Moose Call...

We have had a lot of problems at work with UPS lately. Hate to say This; @ WarWagon but Fed Ex has been a problem for us for a long time.. We ship a lot of heavy parts. Really falls back on shipper to package it right, because we know most of the shipping people do not value items like they are theirs.

Yeah, you should have seen what UPS did to one of the two cylinder heads for my '94 6.5 back in 2006. I get home to find two boxes on my front porch, one in good shape, the other all beat to hell with one end ripped out and obviously taped back together with UPS logo packing tape. Guess one of their handlers didn't believe the HEAVY THIS SIDE UP ^ stamped in big, red letters on the box. Whatever he did, the head had tore through the end of the box and apparently landed on a concrete floor judging by the damage pattern to the head. It hit on one corner and then either slid or was dragged across the floor before being put back into the box and resealed. There was a big, whopping dent in the corner of the head that pushed a ridge of metal up about 1/8" above the head gasket surface and several scratchs a few inches long and several thousands deep across the head surface. Needless to say, I immediately called ACHE about their head and how I received it and then called UPS to file a claim. ACHE shipped me a new head the same day so I didn't have to wait a week to return the damaged head and wait another to get the replacement.

You really don't want to know what UPS did with my step-sister last month. You read that right, did with.

Well, since you asked. My step-sister passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly back on December 19th in Aurora, CO (where my dad, until he passed just this last Tuesday at age 80, and step-mom live) at age 43. Per her previous directives, she was an organ donor and then wished to be cremated and interred back here in her mom's family plot this spring when the weather warmed up. In trying to find an economical and practical way to get her back to her son's home in Omaha, my dad and step-mom found that UPS offers courier escort delivery for cremains. Basically, a UPS employee stays with the cremains throughout transportation, from UPS signing for them, through manual sorting not automated, they stay with the driver of the semi instead of in the trailer, manual sorting on the delivery end, winding up with the cremains riding up front with the delivery driver until they are SIGNED FOR at the destination - in other words, escorted and NOT leaving the sight of a UPS employee the ENTIRE way. So, imagine the reaction of my step-nephew, AND step-mom when she found out, when he comes home from work to find his mother's cremains sitting in a box on his neighbor's front porch! The dumb-ass driver didn't follow protocol and left it sitting there for hours when nobody answered the door to sign for them, instead of returning them back to the Omaha UPS depot where they would have contacted my step-nephew and arranged for a delivery when someone would be home. Who knows what was going through the driver's mind, may have thought it was just another Christmas gift package, but the box WAS specifically marked as escorted human remains delivery.

So my step-mom has had to deal with this with her daughter's passing, then my father passing, in a three week span.

My apologies feeling like a smart A$$ and stepping out to run my mouth comes back to haunt me one more time. Sorry to hear this.

It's alright, you couldn't have known. We're doing the same thing to get dad's cremains back here to Lincoln, except there WILL be someone who's home during weekdays, my mom, to sign for dad's cremains. When my sister suggested this to our step-mom, she wasn't too wild about the idea, but after further thought, came to the conclusion that it did make a lot of sense from many standpoints. So my mom, divorced 30 years from my dad, will be receiving his cremains. Did I mention that my mom, a retired teacher, was my step-sister's teacher and that she was one of my mom's favorite students thirty years ago? Her sudden passing really hit my mom, as did dad's unexpected passing. You're all good in my book, @smokymtn65 .

That is just wrong. Imagine if some unknowing package thief took off with the cremains?

Way back in the day (37 years ago) I had another bad experience with UPS. I had purchased a used professional model tennis racket stringing machine from a private party and had it shipped via UPS (this was my source of revenue to pay for my college undergrad education). Similar to WarWagon's experience, they broke it and I had to file a claim. They paid on it, but I still shake my head at the gorilla attitude of their employees. I am convinced this is the direct result of angry union workers.

Replacement pump is now on the way via FedEx. UPS paid the claim after picking up the ruined pump and shipping box.

Excellent. You must have really fired up an "s" storm over there. I follow Conestoga on Facebook and they have posted multiple times regarding packaging the pumps in the last couple weeks - both people sending pumps to them and the way that they ship their pumps.

@Husker6.5 Sorry for your loss. @smokymtn65 asked about the same question I would have. Thanks for sharing. It makes destroyed auto parts look trivial. "Dad" is one reason we keep Patch around as it's likely the last father son project due to Agent Orange severe health affects from Vietnam. He is thankful for every day on this side of the grass, but, sometimes the constant pain and suffering tests the limits of wanting to be.

Ok WW......keeping us in suspense was cute for the first week, mildly annoying the second week, but now in the third week it’s just rude. :p:p:p We need an update on this!!
