Everything is hanging in that pic. I have the wheelwell removed. I did use a starter blanket around the wiring harness coming down to the starter and glows. The shields are missing.

Truck runs beautiful...except for the blowby coming out of the breathers....:mad2:
If it fails emissions today...It gets cut up for parts. Talked to PO last night, it had shifting issues before the motor went so I don't think it's the clutch. Pedal feels alot better. Tranny's gonna be nice in my CUCV..I'm so pissed. It runs so good. Right after I changed the oil it got a nasty smell and blowby coming out of the dipstick and fill cap. CDR is working properly. Also the boost is low. I can't get over 10 lbs with the TM cranked up real tight but the crossover is leaking. I have to have a new one made. My 8.3 Cummins used to do that after an oil change. the oil would stink for awhile and smoke out the breathers. The truck has very little crankcase pressure and everything else seems fine. I may try 40w Pennzoil and see if that helps.

How stringent of an emission test can they hold you to on a 93? Only emission device they had was the CDR back then on that truck.

Just a smoke test. Snap the throttle wide open and hold it on the rev limiter for 10 sec. Yes, you can fail this badly...

The only thing I could find was Opacity. The limit was 20%. The truck blew 3.1% . Not too shabby for a wrung out old whore. It has alot of blowby.

So PO told me he thinks the spider gears are bad in the rear diff. it makes sqeauling noise with the tires when making turns. Took the diff apart to find it in perfect condition, it has one of those factory lockers.

Is the correct limited slip additive in the rear dif? If not it'll chatter and can grab, or it won't work at all.

Odds are you'll find your issue within the trans somewheres. NV4500's murder their synchros over time.

The trans has issues but that would not cause the wheels to chirp. Probably had the wrong gear oil. I bought the limited slip stuff. Those Diffs are junk anyway. Only a matter of time before it commits :suicide: . Then I'll get a "real" Detroit Locker.
Anyone know if the steering column from an 88(GMT400) will fit this truck ? The junk yard said no, that only 93-94 were the same but it looked right to me unless the wiring is different. I got a tilt column and it's worn out and sloppier than Paris Hilton. Gonna try to tighten it up but this one is pretty loose. Maybe junk.

I have the column from a 93 in my 88 IIRC. It's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since i installed it, so I may be wrong.

If anything the switches may differ but the column will bolt in. you can swap any of the switches out if you need to i'm sure.

That's kinda what I thought although the column he had there was rotted under the hood. The truck looked horrible. I may opt to find a non tilt column anyway. I hate tilt columns in a lifted truck. Bad idea...

Mine's a tilt column, they are fine if you don't use them to lift you in the truck is all.
The answer is in the question. That's the problem, Mine is a lifted truck and I end up grabbing it to pull my fat ass up in it even though I try to remember not to. Gonna look for a straight column. This thing is mangled. I got it somewhat better by tightening the two blots I could get to but the top two look like the only way to get to them is to yank the column out and pull it completely apart and if I gotta go that far, I'd rather have another one sitting there. It's much better than it was. The hunt for a new one begins. Just put the diff back together. it had .008 of backlash which is the limit so I left it be. I don't know what I'm gonna do with this thing yet. Motor has alot of blowby. Tranny needs synchros. I may just use it for the summer while I restore the CUCV then dump it in the fall. Then again I change my mind alot...:D

Yes, you do change your mind alot.

I forget, was there any rust on the body? IMO if it's clean I'd run it awhile, maybe rebuild the trans (they aren't that hard being a top loader manual). Also, a straight column will also wear out (in other ways) from using it to get in the truck.

Body and frame clean. If it wasn't I'd a torched it by now. That is the only thing good about working on it, everything comes apart. The fuel lines are not even rusted. Thing has major electrical problems. The charge gauge reads like 18v but i tested and she's putting out 14. The temp says 210 but I don't think it's running that hot. Speedo no worky, Fuel Gauge no worky. Lots of butchered spaghetti everywhere. I hate Spaghetti in trucks...Not sure where to begin with the speedo but I really need that fixed. I felt around on top of the fuel tank and think the wire is broken. The lift makes the truck very easy to work on. You would appreciate that 88, I can take my oil pan off in 10 mins.
