Coolant leak is back, Plus oil sludge! 88GMCtruck's 1999 K2500 L65 = more problems.

Well, here is the scoop.

As of now, I know the turbo is toast. I'm thinking that was due to the runaway PMD. It doesn't have any in/out play but has quite a bit of side to side play. The seals seam fine, and I verified it was still getting oil by cranking with the inlet line disconnected.

The passenger head is off. The headgasket looked mint. :wtf: The head also looks great so far. The ONLY thing thus far that bothers me is the #8 cylinder. No, there are no cracks, but there is scoring marks on the forward side of the cylinder. The rest of them look fine, and in all 4 you can still see crosshatching.

In all honesty, the truck was running fine prior to this, so we'll see how the driver's head looks.

Maybe not,the turbo might need new brgs and seals but as long as the vanes are not scraping the housing the turbo is OK

It's not touching YET, but it's VERY close.

Got the other head off. Gasket was just fine like the other side. No apparent cracks, cylinder bores look good and have cross hatching as well.

Is it possible that the chunky stuff is soot/exhaust getting by the turbo and into the oil?

Pictures uploading.

:willynilly: :willynilly: :willynilly: Holy mother of **** (pick a diety/being on a summit/mtn/place on high).

In 5 hours we two n00bs got both heads pulled off, and everything else to get to that point. Well, I had fun. I think it is a great learning experience, granted the timing is awful for both of us, but I'm still enjoying it.

Note on the turbo, there is NO play in it in/out, only side to side and it can be held over far enough for the vanes to contact the housing. You can give it a spin and it spins nice and smoothly. Also I disconnected the turbo oil supply line, unplugged the PMD and David cranked it over, oil came out the line. I see David mentioned that already but I just wanted to add my perspective.

Alright.

CDR gunk.

Haven't been able to see anything that looks like a crack, but will be looking again tomorrow in daylight. Tomorrow we will also pulling the waterpump and anything else related to coolant.

Either way, the truck will be going back together with the block that is in it. I'm basically hoping that wherever the coolant is going, will be solved by new gaskets and studs.

nice work boots :D

I'd sure hate to see you give up on this truck. When I bought my '00 Impala the first few months I was really starting to wonder if I got a lemon. Several issues were popping up. Basically boiled down to neglect from previous owner. Fixed them all, 5 years later....over 200,000 miles and still going.

Your HG's don't look blown from the pics... Not that you wanna hear this but I think AK is on to something. Look at #8 reeeeal close.

Had a 6.2 there awhile back with a #5 that looked REAL close to your #8. Look for something like this photo.

After a hone, note the vertical scars still and the crack middle upper right.

Yeah, I'm not entirely giving up on it but at the same time.... yeah.

Oh, and IIRC you commented on my footwear when I was rebuilding the trailer last year. :p

Well, that would totally suck if it is indeed cracked. I'm going back out there now to take a look and do some cleaning, etc.
