What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Well I made some progress in my little workshop corner of the garage! Man I have to say keeping crap 💩 I think I’m gonna use some day tends to creep up into a huge junk pile lol. The before photo I had already started cleaning but before it began I only had a small narrow path to get in there! The floor couldn’t be seen lol

Looks quite normal to Me, even if the floor was still covered with sh, uhhh, stuff. 😹😹😹
 
I did do some to that 1988 Buick. Had a idler pulley in place of the AC compressor. It snapped. 💩
Got on RA and gotta new clutch/idler for the AC compressor. It arrived.
Dug out the compressor with the seized guts. Shaft would not turn. I had already knocked off the old clutch. Then got to looking it over, the snap ring groove had busted off. 😖🤷‍♂️
Okay, found a washer that was slightly larger than the inner bearing race of the clutch. The center hole was quit a bit larger than the shaft. Dug through the can of shims, sleeves and odds n ends. Got a sleeve from a shock absorber, it is split, used a taper punch and enlarged it to fit over the shaft, perfect fit in tjat washer. Ground it down so it is just slightly below the too of the washer. Another heavy duty washer that just fot the shaft. Nutted it all down. Perfect, and, this clutch did not have the electro magnet, that made it even better. Installed it back onto the engine, installed the new belt tensioner, hooked the belt to it. Ooooh that belt runs smooth and quiet now. 😹😹😹
 
Took an afternoon trip to the local wrench a part junk yard today. Scored a complete air box assembly (I already started poking at it pulled heater core). An uncracked dash bezel and couple of passenger side vents. Also found what I think is a new style design ac condenser in good shape!

Took an afternoon trip to the local wrench a part junk yard today. Scored a complete air box assembly (I already started poking at it pulled heater core). An uncracked dash bezel and couple of passenger side vents. Also found what I think is a new style design ac condenser in good shape!

While I have tons of vehicles to choose from in SoCal, I NEVER see an undamaged dash. They are either gone, or destroyed.
 
I hear ya on that! while I was out there I ran across a complete dash the color I want, but didn't have the time to pull it. all the others I looked at were destroyed. the unit I pulled the air box from, someone had already done me the luxury of pulling the dash and the engine making it easy to get to all the bolts holding the air box in!
 
I did replace upper ball joints and upper A arm and sway bar bushings a couple weeks ago on the 95 in the pic. I also replaced the upper ball joints on the 98 in my Avatar the next day.
 
The last trip to Billings, temperature gauge was fluctuating from maybe 175 or so lows to about 195 high.
I still had the permanently locked fan clutch installed.
Today, removed the fan clutch and swapped the fan on to the faulty Kennedy Diesel fan clutch.
Took the truck for a drive up and over the Yellowstone hill.
Gauge climbed to what I believe is about 185 and maintained that temp steady.
I do not think that would be good for the cylinders or headgaskets to be fluctuating so frequently like that.
Last Friday was the first roadtrip I have done with the truck since the cold temps had set in. During the warmer temps the temp maintained a pretty steady 195 except when it was real hot it would climb to about 200, real hot was like 110 air temp.
Todays run.

We spent the 4th of July in Fishtail Montana, a town of 50 people that swelled to several thousand for the weekend. Never seen so many hillbilly's like me in one place. :)

I went over that pass in my gutless F150 with a 300 straight 6 in it. I’m sure you had much more fun doing it than I did. Sure was pretty though.

Yellowstone bridge is kitty corner from My house about a block and a half or two blocks, maybe a 1/4 of a mile. The bridge slopes uphill until it gets across the river, then, it turns upwards, I mean steep upwards. I dont know what the percent of grade is but its a pretty good slope.
I have been over that Bear Toot pass at Red Lodge. Been towards the top looking down at the clouds and lightening flying from the clouds downwards toward the ground, from the ground upwards too I guess according to some discoveries since the dark ages.
Youngest son and I headed to Cody to go through the museum. Riding the 1976 Harley Electra Glide. Missed the turn to go over to Belfry then on to Cody. Before We got to Red Lodge we was riding through a nasty snow storm. July 18 1992. A man where we parked the bike to get warmed up in the Bull and Bear Saloon asked if We was going to go over the top of the BT pass. Told him probably now we would. He said dont, they got three foot of snow up there. OK, we took another route over to Belfry from Red Lodge, through sloppy construction, we were drenched in muddy water before we got to Belfry. 😹😹😹😹
One of those very memorable excursions for sure. 😹😹😹
 
My first ex wife. Her uncle had a old trailer shack along the Still Water River near the community of Beehive. It was not real far over to Fishtail from that two acres of property. Used to go over and set in the Fishtail bar and get a nice buzz going then the BIL would drive back because about two was his limit. 😹😹😹

We rode through a down pour of rain into Red Lodge, never been so wet, we stripped down in the laundry mat and dried our clothes. Probably the first time we got a motel, we were half froze

We would have gone through the pass after the 4th of July
