Need new cyl head fast

I would try to Torch the damn thing out, cast iron wont cut with the torch, the bolt will.
You got notting to lose
I toyed with that idea but canned it because I wasn't sure how that much heat would affect the valve seals. I had pulled the injector when I was heating the bolt.

Could always buy your parent's PS....

That idea is still on the table. It's no winner either. About equal to my Dually rustwise. The truck was plowed. Infact my motehr lost the brakes last week. Both front brake lines to the calipers rotted as well as one rear on the chassis. She had no brakes at all.

To me it sounds like you need to go buy a brand new truck. You have lost all your patience . By buying another used truck you will only find something wrong with it as you have with the last 6 or 8 in the last year or so. Then get into the trade every 2 years and never have to fix anything. With the 0% interest financing on new trucks it would cost less than what you've been throwing away on the trucks you buy and dump.
Just my $.02

did anyone ask one of the supporting vendors in the vendor requests section?

just saying thats all...

tell em what you found them for and where & see if they will match it or come close...

I've had my truck for so long now, and no payment, I just look at the necessary repairs as being normal. I used to get mad and bitch about the truck falling apart and getting old, but now I just grin and bear it. If I spend a hundred or two on something, I know I probably won't have to worry about that part again for years. I know what a new one costs, and when I start spending more every month on repairs than a new truck payment, including registration and insurance, then maybe I'll consider it.
Actually I won't consider it. I hate new trucks. If my 97 gives up the ghost I'll just have to hurry up and finish my 82. So far I've got around $2000 into it, probably less than $1000 to go til it's finished. How many new truck payments would that be? Only about 5 or 6 I bet.
In my buddies shop the other day he did exhaust manifold bolts on a new Dodge. Well not new but a hell of a lot newer than my truck. Wasn't even rusty either, just a POS to work on. Gotta be a way to get that bolt out. Even if you drop the truck off at a shop and pay to have it done, it's cheaper than a new truck. My back is junk too, I am starting to give up doing things I used to refuse to pay to have done.

I didn't think anyone here sold them. I ordered them from Summit. Summit ships lightening fast. I will probably have them by Friday. I am not even sure I am going to pull the head but I figured I'd buy them just in case. I have two other trucks with same setup so they will get used at some point if not on this. I am seriously revisting My dad's truck. I think BK nailed it right on the head. I've just lost patience. Unfortunatly a new truck just isn't an option between the cost of buying and the cost of owning. A new truck would cost me 13-1400$ a year just in property tax. That is a hard hit on top of a note and carryiing collision insurance. Just aint got it. I wrote this in another thread but when the Dually broke down over the summer in 100 degree heat and my 76 yr old mother had to come pull my camper home, that Powerstroke didn't even break a sweat. IDK. The thought of pulling that head is not appealing right now. I hurt myself bad last time I tried to do them. Machine shop in town said they can almost defintely get the bolt out if I bring them the head.

If you don't need the truck and have another one to drive for the time being just give yourself a break. I have one extra vehicle in the family here. If one breaks down I don't have to get it up and running the next day. I get frustrated too at times and just walk away from it for a few days. Sometimes I let it sit for a week or two until I feel like working on it. My Dad always tells me to trade it off for a new one. Heck when I think about the payments he has I don't mind spending a few hundred dollars on the old girl. Then when I get it running I always drive over to the old man's house and show him what I did. Makes me feel better and another thing is I am always learning when I am working the older stuff. What else have you got to do? Heck we would all miss you here if you purchased a d-max. Heck I am dreading the day when something goes wrong with my d-max. Ever look in the engine compartment of one of those? Go on a 3 dayer and you will come back like a new man ready to hit r.

If you have an engine hoist, stick the boom in there and let it lift out and set in. If you don't have one, Harbor freight has them cheap. Hook to center of head so you can pivot it around to set down straight. Have someone to run the valve on the pump. Anyone good with a torch can burn out that broken bolt, tap and or drill, with no or little damage to the threads. Use short bursts with cutting tip so you don't get cast iron to melting point.

Well, maybe if I'm feelin good I'll pull it this weekend. Fortunatley it is drivers side and it is also the same head I snapped the glowplug in (same cyl) so....I might even be able to get it out myself. Once I can get the head on a drill press I can put alot more steady force on the bit. Any tips on using ARP studs ? Bill H recommends backing the stud off a 1/4 turn before the nut goes on and using sillicone. I ama not a lover of sillicone(Except Implants...:D) . Any thoughts on using Aviation permatex ? That stuff has always proven well for me , just a bitch to get the stuff off .

Kenny

Take a deep breath, let it out slowly, take two asperin and cll me in the morning.

I have had great luck with the Clearwater heads. Fast service and good product.

I keep hearing about the "Horror stories" but have yet to actually get any real solid info.

Good luck
