Blowing coolant out the overflow tank. Head gasket or block??

Well its not in the crossover. I think it fell down around the motor mount somewhere. My buddy is coming with a magnet. Hopefully we can find it. I already have another on order just in case.

I warned you about the great abyss....see my earlier posts in this thread....LOL!

He found it. Magnets are great.:smile5:

I am starting to feel like I am finally making some progress.

heads are on & torqued
pushrods & rocker arms are in & torqued
valve covers are on & torqued
injector lines are on
coolant crossover on & torqued
a/c bracket on & a/c on bracket
injectors & glow plugs in & torqued
drivers exahust manifold on & torqued
donut gaskets in back of heads on & torqued
Alot of wiring plugs plugged back in

Once I get the passenger exahust manifold on can I roll her over? Or do I have to put more stuff back on? I want to make sure the injection lines aren't going to leak where they go on the IP before I put on the lower intake. I already have the filter primed.

This is a much bigger project then I expected. Someone said they have done this in a day. My hat is off to you. I think the best I could ever hope to do is three days.

I started mine up and ran it without the intake manifold for the very reason you mention -- to check for fuel leaks. Just be absolutely, positively certain there is nothing (such as a shop rag) that will get sucked into the ports. Once you check and are about ready to crank 'er over, get out and check again. I didn't suck anything in mine in the initial go-round, nor the next time, but the third time I re-gooped the passenger valve cover, I started 'er up, she ran for a few seconds, then chugged to a halt. I had pretty much buttoned everything up except for the air filter. I'd sucked a rag into the front of the turbo. I was lucky. Others have destroyed their engine.

Oh -- I'm about certain you need to bolt up the turbo so you can hook up the oil supply and return lines. I didn't dare start mine until I'd done so. I suppose one could plug the supply line with the proper fitting.

It is a huge job. Congrats on getting to the end of it.

It uses gaskets (donuts)

Well the only parts store that is open on a sunday here doesn't carry them. Can I just something out of a tube or do I have to have the correct gasket? Whats the chances I even need them & can just bolt it back together as is?

I bought a top end gasket kit & there are a couple of gaskets that I have no idea what they are for. Would the exhaust gasket I need come in a kit like that? There is one gasket that looks like it would fit.

The donuts are round with a metal insert. If you have them they will be easy to recognize. Sometimes you can re-use the old ones if they are in good shape. You really need them as there is no other way to fit the x pipe.

I'm going to get one tommorow. Might as well do it right while it is easy to get at.

Made more progress today. All I have left to do is:

passenger exahust manifold to head & crossover
plug in glow plug wires & bolt on the protectors for them
install turbo
cdr
inner fender
second battery( probably will have to charge them a bit)
coolant bottle
air box
change oil ( have it draining now. Probably got some coolant in it so I going to let it drain overnight)
fill coolant.

Little by little, day by day

Well with the exception of the upper fan shroud & a few inner fender bolts she is all back together. Woot, Woot,Woot:D:D:D Fresh oil & filter & new coolant.

Tried to star her & she rolled over pretty good for about 10 seconds then slowly died to nothing.:rolleyes5: Either my batteries don't have enough charge & or I am fighting a dry start or something is seriously wrong. I put my charger on the drivers side & it looks like it has a pretty good charge but the passenger side is pretty weak. Going to charge both of them. I'm not too suprised that the batteries are weak as they have been sitting for almost 3 weeks now & they are at least 3 years old. I think I am fighting a dry start as well. She doesn't sound the same as she did when I roll her over. It's a much more high pitched sound then before. Or is it because there is no fuel at the injectros yet? I am assuming a dry start would make the engine harder to roll over. My mechanic buddy told me to pour some fresh oil over the rocker arms & push rods before I put the valve covers back on which I did & fill the oil filter before I put that on. I tried filling the filter but could only keep a very small amount in it by the time I got it up into place & spun it on. What a mess that made.:mad2:

Just wondering if others have had a similar situation as this when trying to get the truck going.

Crack an injector line to see if you are getting fuel. Are you sure the FSD is plugged in tight? When I did my gaskets, it was running within a short period of time. Good luck--

With my new motor it took cracking a line at the injector and cranking until fuel appeared. Had to repeat 3 times before it fired off. Ran rough for a little while until the remainder bled out.

Do you have to crack all lines or just a few? I don't think I am going to have any sucess until I get a good charge on the batteries I have or get new ones.

It can take several cranking sessions to get the engine back fired up.....make sure batteries are charged and fuel is getting to the IP....

Have you bled the filter manager?

If so, do what I said in the post above your last one. It took me bleeding 3 lines to get it to fire. Yours may take more or fewer.

After reading all the way thru this my 2cents when you unbolt the heads you should just crack the headbolts on the first go round and not take any all the way out until they are loose. Been told you can warp the heads by taking them all the way out before you have relieved the pressure.

Yes I have bled the filter manager. Guess I will have to get cracking.

Just be carefull when you do this, I have had injectors crack loose in stead of the line. Although your's are new it shouldn't be a problem.

Well I cracked the closest one to the front drivers side(easiest to get at) & there is fuel coming out. Problem is I can't get her to roll over enough. Either my batteries are toast or I have something wrong. My buddy lent me a battery & I put that in the drivers side & am boosting the passenger side with my car but I still only get about 10 seconds of cranking & then she's spent. Is it possible that I have something wired up wrong somehow? I am 99% sure I put all the electrical back the way it was. I put the neg wires to the batteries back on the same ground bolts on the lower intake? If these batteries are completely toast though I guess they wouldn't hold a charge worth crap anyway. I think I am going to take them to a local shop & have them tested. I just don't want to buy new batteries until I see her running. Might have to though.

Anyone have any suggestions on something I may have put back wrong that would cause this?

She does seem to sound a bit more like it used too. Must be getting some oil moved around.

Check all fuses....gotta have good strong batteries to get it fired up....boost with another vehicle?
