Whose Fan clutch (aftermarket) kicks on earliest?

I actually called Horton today and asked just that. for them to even consider desgning one it would have to be fo a large order but it can be done. If one of the vendors here wanted to take a little chance I would think this would be a must have mod. Sadly I ordered the severe duty clutch from Hayden and now my friggin tranny blew. I have the part #s from Hayen for the severe duty clutch. It has 90% lockup. It is made in both 4 bolt and spin on hub. Matt I think it's the way to go for you. 150$ plus shipping(20$) at my Napa.
 
I believe you need Hayden part # 2831 for the 6.5TD rev rot 4 bolt severe duty. It will use your stock fan blade. Doulbe check that # though. I wrote it down at work. NAPA can cross it.
 
2831 is for the 6 blade fan and 4 bolt water pump flange.

2839 is for the 9 blade steel fan and D-MAX fan with 4 bolt water pump flange.

2840 is for the 9 blade steel and D-MAX with screw on pump.
 
2850 is for the P-series. The only difference is the "mounting height" (the distance from blade mount to end of nut for the pump). It will set the blade back toward the engine about 7/16 of an inch.
 
sure does.... The OEM Delco from stealer replacement clutch engages around 210, but I have to almost stop to have it engange, which looses momentum.

If clutch is in good shape, you shouldn't have to slow down
for it to engage.

I haven't seen a plow in person (not much call for them in Baton Rouge)
how do they attach? Could you fab up some attachment that would
let you tilt the blade bottom edge up when not plowing?
Or top edge down?
Wouldn't solve the plowing problem, but would allow airflow when not plowing.

Picture weighing 1000, maybe lbs about 3-4 FEET in front of your front tires, and see how high your truck is sitting:) Problem is there is not enough hieght to do much of anything, ... Perhaps I should have never welded up the huge rot-hole in the center of it when I got it!

At least the 'guys' who drove this fleet truck before had adequate cooling :)

Not many options with the plow but build some sort of 'air fin/ scoop' thing that sticks above the the plow and angles air down may work.. Tried with plywood and straps one night...

Thing is, you look absolutely rediculous, when all thats roaming the streets are Plows, Cops, Taxi's....

And it didn't work, and my plywood snapped the second I lowered my plow :)
 
Remove the RTV glob from the slot - pull the angled section of the bi-metal strip outta the slot, gently straighten the angle, bending to conform to the rest of the coil, leaving a very small lip that will fit in the slot - re-RTV the stip (strip tip) in the slot, let cure, and voila!!!!!! - yer clutch now engages at lower temps.............

Or maybe just put some eyes on the fan to clutch bolt and the fan to water pump bolt, and when you want direct drive clip a steel cable between them.

An idea on that note too is good buddy. I'll have to look at it up close. Its so rare for my case somethign like this may work.
 
I racked my brains a lot.
The issue is that the Horton that will work with this rotation only comes with the threaded hub.

The threads are different than the GM threaded hub.

Possibly could make a custom adapter that would bolt on and also allow the clutch to spin onto it.

Trying to keep the assembly simple without adding extra length to it was the issue.

Horton makes other clutches with 4 bolt flanges but they are designed for the opposite rotation.

I spoke with Horton directly and the answer is the same. Not available in the proper rotation for the application.

Horton told me they could design one but it would have to be"worth it" If a vendor like Heath approached them I'll bet we could get it going. I think everyone on this site would buy one. I know I would.
 
Horton used to make a unit that had the proper rotation as well as the correct flange.

The application was not profitable so the ditched it..

For sure would pay good money for that ability to kick the fan on BEFORE you know you need it.... Good money. Get off the highway, kick it on on the offramp, help ya slow down and cool off those hot highway temps.... Ideal. Perfect. Market it with a Switched 210 in a CTS head spot, with a overide toggle IN-Cab.

Wasn't advertised improperly, was nobody could afford it - Horton's ain't cheap..............
