What did you do with your GMT400 today...or yesterday....

Need to do more test driving and extend the distance. Great time to be doing that with diesel over $6.00/gallon. Hopefully we’re done, but this is running on Marty’s IP so we’ll have to swap ours back in. Then maybe we can get onto “nice to have” projects like installing the forged lower control arms.

Looks like the normal amount of smoke on startup.
There is no hurry on returning that pump. Hang into it until You know the issues have been ironed out on Your suburban.

I have one weekend left down in SoCal, then back to Montana until the spring run off which typically starts in May. We should have enough test driving on it by then to know for sure and swap the IP. I will be down there through 6/11 and then fly back up to MT on 6/12 where I host by bass fishing friend for a week of fishing the salmon fly hatch. My wife will have already driven up to MT by then, hopefully with the IP. This IP will have made more round trips from Miles City to SoCal in a shipping box than by driving.

Just make sure that Your wehicle will run with the other IP installed before sending that one back. Wont be too many postal charges and a new reman could be bought. 😵‍💫😹😹😹😹

Oh yeah.
After doing that 300 mile round trip to Billings and back, I decided to install the new Diamond Eye muffler onto the truck.
Took the truck over to the body/muffler shop and had Jack do the work.
I sat and waited, it was not a 1/2 an hour and $28.00. I could not have crawled around under the truck and did the work myself for any less. Money well spent and I did not feel like I’d been hit by a freight train when it was all done.
I drove the truck home and it does sound much quieter, did not take it for the customary test run over the Yellowstone hill to do the real sound test on it, price of fuel what it is. 😵‍💫😹😹😹😹

I have the Diamond Eye muffler on mine and have had thoughts of wanting to make it a smig quieter for the sound going into the cab.
it also has a 6" round tip on it behind the rear tire too. that made the sound much deeper, not sure if that causes the drone in the cab or if it's the muffler. It's not bad on short drives, but for a long trip it does get annoying!

Idk 🤷‍♂️ if they make a 4" muffler that is quieter but not to restrict any flow. I have looked down in the muffler and it seems it's just a 4" open perforated pipe with a larger outer casing over it. I have oftin wondered 🤔 , as long as the muffler is, if the center could be blocked with something forcing the exhaust through the perforations in the pipe might make it quieter and not hurt flow.

I like some of the newer diesels sound where all you hear is air coming out of the tail pipe with the sing of the turbo :)

I installed an FTE Resonator/Muffler on my Tahoe when I installed the 4" Diamond Eye exhaust. I did not install a muffler at that time. I didn't have any drone, but the exhaust sound was a little loud, which works differently in an SUV than a pickup since it's just a big open box inside, with not as much separating the driver from the exhaust outlet. I installed a Dynomax or Walker muffler and that took the little bit of sound level out that I needed to be happy. I now have that same exhaust mounted on my dually, but WITHOUT the muffler and I have zero drone and a satisfactory exhaust noise inside. I have seen where these auger-style resonators/mufflers become a restriction at higher power levels, but I made 465/879 with truck on the Diesel Doctor dyno last fall, so I don't think it's restricting much at this power level. I recommend installing it. They say to install it as far forward as you can and that's what I did - I have mine right behind the downpipe to exhaust connection.

Thanks @n8in8or just looked at the link and it does look good! not too expensive of a add on too! I may just have to order one after I get her back from the shop getting the 3.73's installed :)

I dropped her off at a local mud truck race shop where they build lots of rigs for mud races. a guy I have known for several years does some good work and knows these trucks. having him go through the rear axle checking all the bearings and installing the ring and pinion I bought from @jrsavoie. hoping to have her back this afternoon. should help lower my rpm on the freeway and a little on fuel mileage :)

Are you going from 4.10 to 3.73?

since I never tow anything other than a garden trailer on occasion and got her for the intentions of traveling with the family since the cab is plenty big enough for all of us. even with the 265-75 tires my rpms are wrapped up there on the freeway at 70 there up around 2500+ calculators online show I should only be getting 2200 or so. I know my TCC is weak but when I have checked the slip using the scanner it seems ok. using the brake pedal to disengage it raises the rpm by about 200. I know something is wonky but havn't put my finger on it, shifts fine and don't feel any slip.

Just got back from the shooting range with my son Colby. We went in the Suburban and no issues. He said he's been doing regular errands and it looks like he's gone through 1/4 tank and no more stalls. Fingers crossed on this.

P.S. I was shooting my Sig Sauer P365XL 9mm that I bought last Fall. First time with that gun. Very nice and fun to shoot.

Friend Bob, lives across the bridge and about 1/2 way up the hill and to the right about a half a mile or so.
He called and said his 1989 Dodge would not start. Asked if I could figure it out for Him.
Took the drive around town to warm the engine then headed across the bridge. While on the bridge kicked it down to a passing gear, the pipe talked some, about like it used to when just cruising highway speeds, it got fairly quiet after I let out of the throttle. A lot quieter than it ever had.
Yeah, I think I will like this muffler.
As stated, it is just 4” straight through with perforations so it must reroute a fair proportion of the exhaust to between the walls.
I also have the 6” tip and it was adjusted for maximum sound volume and tone and I think if I move it farther up the exhaust pipe it will quiet the sound even more.

If it has clutches it's not a locker
I would assume a posi? I just called it a locker thinking that it's suppose to lock in both wheels rather than do the one wheel wonder thing lol he did say something about things in there can wear out and cause issues. I know my truck shows to have had one in there from factory. I sent one with the truck I had in a milk crate for him to use if it was good and if what I have in the axle has issues.
