Time for new engine

Here's mine, 2 heaters,2 draincocks

Hey bison, -long time no talkie.

I see your exhaust manifold was made by the dayshift crew, -that's all that matters man, -you've got it made, no worries! ):h

As always, your setups are very pracitcal, I am one who can appreciate that.

nice looking setup. but get rid of that fram man. :nono: we cut a bunch open and fram had the cheapest guts of any.

packratt, hoping the rest of the install goes easy.

I agree on the 'regular' Fram. However, try cutting open a Fram HP4, which is perfect for our trucks. It's what I use. Awesome filtration, robust construction, reasonable pricing (about $8 at O'Reillys/Shucks) compared to premium brands like Mobil 1 and K&N, which run about $12.

-Rob :)

You'll be happy to know Murphy is still gainfully employed.

Spent 3 hours tonight and only got the starter in. Block heater didn't want to turn so I had to modify the bracket. Had to pull it about 4-5 times trimming a little more each time. Got bracket fixed and managed to squeeze my hands in and get the wires hooked up.

Ended up having to pull the exhaust manifold because I couldn't get the starter heat shield in place. If I'd known I was going to end up doing that I'd have started there and saved a hour or two.

Fuel system hooked up. Main harness hooked up.

Just goes to show what I know. ):h

Never even knew there was a step up for the Fram. And $8? I know there is exchange and all, but I am paying like $15 for a lower line filter. :mad2:

packratt, at least you are making headway. i did the same thing, but didn't remove everything. i got the shield in after about an hour of shifting it around and lubricating it with nice shiny red stuff from my fingers. :rolleyes5:

I fixed that as well.I screwed a small stud in,to replace the bolt, that'll hold the starter shield in place,So one dont has to fish for the hole with the shield lip hiding it.

Well, you could be right i guess, I never thought much about it, I have been using the fram for many yrs, never had a prob yet.

My issue was I couldn't get the shield to squeeze between the starter and manifold. It would also have helped if I had remembered which side was to the manifold.

After 10 minutes of trying to get it in I said heck with it. pulled the manifold, put the mounting bracket on the correct bellhousing stud, and reassembled.

Hey Rich, how are ye, thanks for the compliment!

my exhaust manifold , i cant vouch for dayshift crew, as it was rusted bad ,like every other one i've seen.
I just cleaned them with muriatic acid, a wire brush and water.
then spray painted them with high temp stove black(for wood stove's). Seems to hold up well.Looks still like new after 1000 km

Things aren't going too bad in mechanical-land. Personal-land is a little different story, but that's not for the forum.

My 19:1 engine runs like a scalded cat, -no issues to speak of, -all is well. I have over 10,000 miles on it so far, -not a single problem to speak of with the DB2 IP, -flawless operation, -one wire, I love it.

How is your splayed-main project on that undrilled block going?

Hey rich hows it goin!!!! I still havent started my engine yet, my dad is taking longer than expected. I will prolly start it within the next month...

Got the oil cooler hooked back up. Even go to pay my father back for some of the #2 fuel oil baths he's caused me. Flushed then took the air gun to blow the residue out and as soon as I touched the lever it blew diesel out like after going to the all you can eat burrito night at the Taco Hell.

Then Murphy struck. I'd bought 10' of 3/4 heater hose to make the splice between OEM heater line and quick connect replacement nipple as well as to replace other nonmolded lines. Turns out I needed 5/8".

Had been having stretch issues with the serpentine belt so I bought one 1/2" shorter. Absolutely no way to get that one on.

Has anyone had issues with the fan in Heath's Extra Heavy Duty Cooling System Upgrade Kit hitting the top of the radiator shroud? There is a finger's width between the end of the blade and the bottom shroud. Hits at the top and top shroud doesn't touch bottom one.

New engine mounts? Maybe its sitting a little higher.

Even with moving tensoiner all the way down you cant get the shorter belt on?

The tensioner shouldnt allow any stretch issues since it should just make it tight. Maybe you have a tensioner problem and not a belt issue.

New motor mounts. Have the trans mount but haven't installed it yet. I was thinking that maybe that was causing a tilt in the system making the top of the fan higher.

When I pulled the belt off the tension was nearly maxed out for tightening. IIRC when the belt was new about 15000 miles ago the tensioner was at about the half way point. The pulley on the Heath water pump may be a little larger because the old belt was back to having the tensioner at the half way mark again.

QUOTE]I dont seem to find the time to finnish the patern to get it casted.( i was thinking about a 1 piece bottom end, like on the latest AMG blocks)There's always something else throwing a monky wrench in my spare time.

I ended up putting a rebuild in my 98,I should have scrapped the damn truck instead, one thing after another with it.

I feel like we're jackin' the thread here, -sorry guys.

Don't get in a hurry, -you still got the stang to drive, right?

If and when you need any help, feel free to PM me.

All the best man, good to hear from ya. I love the 6.5 community, there ain't a tighter bunch of guys anywhere.

Ratman....you remind me about me. I always run into the same problems no mater what I do. It seems like it will never get done because of this or that.

I know you will get it done and good luck with the engine once you get it started that is.....

hopefully this engine will run longer then the last one....

Talked to the guys at Heath today. They said sometimes the shroud needs trimming also old trans mount with new motor mounts could be a problem. Replaced the trans mount but the fan still hits. I swapped my stock fan, which has a smaller diameter, to the new clutch and everything fit. Sometime when I get a chance I'll do some major trimming to the shroud.

Radiator and coolant lines installed, so now its down to turbo, exhaust and fluids. I'm going to wait to install the wheel well until after I get it running. May be able to try and fire it up tomorrow night.
