Everything is hanging in that pic. I have the wheelwell removed. I did use a starter blanket around the wiring harness coming down to the starter and glows. The shields are missing.

How stringent of an emission test can they hold you to on a 93? Only emission device they had was the CDR back then on that truck.
The only thing I could find was Opacity. The limit was 20%. The truck blew 3.1% . Not too shabby for a wrung out old whore. It has alot of blowby.
So PO told me he thinks the spider gears are bad in the rear diff. it makes sqeauling noise with the tires when making turns. Took the diff apart to find it in perfect condition, it has one of those factory lockers.
The answer is in the question. That's the problem, Mine is a lifted truck and I end up grabbing it to pull my fat ass up in it even though I try to remember not to. Gonna look for a straight column. This thing is mangled. I got it somewhat better by tightening the two blots I could get to but the top two look like the only way to get to them is to yank the column out and pull it completely apart and if I gotta go that far, I'd rather have another one sitting there. It's much better than it was. The hunt for a new one begins. Just put the diff back together. it had .008 of backlash which is the limit so I left it be. I don't know what I'm gonna do with this thing yet. Motor has alot of blowby. Tranny needs synchros. I may just use it for the summer while I restore the CUCV then dump it in the fall. Then again I change my mind alot...Mine's a tilt column, they are fine if you don't use them to lift you in the truck is all.
You should work on my 88. I bet it's even easier with a solid axle, there is literally nothing near the underside of the motor. The lift makes the truck very easy to work on. You would appreciate that 88, I can take my oil pan off in 10 mins.
