What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

I personally would use some anti-seize on the threads, both the injectors and GP's. make sure you were able to get all the copper washers out of the heads on the old engine if reusing them.
Okay. I’ll use some of that new nickel anti seize I just got in the mail the other day.
GPs I used the old fashioned copper base anti seize on those. Already torqued and ready for fire. 😹
Nope, brand new heads, and, I had to remove the old washers from the injectors when I removed them from the old engine. All eight present and accounted for. 😹😹😹

Just curious, what did you go with for the block heater?
It has a block heater pre installed.
No chord but the heater is there.
Got an original AC Delco coolant pump from Rock Auto. Damn thing is made in china.
For this new engine I also got the new coolant pump backing plate from quad Star.
The bolt holes between the pump and the plate were not a perfect match. Had to get out the die grinder and make some holes in the plate slightly oblonged.
In my collection of never tried components I also have one of those flow master coolant pumps. I matched the plate up to that and it was a perfect fit.
I almost just installed that flow master pump but went with that chinesium junkart pump any way.

Now would be the time to do it.

I only had one block heater ever go bad.

But the way things are made these days, it might not hurt to have a spare installed.

If this one ever goes bad you'd already have one installed. Kind of like having a spare PMD and extension cables run to the intake.

One never knows what their future abilities might be at any age.
Now you can say it's not that big of a job to replace. You never know what tomorrow brings

Kind of My way of thinking too.
Do it now while everything is dry.
Always so messy to try changing one after the systems is filled with coolant.
Although, there is an accessible drain plug on this side. 😹😹😹

Man- I would send the Chinese water pump back for one at a brick & mortar authorized Delco retailer store like napa. That sure sounds like a problem of a CKO to me.

Not critical but I didn’t paint my gep heads where all the bare metal is and they looked horrible not much later. I suggest some high heat paint on the ends and around the intake manifold area. It doesn’t really hurt anything but here it just looks bad with surface rust. Where you are it might leave rust streaks running down the block.

Many of the top brands have their parts made in China where they work for a bowl of rice with a gun to their back. As long as the brand has their QA over the process, you get good parts. It’s the knock-offs from the same plant that will get you.

Most everything is now made in China or Mexico.

Tell that to my ruined optimizer piston and precup.

Forget that. Spending a couple dollars on day one is worth the down time and a lot more spent later.

Now here I am looking for a new set of heads to replace optimizer heads with 70,000 miles on them also all from a cko part.

I maybe saved $15 on a set of plugs from rock auto.
New pistons
New heads
Everything involved in that like gaskets, head bolts, etc would be the basics if ai did not choose to do all the other upgrades while it is apart this time.

Sometimes people get away with murder and sometimes a minor issue costs you a brand new engine.

I stand behind my statement to Marty that the extra time now and the extra couple hundred dollars if it gets tht crazy high because they won’t take back the pump because of time- WORTH IT.

He bought an AC Delco water pump. What other options are out there. I’ve used a Bosch water pump. It lasted 70K miles. Again, what other options are out there? You can’t just come in and piss all over it, while providing no options.

Not trying to piss all over it.
I repeatedly say for years- only buy the AC Delco at a brick and mortar store that is an Authorized dealer for them. I said that again this morning.
By the fact that the hole didn’t line up- I believe that is strong evidence of being a knock off part. Even if authentic, it is mis-manufactured.

I will also say - if it was something non critical, so what. Map/maf sensor; alternator; starter; none of that can be the quick destruction of a new engine.
Anything that can cost the engine is a gamble to ruin the $8,000 investment

With that I’ll agree. My investigation with AC Delco confirmed they will not support RockAuto purchases, but they will support Amazon purchases through their official store. I thought you were criticizing all Chinese made AC Delco, but it appears you wrote that while thinking RockAuto.

The coolant pump was to the PN that I had started a thread about.
Now I’m in doubts that I will do any more business with RA after this.
I had even thought about pulling the pump from the old engine and stuffing it onto there. Even that flow max crossed my mind.
And to make matters more the worse, I can not find the water pump bolts. Tore the shop apart, over, under around and through the truck, the garage too. but the engine was dismantled right here in the garage.
I thought I was so careful about using pans and baskets to house all the components. Guess not careful enough.
Shazit onnit, calling it a day/night.

Now who has the best price on on a PowerMaster starter for these 6.5 pigs?
Might not be the best price, but I did call powermaster back when I got mine and they told me to get it from one of their authorized dealers. They named Summit Racing as one of them they'll honor warranty from. So that's where I went. I was going to get from Amazon since they has the best price but they told me they would not honor from them.

Leroy and Quadstar also has them in stock. QStar is a couple or five bucks less than Leroy.
Dont know how PMs warranty is through those two though.
