Coolant leak is back, Plus oil sludge! 88GMCtruck's 1999 K2500 L65 = more problems.

FWIW and to others, taking the passenger side wheelwell out takes about 5 mins with an air ratchet and then it's much ,much easier if you did'nt have it out already from the HG job

I have seen this said many times.... but mine was a SOB to get out. Not sure if the running board mud flap interferes or what. Maybe some day, someone can do a photo tutorial on how to rotate it to get it out properly....

Cant wait for the next turbo update!!

I have trouble lining the downpipe up with either turbo, done it several times. Although its partly becuase passenger motor mount is sagging a lot.

Best of luck on the maiden voyage and your move.
Thanks! I didn't ANY trouble with the stock turbo, it lined right up perfect. this one is there but at certain RPMs i get a vibration, the pipe is in there pretty tight as is. I'll remedy that one day with 4"

Your Rig is ROCK Solid now and you should have a substantial amount of piece of mind, for this or any other long haul trips.....Enjoy it!.........You deserve it!......You've done a great job and repaired every issue methodically, without taking any shortcuts, again superb job with everything David.

FWIW, I really love the air bags and the on board air with accessories.
Thanks Louis, I'm hoping so. I'm hoping that everything works out for the best on this pig. And the airbags are doing their job as we speak (leveled the truck out after loading it and throwing the trailer on it).

I considered taking it out, however the rubber liner has been missing since I bought the truck, and I just used a few wobbles and got everything out of there. Wasn't a biggie for me.

So, After seasoning the turbo and all that, I had some errands to run. So the first drive on this thing was with my father's 16' flat deck. On a side note, his trailer isn't just any normal utility trailer; He's put more money then he should have into the paint job (he did himself), is lowered with 16" aluminum wheels, LED lights, and stainless tie-down bars. There are 3' sideboards on it now, but typically there is a gullwing toolbox (that matches) on the front of the deck. I have the trailer at the moment to move my large furniture in the near future.

So, my thoughts on the turbo?!
I put about 80 miles on the truck today towing this around (with just some light stuff on it). Turbo has an entirely different powerband than before. The low end isn't quite as strong feeling but the truck pulls much better once you spool that thing up. One thing I did notice is that my truck being a manual I'm in the boost much less while accelerating. I think that my crap 3" exhaust isn't letting the turbo breath quite as well as it could, it'll be upgraded as funds permit, as well as a tune to compliment everything. I did notice I can roll coal much easier now, which I think is a condition of this exhaust as well. But, it pulls really nice and smooth, even more so with a load behind it.

So, after all this driving around town and crap, I went and checked through everything. Oil is still nice, clear/golden colored; like it just came out of the container. Pressure hot at idle is about 25 PSI, driving about 40 PSI, give or take a few... So, everything seems to be working well and ready to rock, hopefully for many more thousand miles.

Seeing as everything checked out, and I move into my new place Wednesday this week, I loaded her up, and hooked up the trailer. Checked all 10 tires out, lights, brakes, and fluids. Helper bags are doing their job keeping the truck level. Here is the view of how things are loaded up.

So, tomorrow morning comes a 300 mile trek with the truck & trailer, so wish me luck on a safe and successful drive. :D

Oh that is right.... you wanted to hear what it sounds like! The exhaust. Man, the ATT changed it entirely. No more turbo whistle, just a slight turbine sound at idle and even more big block chevy rumble. When you let into it though, it sounds like the gates of hell have opened up. I like it :D

Now, back to your regular programmed thread: http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?27781-88GMCtruck-s-99-6.5L-Towpig-slow-build./page19

Sweet! I have the steeringhwheel sitting out on the counter, it'll stay out so we can get it in your hands on your way through. Glad it's going to another TTS member, they are hard to find in good shape.

Youre absolutely right, that stock exhaust wont let the ATT spool enough, I and THMark had that same experience. It will perform way better when you open it up. It really wont work with a cat, so I imagine you dont have one, because I could lay smokescreens for miles and could only get 5psi boost max when I had one. Ripped it off right quick. You will feel way better about that truck after the 4" exhaust.

The exhaust isn't stock, but it's stock sized 3" OD non-mandrel bent POS, no cat or muffler (99 didn't even come with a cat, just a soot trap which is also long gone). Yeah, I can tell I'm not building boost like it used to, and I was expecting it may not anyway. Driving unloaded feels less powerful, but it does feel better towing a load for sure. 4" and a tune will be on the truck in due time...

Honestly I needed to get a turbo on it and this was the best option at the time. Even if it's not living to it's potential right now, it'll still pull the trailer just fine. Just have to keep my eye on the passenger mirror and stay off the black cloud.

My 1995 w/ATT had a 3" Banks on it. Smokes a lot less with the 4" I put on it although I do have a tune in it.

Check the emissions sticker to see if it says "Catalyst" or not so you will know for sure what you took off...

Yeah, I had the Banks 3" stinger exhaust and I think Terry had 3" with straight through muffler. I can tell you even after ripping out the soot trap cat, just upping to 4" made a great difference. So you can be assured after a little more turbo break in and future mods will make that truck even more of a pleasure to own.
