Project 350HP update

This truck does belong to 635. Since I am going into the Navy in Dec. I sold him all my parts as well as hooked him up with some connections I had for other parts like the AirDog system, Snow upgraded pump, Filtration Solutions filters, ext. I don't mind someone taking my record down if I am behind the wrench so to speek. We are doing a lot of work on this truck. Not just performance but interior upgrades as well which I will post when I get them done. Heath wants to champion his truck with a top speed rig, I want to do it with a top HP rig. 303 was a major step in the right direction but if we can hit 350rwhp with this than I will be looking at a record that will stand for some time.

I have put many hours into this truck along with Todd over at Heath and the boys at Avant. It is a group effort and this truck will have every advantage a 6.5 has ever had on the dyno. If for some reason we don't get our new record then we will have built one of the best ever 6.5 tow rigs on the road today.

I just love having the wrench in my hand and working with our sponsors like Airdog and Snow to make a one of a kind truck. This truck is going to be featured in MaxxTorque and Diesel World. I don't have the exact dates but I have spoken with the head editors of the two magazines and they both would like to see more 6.5 stories. So for those of you out there that are doing cool or unique stuff with your 6.5 and would like some help getting it published please let me know. I have a lot of magazine contacts and would love to help get your story told!

Thanks for all your support,

Ian Carver

Both this buildup and CIL6's will be quite powerful. CIL6 will most likely have the most powerful 6.5 ever built without drugs. If he adds that then his engine will be a force to reckon with. The custom intake and headers Will made and the twin turbo GM8s, as well as his valvetrain work is very unique. I assume Heath's future intentions with their racer will bring in the modifications to make it much more powerful than it is now. Right now CIL6 is working on more revolutionary modifications than anyone, which is promising. MaxPF's built engine will be running soon too.

Its really interesting to see multiple performance rigs coming together at once. The respect for the 6.5 is ever growing with its age.

I didn't realize there were two others doing such projects, I would love to see what they are doing. Please have them post pics or any info if they could. Like I said any truck I can help get some print on is always good for the 6.5 community.

People, Ian is doing all the installation of the parts to my engine/pickup. I sure all of you have read the articles in MaxxTorque he wrote for the water/methanol injection and for the propane injection. He did these installations to his engine/truck as well as others so I figured he must know what he is doing. I have the ideas as to what I would like done and how I would do it, I let Ian know this and he does most of it...but it is his way! But it works out better than the way I wanted it done. It is not that I can't turn a wrench, it is that he has done this a few times in the past and knows where everything goes. And he knows the right people to get the right parts. I'm supplying the engine/pickup and a lot of the parts and he does the installation. This is a joint venture of everyone involved, Bill Heath, Todd Hughes, Jamie Avant, Ian Carver, and myself. Along with a many thanks to all the companies involed too. Just don't let it go bang!

CIK6 is building quite an engine. We have had a few discussions about his work, very impressive.

You know you're going to inadvertantly drive up the cost of 6.5'!

This truly is a treat to be watching this thread as it builds... Great job to the entire team.

Must be great building that thing they way you're doing it....

This also explains the 'coolant overflow tank' issue. Must be getting costly as well.

Ok so I figured I would give you all an update as to the trucks progress. I finally got all the parts I needed to finish the turbo install and fired up the truck for the first time last night. Everything sound great! I will be driving it today to get the turbo settled in and then it is on to the fuel system. I have that great new AirDog 150 thanks to Charles over at Fuel Preporator Inc. and a FTB system thanks to Turban Doc. With these two fuel system upgrades in place I think we will have no shortage of fuel delivery under any conditions. I will try and post pictures tonight of the work that gets done. At this point I am slightly limited as to how many pictures I post because I now have Diesel World and MaxxTorque on board for features on this truck so I will post what I can.

Thank you so much for your support and I am glad to know people are enjoying the thread!

Regards,

Ian

how much power does it feel like it has compared to the old setup

The new turbo has a little slower spool up and seems to max the gauge out at 15psi so we need to put a larger boost gauge on to see where we are at. I have not run any of the drugs to it yet so I antisipate creating even more boost when we add nitrous, propane, water/meth, and now possibly hydrogen injection if I can get the sponsor to come through. But the truck did run very well today for its first test. So the next step is to start on the fuel system. I will get back the results to that as soon as I can.

Here are a few pics I promised of the new braided turbo oil return line installed and working great. We decided to use a flexible braided stainless line in order to keep the oil away from having to return through the passage tube between the exhaust manifolds. Plus in my opinion and I think 635 would agree that anytime you can do an upgrade that is not only functional and pleasing to the eye it is always a plus. As I said before I am going to be very limited as to how many pics I can post do to magazine obligations but I will post what I can where I can to keep you as visually up to date as possible. As for my initial thoughts from our test drive on the new A-Team Turbo, lets just say I fully endurse this new turbo and will do anything I can do to help push it. The slightly slower spool up is quickly compensated by quality low EGT boost pressures at all speeds. This new turbo doesn't need to create high boost levels during cashual driving thus allowing for possibly better fuel economy and lower EGT's. We will be testing this system with a fith wheel behind our truck up a very tough hill without any additional fuel resources to see how it will respond. As I said before from the info I gathered today it was worth my busted knuckle doing the install and myself and 635 are happy to have made the conversion. More to come soon!

Regards to all the readers of this post, and please if you have questions about anything we are doing don't hesitate to ask.

Ian Carver

Ian,
Great looking truck. You have done a fantastic job. Will you have the ability to dyno test each drug individually? I am interested in the improvements, if any, of the hydrogen.

BTW- Buddy was refering to your spelling of Turbine Doc (Turban Doc). Turban being the head gear of those from a muslim background. I am sure I am not being politically correct, but I don't care!!!!

Oh yeah, well public education. You know how it goes with spelling!

And sorry to Turbine Doc, I am sure he will bring it up next time he calls to chat.

I believe 635 is getting the dyno for much of the day, so here is what we plan to do with that time.

Baseline run: Diesel only w/ ATT
Second run: Diesel, ATT, & water/meth
Third run: Diesel, ATT, & propane
Fourth run: Diesel, ATT, & nitrous
Fifth run: Diesel, ATT, & hydrogen (if we have it)
Sixth run: Everything we got!

Now if time permits, we will be putting the GM-8 back on and doing a baseline run with just diesel and GM-8. The time it takes to swap turbos should cool the motor enough for a good second test. I am hoping to get as many runs in as possible. I know a lot of you would love to see real world dyno numbers on what these parts do so lets hope we can bring them to you. I am not sure if I will be able to post the results on the site untill after the magazines are on the stands but I will post some pics while we are at Dynomite Diesel.

Hope this answers your queston.

Ian

P.S. I am getting married this weekend so all work on the truck will be very slow untill around next Tuesday. Just a little FYI.

Ground breaking Ian... Hats off to you guys for doing this for the 6.5 community. This info will be in the stickies forever.

I would like to see what the others have done.

CIL6 is one in particular, he has great stuff he is doing himself. His one of a kind intake and dual turbo setup is something everyone needs to see. He's a great fabricator.
