Coolant leak is back, Plus oil sludge! 88GMCtruck's 1999 K2500 L65 = more problems.

Good luck David.......I'm pullin for ya.......You got me scared as hell tho!
Fingers AND toes crossed...
Well, thanks for the positive luck.

You can use a magnet on the filter media to see how much iron is in it. With the scoring you bet you will find some.

Head gaskets are tough to see the failures on. Post a close up of the suspect gasket section.

So I take it there isn't any cracks from the main bolt holes visible from the sides?
I ran a magnet close to it and it doesn't pick anything up really. It's hard to tell since it's a ll gunky. Whatever it may be in there is SUPER fine, not really visible to the naked eye. When I look at it I think it COULD be shiny metal in the oil, then I take some and smear it around it's just smooth oil. It doesn't glisten or feel gritty. Only way for sure IMO is the oil analysis which will be done with a small sample I've not messed with. All I know, is I'm glad I buy quality oil filters.

Was pulling the diff a PIA ? I have to do motor mounts soon.
IMO not really in the scheme of things. I didn't pull mine ALL the way out either, it's just sorta hanging there. The passenger side mount that bolts to the frame (the one that runs front to back) is just a we bit longer and can rest on the frame and tierod. IMO unbolting the diff from it would make it easier to pull out. You might have to remove some steering stuff as well, if you can't get the pumpkin rotated down enough to clear it.

Just out of curiousity, did you look at the main webs when you had the pan off?

Although, it might be better if you didn't.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss.....
I've looked at what I can under the motor (pan's still off too) and everything under there from what I can see looks amazing. I'm going to spend a bit more time under there with a flashlight and inspect as well. IMO i'm still under the impression that this condition hasn't been going on long, the motor is just too clean and scoring aside looks fantastic.

---------------------------------

Picking up the last of the gaskets today, and all the UPS stuff should be here so it should clank back to life sometime in the next day or two. I'm going to get the oil pump, pan and underside put back together.

Forgot to mention a few things. The starter was missing the support bracket bolt. Picking one up today, M8x1.25x18. Also, the block was cast in Jan of 99. I need to remember to grab the casting number off the back while the head is still off too.

Here we go. I'll keep everyone updated.

It's raining now. :mad2: wasn't supposed to.
Hope it lets up soon.
It's Washington, albeit the Western corner. Regardless, good luck and thanks for keeping us informed. Even if some of us feel we now have one more thing to worry about.

On Edit: Eastern Washington. Sorry, mental compass needs recalibration.

Yup. We've had a crappy spring so far, too much rain.

I'm going to despise living in Western Washington again, although I'll at least have a garage there.

Weather channel indicates rain should be about over. Back to work.
So I take it your working outside......At least it's not 9*F......
Stopped raining yesterday about 2pm. Today it's blue skies!

If i where you,i would pull up that scored bore piston an have a peek at those rings, better safe than sorry;)
Too late to do that now. It was a time issue. Honestly like I have said, if this amount of work will get me 10k miles or more, than i'm happy with it.

Here is where I left off.. Figured I should get some picts for everyone.

Just so you can see, this is the "garage" I have. It's more like a storage room currently with 6.5L parts scattered all over.

Rebuilt the turbo in my kitchen after it got late. Ready to go together, just needs clocked and the compressor housing re-installed.

I know I read on here, can't find it now...but what is the best order to put the injector lines on? I marked what pairs they were, but not the order I took them off in.

Nevermind, figured that out...now I need to figure something else out.

Driver's side of the water pump, outer-most bolt has a stud on the end of it, what bolts to that?

Remind me to invite you two and Orion Thade over for a weekend when and if I have to rebuild/replace my motor. You all do great work and I cook pretty good steaks.:agreed:

first 2 are of the drivers side last one is the pass side. pretty hard to get a good shot of things.
