Usually you can find that bad ujoint by temperature. Be careful though they can get quite hot without having noticeable slop

Trip was a success.
First off i started noticing a driveline vibration on the way down at 75 to 80-MPH. Never had felt this before, but rarely get to 75-MPH locally to home.
I did get the notorious u-joint squeak starting faint while coasting, then becoming more pronounced during acceleration while we were down in TN. Checked the joints, no play noted. We did check for play prior to leaving too, but this is something you just can't identify!

We will be pulling the rear for new joints. May be pulling the front as well for piece of mind.
I had that thought going through my mind on the way home. How hot that sucker could get.Usually you can find that bad ujoint by temperature. Be careful though they can get quite hot without having noticeable slop
Same as last year, touristy Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg as the kinds like the stuff on the "strip".Sounds like a pretty good trip without any major issues. What part of Tennessee did you go to?
I would assume you all took in Dollywood while you were there? I have been to Pigeon Forge many times over the years, I can be there in less than 1.5 hours. We use to go for 3 or 4 days at a time, shopping, eating big, Dollywood and a trip to Cades Cove. Hadn't been there in about 5 or 6 years though, we haven't really had much time for a vacation. We have to stay close to home, my in-laws are in bad health, the live near us.I had that thought going through my mind on the way home. How hot that sucker could get.

Actually out of the 3x we have gone not yet to Dollywood. It's tough to justify the cost as my offspring are all young (5y, 3y and 4mo) to do most stuff.I would assume you all took in Dollywood while you were there? We did do the Stampede dinner attraction for the 2nd time and the kids absolutely loved it. I was disappointed during this visit as the pre-show live guitar ripping banjo guys werent there.
Yuppie hiked (paved path) to clingmans dome, did Cades cove as well. For the first time this year we did Tuckaleechee Caverns. My first time "spelunking"!
We will definitely have to keep it in mind, my dad used to take us to a lot of the theme parks. Will be fun to enjoy the rides with my kids when the age/size comes! Sounds like next year will be a trip to the ocean down south. I assume Myrtle Beach or the like as grade school spring break will be late April. I hope its warm enough.I hear you about Dollywood, it's not cheap going in there and most of the rides are for older kids, plus adults. Once your kids gets old enough to ride those rides they will really enjoy it. I think Dollywood just added another roller coaster this year. We use to get a season pass and if we went in there 2 or 3 times a season, it pretty well paid for its self.
Back to the Yukon, it's nice to have a larger vehicle if you have 3 kids, that's a plus. I hope it serves you well for a long time. I'm sure you will have to do a few minor things now and then, but their pretty durable vehicles.
When the shop over in Citrus Heights California OHd the 4L60E in my 93, He recommended an auxiliary cooler ahead of the radiator. Told Him, just do it.We will definitely have to keep it in mind, my dad used to take us to a lot of the theme parks. Will be fun to enjoy the rides with my kids when the age/size comes! I was initially going to settle for a Tahoe/Yukon when I was in the market (I had a GMT400 in high school that I loved), but kept telling myself I want the space of the XL or Suburban. So glad I kept with that mentality, the back was full to darn near the roof with 7 passengers on this trip!
My biggest fear is its going to rot away like everything else does here due to the abusive salts/liquids. My intention is to fluid film yearly, and drive it less in the winter months and let it sit with the plow on it. Problem is I prefer driving it over my company truck, and what good is a vehicle you cant drive. Hope the fluid film is the right answer. Secondary fear is the 4l60e, my dad never had good luck with them but I always chalked it to his driving habits. The trans did get hot going up to Clingmans dome. Like 215-F as we sat in 1.5 hours of traffic, might change the fluid again this summer. It definitely needs a bigger trans cooler eventually.

To be honest I think it is a concern. I believe there is a crush sleeve in there, I just tried to tighten it up and not crush it down anymore. But no real way to know at this point. Really needs to be checked with a dial indicator on the ring gear along with pattern. How does that affect the depth of your pinion gear to ring gear meshing and the crush washer for pinion bearing preload, or is none of that a concern with that style/year of rear differential?
I slightly crushed one down once. Took a pinion shim and stacked onto the crush sleeve then readjusted crush and called it good.To be honest I think it is a concern. I would like to milk this set out until I swap to 4.10s.
