Time for new engine

It rarely gets into single digits here. As long as the glows are working starting isn't a big deal. Went all the winter of 07/08 without a block heater because the old one died. Didn't have problems starting after I replaced the glow plugs.

Anyone familiar with the 6.2 know what goes in the unplugged threaded port between the plug and the large oil cooler port? My 6.5 didn't have it.

One of those can be used to feed the turbo, probably used to be an alternative spot for a oil pressure gauge. Put a pipe plug in it if you are not going to use it.

I am running a 6.2 block converted to 6.5 in my truck. Mine had a pipe plug at the front of the block just like my 6.5. I used it and plugged the one above the oil filter.

BTW, I primed my engine with an extension on a drill and I believe a 5/16" socket secured to the extension. Actually built about 30psi of oil pressure that way. It was kinda tough hanging onto to the drill at that pressure and in such an awkward position.

Where did you install the other block heater. On the pass side of the engine? WHich hole did you insert it into? Im getting ready to start revamping my new engine, it has 94k on it, and is southern. Nice engine man!!!!!!!

Passenger side middle hole. Its the hole opposite the one on that already has a heater in it.

Apparently that hole isn't for a pipe plug. After spending 30 minutes searching for a plug that would fit, I took a light and looked in the hole. It is a blind hole. Did the early 6.2 use a manual clutch? If so, I'm guessing it is for the Z-bar to mount.

I was going to say it was for the Z bar. Thats right where it is on my BBC.

Murphy done struck again. I want to kill that Irish SOB. Nothing major just lots of little stuff.

Was hoping to have the motor in today so I could have everything bolted up and truck inspected for next weekend, leave on vacation for a week. Guess I'll be borrowing my father's Ranger or brothers Ranger or Bronco.

  • Couldn't find where I put the new oil filler grommet.
  • Went to install the filter manager on which I'd performed the FTB mod and set up for pressure gauge and filter change light. Ran into clearance issues with lower intake. Need to get pipe die and custom make a nipple.
  • Installed starter and found out that D&^&%$$&%$ bracket is directly over the pass side block heater and will need to make a new bracket to install electric cord (can be done after motor in and running but still a pain)
  • Went to install clutch and could find 4 alignment tools but not the GM one. Hit Carquest only thing they had in stock was the Lisle set, OUCH. Got home and found out someone had bought it and returned with damaged threads.
  • Chain fall wanted to slide on the bale spear mounted on the loader. Moved it to the frame and didn't have the reach to clear the radiator support. By this time it was too late to rerig and get the motor in..

That's how things have been going since I started the reassembly Fri night.

Sounds about like how things work for me! BTW I got the Valeo clutch installed this week and put over 300 miles on it already alot of them towing the GN to the swap meet Sat. Took to tractor show grounds today to haul brush from the woods to the burnpile.

That's where I put mine in at also. The starter brkt was a pain but I know for sure the cord won't come unplugged.:D It's comprsses it pretty good but it didn't short it out. The other ones aren't acessible without some major work while it's in the truck.

Finally got the motor bolted into the truck today. It fought the whole way. Brother and I started about 11 and got the last bellhousing to block bolts tight about 5. Just couldn't get crap to line up and drop into place.

By that time I was so hot and tired I just said S(*&&( it, picked up the tools and rolled it back into the tent.

I'll get started hooking up stuff tomorrow.

flip the bracket over, just need to grind a bit of the side that goes on the starter, and drill one hole bit bigger, and turn the heater a wee bit side ways. That is how i done mine. fits perfect
