My K3500 Dually 6.5TD Thread

You can tee into the drain, a minimum of 5 psi at idle or 1 psi at WOT.

Edit: this is to check for LP pressure, not for the air in fuel

easiest is the drain t at the front of the engine. just remember that it is pre filter so a plugged filter or screen in the FFM will still restrict flow to IP

ok,so if when it is running and there is fuel coming out of the drain,it means the lift pump is running good enough right?

i think i will prolly change the filter too while i'm at it.

generally speaking if you have fuel flow out the drain while it's running your probably ok. I think the air in the system messes with the electronics of the IP and it can't decide what to do.

i will try all these little tricks tomorrow too.

gonna do the injectors and GP anyways while i have the down pipe off to put on the new exhaust.

then i can get at that damn broken ground strap down there that i found changing oil the other day too.

things i did today and the issues i have!!!

changed-GP,injectors,fuel filter and put the clear line on return.

got it running and warmed it up.

it idles very nice, can't barely see the motor shimmy it's so smooth.(no missing)

when i get on the throttle is where i am having a problem now.

best way to explain it is like a gasser with a carb bogging then revving up.

then it runs smooth till it hits about 2800rpm then it starts missing and chugging and smoking. :WTF:

upon checking the clear tube, there is no bubbles what so ever at idle, but can't see what it does when i hit the throttle when i'm by myself.

opened the "t" valve at idle and it fills a plastic beer cup in mere seconds so i think there is lots of fuel getting to it.

would this possibly be a IP problem?

OH,and what is the diff between a bosch 974 & 973 injector?i pulled 974's out and put in 973's.

didn't realize they were different until i only had 2 left to changed :mad2:

it's gotta be something simple, and that's probably what it is with my luck.

it is acting like it is starving for fuel.

it wouldn't have anything to do with the diff injectors?

or whatever the diff is in the numbers

don't know much about db2s but I'm wondering if the advance is acting up. If it idles really smooth it sounds like it might be retarded

well you rotate the pump to the drivers side to advance it. there should be a scribe mark where the pump meets the housing. just 2 slashes you line up. a couple of mms is quite a bit.

ok,cool

thanks ak,i will play with it a little in the morn then and see how it goes.

how will it act if i get it to far advanced?

thought i better ask so i have no surprizes, lol

it should get more rattly the farther you go. no idea what happens when you go "too far". also you do realize I was talking about the built in advance on the IP not where the pump is set. from what little I've read it is affected by rpms and fuel pressure and also temps
