Today I did something I should have done years ago: I mounted a headlamp to my welding hood. I had a big LED work light shining where I was working, but it never failed that I would be in front of it when it came time for me to start welding, especially in tight spaces. This makes it so much easier to see your work before you strike an arc, even with an auto-darkening hood. I highly recommend this mod to anyone that welds. I simply got a battery powered headlamp, removed the head gear and then taped it to the helmet with double-stick tape. Voila!
Here are a couple pics from inside my hood. Of course the way it looks with a camera doesn’t represent how it looks with my eyes, but still you can see quite a difference.
