Hard Cold Start

Well didn't make any difference this morning. So I guess I'll try Bison's suggestion of clear tubing on the return line and see if I'm getting any air. I have a fuel pressure gauge on the t fitting and I noticed that the initial fuel pump prime only took it up to about 3 psi. I was actually suprised when I put the guage on I had about 5psi at idle and couldn't get it to go under 2 1/4 psi even at sustained wide open throttle. Pump is about a year old and I've never had one last more than a year.

Is the missing feeling during crank or after it actually gets going?

Do the regulating ones take longer to glow? Is that why many people end up installing manual override, because the normal 10 seconds isnt usually enough to heat them up enough in the cold? If even 10 seconds was enough, what purpose would override serve?

Had you jumped the truck at all with the glows in?

In this pic, I guess a normal stock 11G looks like yours after 10 seconds, but the instant heat ones should be like has been said.

If it's taking 10 sec and only tips are lit, I'd be looking at new glows, those look a little weak should take only 4 sec or so to glow to middle

Those are my old glow plugs I just put in new duraterms. Maybe I ought to pull one out and try the test with the duraterm.

My Duraterms heat halfway in 5 sec.

Pull a couple easy ones for reference

Here's one of my duraterms after 10 secs. Hey Bison do you remember what size of tubing is on IP return line?

I think 1/4" will do.I got no clamps on it either.

My duraterms are red 3/4 of the lenght after 10 sec(tested on the batt).I use at least 10 sec glow bypass in the winter before turning te key on.

Well I finally got my TDCO set. I had to move my pump approxiamately 2mm towards the drivers side. I had it set at -1.94 but when I rechecked it after tightening the nuts it was at -1.85. Close enough! Even with my special wrench that I ordered I had to highly modify it. So I guess I'll see tomorrow morning how it affects my cold starts.

Well no air in the lines so far. I'll check it again in the morning before I start it. I'm actually starting to think IP. Had some fish bite at about 50 mph and it's worse since I adjusted the timing. Also had my batts load tested and they checked out. Any other ideas?

You had better patent that wrench:D

Leo

You can't see it very good from the pic but it also has about an 1 1/2" offset also. I used it on all 3 nuts the gear wrench with the flipper for changing direction was a great idea. Only have to get it on the nut one time to loosen and once to tighten.

Well I think the problem is solved. It appears to be the CTS. I was under the impression that if you unplegged it that it would merely increase the glow time based on temp default of -40. But I talked with Todd at Heath and he said that it also affects the cold start advance. I unplugged it and she fired right off no stumbling. I immediately shut it down and plugged it back in and same old problem. Unplugged it again and again it fired right up no stumbling. So I guess I owe Buddy and apology for not trying that when he suggested it. So it seems thatthe dead pedal stubling issue is a timing issue either in IP timing or a CTS. On a side note on an earlier thread someone was talking about fishbite and the consensus seemed to be that OBD11 didn't have an optical filter harness as it was built into the puter. Mine has/had one that's the very first thing he had me look for and take off. He said alot of the OBD11s have them.
