Painting my truck this weekend

You could leave the 6.5 diesel black and put turbo after it in smaller red letters. I think the size of the letters and the brightness of the chrome or red is a little too "loud" which is why the more sublte black looks good. So a darker red would be cool, like a transition between black and the red on the side of the truck.

Thats a good idea. Now to find some smaller letters. Sometimes I look at other emblems and think What can I spell with those letters. Like "Silverado" on the new trucks, you can spell "Diesel" with those also. Can you think of another I could spell "Turbo" with?
cant believe I didnt even notice the mirrors until somebody asked about them, I must have been distracted by the badass hood. They look pretty fugly imo when they are in the upright position. No offense

You guys are crazy, chrome Chevy grilles are far better looking and make much more power... Due most likely to chromes power-adding capabilities, since the GMC grille actually appears to let a lot more air thru. Aces, if your Chevy grill is good and ever ends up needing a new home, let me know. Mines pretty cracked and beat up.

I dont run with them up unless towing. I agree they look weird folded out, BUT they are functional as hell compaired to anything else that looks decent.

GMC grill is also more aerodynamic!!

He said GMC flows more. Anyone have wind tunnel test results handy?

Posting more pictures next.

Who is getting there truck painted next?

ME !!!!:D:D

i like the chrome chevy grill. i would like to fine some other mirrors that are more functional with a wider area of view i like the way the mirrors on the 06 dmax's are nut im not sure if they will work

Looks awesome! Ive always liked the black/red combo on the older style gm's but you dont see it often on these trucks.

My 95' might be seeing some paint if i have money leftover after the engine rebuild :D

Second to the GMC grille is the 93 Chevy grille IMO. I have allways like that one. Maybe sentamental as my first 6.5 was a 93 I ordered in 92. I should never have sold that truck.

I need to do both of ours.
Wife's truck was painted less than 2 yrs ago by a cousin ( had his own bodyshop)worst job i ever seen:mad2: Rust is coming trough every where again but twice as bad.Paint is peeling too.

My own veh is gravel blasted under the doors and rear fenders,no rust yet.I bought it like that. No mud flaps left.

BTW Good job on yours.

Thanks,

Yea those "brother in law" deals sometime come back to bite you

I had my car worked on at a local small town place long ago and they must have masked over part of the door when putting clear coat on, so it wasnt coated in that area. I didnt immediately notice, but brought it back and they told me they wouldnt cover any more work on it. A few months later rust started bulging out in all the places I had them "fix". That place went out of business about a year later.

One thing about chain places is they usually have a clear cut guarantee policy.

Yea,seems like a restoration/paint job is another You're better off to DIY job.

I done it a few times before yrs ago, sooo much work if you wanna do it right.

I used to work in a bodyshop . I swept the floors and cleaned up and then moved up to wetsand and so on and the one thing I learned there is the only way to keep something that rusted from rusting again is to replace it. Period. New Metal is the only cure for rust. If it rusted once, grinding and filler won't stop it.

This should be the last pictures for a week or so, waiting on body side mouldings and pinstripe.
Got the grille and tailgate painted. You can see chrome letters on DS hood

Black letters on PS hood.
Need to wash it real good and shine up the chrome.

In post 96, the second pic, you have an aftermarket grill on the passenger fender. I am guessing it is a cold air intake for the turbo. Could you tell me where you got it? I have seen another similar set up before and think that is good looking way to supply cold air.

I really like how your rig is looking! Very good work there!

fantastic job, and the black does look better than the chrome

I found a couple "turbo" emblems. Will post a pic after they get painted.
