Whose Fan clutch (aftermarket) kicks on earliest?

There should be absolutely no question about that engaging or not. When it engages you can't miss it or not hear it. I don't care what fan is on there. You will hear it roar when its engaged.

Had a Kennedy, replaced it because it never kicked out once engaged, replaced with a Heath 4 bolt/plastic fan(no longer offered) went with my Balance flow and OEM pump re-orificed to work with balance flow, (also no longer offered) which will be retired when I install the new engine that has new Heath severe duty pump & spin on plastic fan/clutch.

Burb has had from last summer Heath pump spin on plastic fan/clutch, other day at 111 mph, 13psig boost, 98F ambient, 3222 rpm, IAT 257, water temp of 208 I'm very pleased with this setup, add in WMI to the ATT and I think you'd never get close to an overheating situation may go to single stat with this one depending how the single stat the new engine has works out for me.

Obviously not. When I was younger I took one of those speed reading courses. It teaches you to skip words when you are reading so you can read faster. I think it was a curse. Either that or I'm just getting senile.

Did you ever back off your turbo just for test purposes? Also you can put a pressure guage on your exhaust high back pressure will translate to higher IAT

I don't think I have exhaust issues although I guess anything is possible. Running flowmaster crossover and DP, Gutted cat and custom 4inch mandrel bent ex which was CUT into the back of the empty kitty. The GM4 could be causing backpressure pre exhaust though.

Go with the Kennedy. IMHO its the best one going for now. Good things normally cost a bit more.

Special Calibration Fan Clutch

Direct bolt on unit fits all 6.5 with serpentine (single) belt drive and 4 stud mounting configuration. Requires blade change on all pre 1997 vehicles.

"It has come to my attention that there are other suppliers representing OE fan clutches as 180° or similar reduced spec claims. Just because someone says it calibrated differently does not mean that it is. Certain "Severe Duty" units offered are merely OE production units. The OE clutch, as well as mine are built by Borg Warner, and are physically identical. The difference is in the calibration. This is not a modification, rather a variance in the calibration when built. The Kennedy Diesel fan clutch is a unique part number, that is built in special batch runs. There is a lot of expense involved with a special part number, and I am required to pay in advance for parts that I will not see for 6-8 weeks, and purchase minimum quantities. This is a serious investment that I will continue to make so long as demand continues, but BEWARE imposters!" - JK

Right off Kennedys site.

well, really Heath or Kennedy Like I said before is really a matter of which water pump you have. Heath only fits center hub and Kennedy only fits 4 nut style so not much to think about actually.

Manually tinkering with the clutch seems like a sure way for me to be clutchless. I think i'll go Kennedy, since i Have the 4 bolt :) I'll be sure to put the order in well before I'm ready to test and give the plow some tlc...

Landuygt
That's BS from JK. Heath has his custom built by Hayden. You can buy a HAyden severe duty but it is not the same calibration as Factory. I know I own both. I have a Heath Severe Duty on one truck and a Hayden Severe Duty on another.
Missy's got em all beat with her setup. Somebodys gotta mass produce that setup. There is no substitute for direct lock up and being able to to that with a flip of a switch ? That blows em all away.
walt makes alot of claims too. That's probably who he is referring to.

You have to. The Heath won't fit. You can order a Hayden severe Suty clutch for your style though. It's only 149$. I'll let you know how they work. I just put one on my 2000. If it's hot tommorow I may have to go for a tow but I think both these trucks might be going bye bye. I saw a nice Dodge with a cummins. The truck is green...that is an omen.

Not sure what you're talking about, boys, but my heath clutch is on a 4-bolt water pump... works like a charm. Kennedy's clutch kicks in earliest, but it also stays on longest and eats power and fuel. TD had both.

If you do, put dieseltowingresource.com under the hood a bunch of times before you trade the ol' gals in :(

Jim,
I think you have an older version. To my knowledge Heath no longer carries the 4 bolt setup. I am sure he told me that unless I am getting senile. He only sells the center hub now as it fits his HO water pump.
