The "restification" of a 98 6.5 TD...

"Protecto wrap"?

is that a roofing product or asphalt based stuff?

Benzyl based rubber/sticky backed roll. Its housewrap for wrapping doors and windows, very similar to ice n water shield for roofing, (Grace Brand).

Comes in smaller cheaper more convenient rolls. After I put it on I run over it a few times with a heat gun pressing it on firmly. Made a huge difference in sound. From what I hear its very similar to DynoMat.

SmithvilleD gave me this idea, I happen to accumulate it from doing my jobs so its free to me for these small things like this, so I had nothing to lose.

I really would like to take my floorliner off and do the bottom, but my seat bolts have me worried, as well as the trim screws all rusty to the point of non existent almost. I've always wanted to replace those with nice SS anyhow. Hoping a hand impact driver will get them out, but may have to drill them out and go oversized self drilling hexhead Stainless be nice with a glob of silicone before entry after drilled. Then glob the bottom with silicone again from underneath.

Got in contact with the seller and changed the egt guage to this:

The blue will match my dash and radio.

It will be pretty slick if it works as advertised.....

Many will wonder why (I know they're not popular here), but I finally have one of these:

On the way.

It will be "modified" somewhat as I'm not a big fan of the "turbo Power" lettering and I have a few other small plans. First thought is this:

But I may get rid of the "turbo" also. Or I may grind off the red parts, put some black (or red?) mesh underneath and call it a day. Haven't quite decided yet...

I like a neat and tidy engine bay and this will keep things clean looking.

Well, maybe just "cleaner".....

Just thinking out loud....but that EGT guage would probably fit nicely in an overhead console too. Bit harder to watch the numbers up there, but it would be clean look.

Nice idea, but I already have an overhead console with the s10 compass and outside temp display:

and I'm looking at options to swap in the s10 display that gives trip odo, mpg, etc..

I love this thread. So i will subscribe! I really like that EGT gauge where you planning on putting it?

My cd player is no longer functional because of the ipod control adapter so the egt gauge will go there once I make a blanking plate, along with a few led's or switches. Or I may buy another of the same gauges and use it as a boost gauge, depending on space available...

On another note, I picked up another cargo light switch for the dash to use as the high idle switch. This will maintain a "stock-ish" look instead of the steel toggle swiych that's in there now.

I also picked up a door buzzer that "chimes" for the truck. I prefer the chime to the buzz and I need to keep the warning for "keys in" or lights on. It came out of a 90's impala if anyone is wondering...

Woot!

Just cruised ebay, found a complete bravada console for 20 bucks shipped!

Looks like the "mode" button, but even if it's not it's got the homelink style buttons I wanted:

That's worth at least the 20 bucks I paid for it...

eBay.

Usually a rip off, but you can run across good deals form time to time.

Should be interesting to see if the Inst MPG, avg MPG, trip etc work with my diesel....

Arent the s10 console's different from the fullsize trucks? Thought they were a bit different...but even if they are, does the temp/compass display fit right in? And as for the homelink, what else does it provide other than being able to program in garage door codes?

And talking about stock looking switches, i got two grey fog light switches out of a volvo that should match the stock switches nicely. Not a fan of chrome toggles all over the dash.

Don't understand the question. Where to get what? the Display? Ebay or scrapyard. The data? from the data wire on the radio....

So one gauge cant read all the boost egt etc?

Not a the same time, no. The same gauge can be set up to read different parameters, but it's not "switchable" on the fly...IE: when it's a boost guage, it's a boost guage and nothing else.

S10 consoles are different, but the display is the same. The suburban console is different again, the front "panel" is big and square on that one.

The compass/temp display is pretty much a "stand alone" unit with it's own external temp sensor. The real question is whether or not the diesel's data stream has the right ino to display DTE, MPG etc. I'm willing to bet it won't due to the differences in the BCM/PCM setup, but I'm also willing to waste a couple bucks to find out....

Homelink depends on your home and how automated it is. If you have wireless remote lights or gates etc, it can be setup to control them. For me, it's the garage doors only...

Very nice job on all your stuff. Im in the process of doing the FTB mod right now. The i/p fitting is a boitch to drill, i need to find a hardened bit. I already have my extra filter housing tapped that i bought from the junkyard for 13 bucks. I needs new seals though, have to order them from my local GM dealer. I have air leaks in my fuel lines too, they are spliced together here and there between the l/p and filter manager. So i also plan on re-doing them all too. I cant wait to get back to work on my truck, its been a while.

Seller backed out on the overhead console.

As soon as I won it, he started with "shipping costs are gonna be more" that day.

Ignored me for a couple days, then some BS about how he listed the auction wrong, changed shipping charges, yadda-yadda-yadda.

Personally?

I just think he was pissed that I won the item for only 20 bucks. That's what you get with a no reserve auction buddy....

At least I got my 20 back.....after keeping on him for a couple days.

Neg feedback on the way for that SOB......

On a better note:

Got home from my deployed course today and found my IP from bison waiting for me along with my EGT guage.

I also recharged the AC system on the truck and it's working "hunky dorey" again
