So, exactly who makes the ATT?

Things must be real slow over that way, or as Jim said possibly an initiation rite of passage so you can get your tough-guy moderator merit badge points.

While you did not cast aspersions directly toward the ATT, you implied (or it read that way) that something was inferior about it being from China, when that information was available to anyone who chooses to read it, reason I did not say again in this thread above, I was hoping the OP would read about it on their own initiative no one was trying to obscure the origin.

I don't know how long you have been with the Auto Forums cartel , but the ATT was 1st fielded there, and once freely discussed, had some of the staff and owners there not been so anal, there would be active discussion there still.

Mention ATT on that site and you get falsely accused of being something you are not, then when you try to defend yourself, you get dressed down in PM & public. Enjoy your tenure as moderator over there, help them to make their $$$ there while you bust your tail as a volunteer.

That site was once for enthusiasts, by enthusiasts, now owned by the Auto Forum cartel, while they did buy the content most of which was created and given freely by many members here; the one thing they did not buy was the heart & soul that created the site, it is however alive & well over here.

Happy motoring TTS family first shot across the bow was not even a near miss.

DP staff members that feel the need to discuss old wounds there here, let it go please as we know from the past it tends to get bad fast to the detriment of both sites. If you wish to yack it up on your site have at it.

Owwww......Anyone get the number of that bus? Somehow i ended up getting thrown under it yet again? :rippedhand: I love how we all get lumped into the same group when the actions of only a few in said group that caused this bad blood from the start.

Now that wasn't nice alberta boy. I've read stuff on here for a long time. Just didn't see a reason to sign up till a few guys were ***** footing around about where the turbo was made. I haven't bashed it, just made a point. I was actually interested in it when my gm-3 crapped out, till I realized where it was made

ROFL ... just had to give ya a poke. ):h

As for the ATT, wasn't nobody hiding where it came from. As has been mentioned, it was right there from the beginning. You can probably find the same threads over there, unless they got deleted.

What TD is trying to explain to you is the ATT was a major reason why the old mod crew over there broke up... some people got all worked up about even mentioning the turbo - no kidding, you were not allowed to discuss it or you got suspended and were awarded 'points'. Heck, I got banned for faking a PM (you read that right... not actually sending one, just faking it as in posting 'Turbo? PM sent' in a thread.)

A bunch of us used to be mods over there until that sort of stuff happened. I can see controlling the vendors, but telling people what they can and can't mention?

You seem like a good guy (hey, you're from the home of the Bentley Generals, how bad can you be?), so I'll tell you up front - the guys over here that have the ATT are the best diesel minds around... and none would have bought it if they weren't sure of how well it works. Turbine Doc, Buddy, Matuva, Slim Shady, Detroit Dan, NVW ('nother Alberta boy), guybb3, 635, and a host of others are all straight-up guys and would tell you sure if they had any questions about the turbo at all.

But none of them do... the big difference is that we can discuss it, argue about it, even disagree with each other or the mods freely over here.

If your GM3 is dead or dying, you can buy yourself a bolt-on ATT replacement for less than a rebuilt GM8. And you get 'way more turbo.

But it's surely your call - if you want to believe that all stuff sourced in China is junk, that's up to you. Start reading labels, though...
Jim

LOL @ Dave... no, you didn't. Unless anything Tim or I said matches you (and I don't think it does), we're speaking more 'generically'.

Diaric's first post over here was one line - sort of providing a little :nopity:, so we obliged.

I don't think you have any thing to worry about Dave.:smile5:

no no Dave, I know you're OK, and to be honest, if I still keep posting at the other place (less now), it's because I feel I can be from some help to the newbies, and I know you're OK.
Don't worry about that bus, it's not for you :nono:

Passengers of that bus know themselves ):h

Dave you take things far too personal, you aren't the only mod/staff over there that reads/accesses/posts here, that would choose to comment negatively to the ATT in public and in backrooms there & here.

