hose kit was $420ish IIRCC?
So yeah paying more than $500 is just crazy.

I had Barry do the ones for my son's '94 Burb and that was back in January. He's still doing them and he does a good job. Price was $350. Clampless return line kit was purchased separately for like $25.

PM me as I have his current e-mail.

I noticed him posting over at DP

What happened here? Was it the PYO polishing thread that chased him away? Or was it him selling injector service without paying for vendor status?

All I know is that he did good by me with the injectors. I had 2 leakers and he redid those. Truck runs great.

Unless he changed his mind he is not rebuilding anymore. I talked to him last week, said "he is out of shims and they are to expensive to buy more, so not interested anylonger."

Dang Walt never learns. I think it's freaking hilarious how he likes to stick the little made in USA stickers on everything but the majority of the stuff he sells like this is White Box Chinese garbage. Thanks for posting this up, expected lack of quality of SS Diesel Supply, I hate that sob.

Here's a pic of the difference between the old, leaking SSD "marine" Injectors and the new (well, a damn good reman) Kennedy Bosch high pop injectors. The SSD had no markings whatsoever and were black, which leads me to believe they were made from black iron, experience in the oil field has shown me that black iron is weak as hell (ala std pipe nipples will blow over maybe 3000psi) anyways call me crazy, but i will never buy black injectors again for that reason.
