Well i went to sioux city and for $400 here is what i came back with 2 blocks 1 with starter bolt problems and is mostly a complete motor with alt, water pump, IP, and a set of bosch inj. the other is a long block complete with good heads that appere to be crack free with another set of bosch inj. the cyl are rather rusty and it is froze up but the block apperars to be crack free so that one is looking positve.

ill try and get some pics up tomorrow i think i was a decent deal if something

Since you are going to tear those blocks down to build them, I'd either get them magnafluxed before having the machine work done or buy a dye penetrant test kit and check for cracks. If you have a Granger near you the kit is available there.

Better to make sure the block is good than to build it an find out later.

What weld test did you have to do? Any pics of that?:smile5:
I'm gonna guess aluminum. You wouldn't let steel cool down between passes. The hotter the better. Done a few 1" test plates in my day.

no i did a 1" plate vertical with flux core. i thought about taking a pic and i forgot all about it oh well nothing special i had to do them regularly at my old work but had to take another to graduate. if it was flat it wouldnt have been a big deal on the temps but when its vertical to hot and it runns down

I'd have mine starting to glow before I started. Otherwise you just keep bumping up the wire speed.
That piston looks nasty. How long do you suppose that one sat outside apart?
The broken starter block definitly looks repairable. I hope this turns out better than my bus engine did.

not sure. he had it in the bed of an old pickup witha topper on but it looks like it was there quite a while

Congrats on your test Josh. I think you should be able to get one good one outta those two.