If you will recall, one individual there once came here complaining about something said there & here and recommended that we should reprimand the offending party here for what happened there, wasn't going to happen we run our site somewhat differently and do not feel the need to put on a tough guy badge to moderate.

Your former probie that maybe needs some further probie time, fired a shot (cheap one IMO) across the forum in his 1st & 2nd post here a so if you took what I posted it as a directive toward you that was not my intent at all.

We have 2 vendors here that sell the ATT so a little decorum from your visiting staff here would be appreciated, I don't know if you want to address that @ DP in PM since you are Sr staff there now or so I have been told but that is up to you or not water over that bridge now as far as I'm concerned.

Boy this thread has taken several odd twists & turns.

  :drama:

I installed a super duty clutch and nine bladed metal fan recently and have noticed a loss in MPG of 1 to 1.5 MPG on the last three tanks. While not conclusive it is at least something to look at. My mileage has been consistent until recently.

I notice the fan stays engaged more than the stock viscus clutch did.

I think for cooling the Hayden SD works very well with the Stock steel 9 blade.

Hmmm ... where did you get your clutch, Dennis? There are several potential contributing factors there... I am a wealth of trivial semi-useless knowledge about fluid clutch packs...

BigT, do you have a plastic DMax fan on the 99, or at least compare blades on the two, 95 might only have 6 and your 9. The fan clutches might be different, maybe you have the spin on kind.

I noticed when I went from my stock fan to the DMax fan it pulls a lot more air even at idle, before the clutch even egages. Thats a drag on the engine too, and I think I lost some MPG from it.

Buddy, it's the stock steel spin on 9 blade on the '99. My mpg on the '95 is pre Heath cooling upgrade with the DMAX plastic fan. That DMAX fan blows a roar at low speeds.

I'm very happy with the ATT. It factored heavily in the purchase. There is one in the '95s future. Just go read my son's post in my transmission emergncy thread on the 4l80e Board. He hopp

If MPG was recorded pre cooling upgrade you also have to take into consideration it used to have a lower flow water pump than 96+ trucks, which is power taken from the engine, the cooling system is the biggest parasitic loss. And those early 6 blade fans didnt have much drag to them, at least not my old one, not like the new clutch and DMax fan I put on. I have yet to put a higher flow water pump on, because right now I have no reason to. The truck never gets hot and I dont tow much. The more heat you pull off the less efficient the engine runs.

He hopped into my '99 after leaving his at the dealership and immediately raved about the performance difference. Just tough to spring for one now after dropping $3100 on a new trans.

As for all this China distractive talk, fact is that you can get some good stuff made in China, particularly with products low on the complexity curve. Turbos are definitely low on that curve. Perfect product to be made in China.

I ran the '95 from 40k to 155k miles before giving it to my son, though I still feel like it's mine. I installed the HO water pump and dual crossover t-stat at 50k. It always had the steel 6 blade up until the Heath cooling upgrade at 155k. So nearly all my seat of the pants mileage reference for the '95 is with the HO pump and 6 blade, though I do not recall any mileage difference with the HO pump.

Thats awesome, I think I'll keep mine to just 30,000rpm and not the 150,000 rpm that makes them explode. The Holsets just implode so all of the metal ends up in your engine and causes it to lock up and leave you dead in traffic ;)

ROFLMFGAO at buddy ... what's with this, 4320diesel? Must have had yourself a break between floods and tornados in the flatlands ...

Anyway, nobody ever said the ATT was an illegal Holset clone. The video is pretty cool, though - I like destuctive testing of all kinds of stuff. Turbos, tractors, roughriders (count to 12)... :D

All the newbie DP mods coming out of the woodwork at once?

Hmmmm....illegal Holset clone + propane = homemade turbine engine. Or it = homemade grenade not sure which though.... ):h

Has bad idea written all over it, however I'm the local king of bad ideas. So.... who wants to get 911 on standby for me?
