More pictures MATT

Got her in the paint booth and wraped up.

All wiped down with wax and greese remover.
96 paint 003.jpg
You want the edges of the repairs to look soft or faded.
96 paint 005.jpg
Buddys shop is a mess, but in background you can see part of the house built inside the building.
96 paint 008.jpg
Paint booth. With bake.
96 paint 010.jpg
Outside awning where I did all the prep work.

Pool was only feet away

I did not have time to paint it today without feeling all rushed. So, tomorrow is the big day. Going to seal some areas of bare metal then put down the red base. Wait for that to dry enough to mask off then spray the black. Then rip off the masking covering the red and clear the whole thing.
What do you guys think about using a barbed wire pin stripe? or should I go more stock looking?

Got her painted today!!

Sealed roof.

Sealed around primer/repairs.
96 paint job 004.jpg
Mixing red paint. It is the Victory red.
96 paint job 005.jpg
First coat of red. Notice that no masking is done at this time (for the two tone)
96 paint job 006.jpg
One full coat of red
96 paint job 010.jpg

96 paint job 011.jpg
This is trird coat of red base coat
96 paint job 012.jpg
Purple fine line tape.
96 paint job 017.jpg
Followed by 3/4" masking tape. Notice the jamb cracks are taped off. That pevents black overspray finding its way into the red.

96 paint job 019.jpg
Fully masked off the red & almost ready for black base coat.
96 paint job 020.jpg
First tack off the red where the red is in the area that black will go. All this red dust on tach rag could have found its way into the finish.
96 paint job 021.jpg
Third coat of black base coat.
96 paint job 025.jpg
Removed masking. First coat of clear. Look behind tire you can see how it instantly glosses up compaired to just a little lower it is still the dull base coat. (In the area where date/time stamp is)

96 paint job 029.jpg
With this Glazurit clear they actually only recomend one coat on the sides and two on the roof and hood (trunk if a car) I put two wet coats over everything.

finished.

Tomorrow I will pull it out of the booth and start putting her together again. Will take a few more pics of it then.
I think I am leaning toward the barbed wire pinstripe:D

Wow Leroy, that is seriously sweet!!

Looks like I'm not the only one who will need to change my avatar! :D

Looks like you have some competition!

Leroy, Looks fantastic! Looks like you get what you pay for with paint. That is very vivid, and what a shine.

Looks great!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Any curing under lights or heat?

Thanks again for the kind words.
Dave it looks like you changed your already? I was giving serious thougt to using the same maroon as yours instead of red. We need a GTG for our area, what do you think?

I got the truck back together today. Im going to wait about a week to do pinstripe and body mouldings, that will give plenty of time for solvents to out gas.
I forgot the camera again today, but will take some pics tomorrow. Still need to paint the tailgate, will do that this weekend hopefully.
All in all I am real happy with the way it turned out. I only had around 20 hours in the prep (it was just me). From start to finish was a week and only worked a few hours a day on it and nothing on thursday except to wipe it down.
My friend was amazed at how clean it came out. There was no trash in the paint except for on the roof. No one will see it up there anyway. Can't think of anything else. Oh Im going to paint the letters for the hood one set red and one black to let you guys see the difference.
More pics soon

Any curing under lights or heat?

I was typing while you posted this.
Yes I did bake it, 140 degrees for 30 minutes. With this clear it actually flows out even more with heat. You have to be carfull not to load up on the clear because you might think it looks good, but then go look again after its been baked and all the clear has flowed off onto the ground:eek:

Anyone that gets a paint job should remove the PCM before baking. They dont like a constant heat like that. They dont even like sitting in the sun inside your truck. that would apply to the TCM too I guess. 30 minutes probably isnt a big deal, and Im sure there are shops that go over 140F too.

Good point and cheap insurance. I did not have to worry though as mine is converted to a DB2 pump ):h
