Dyno results and discussion

we will check it out there, but as for going, not likely...LOL... we need to find a dyno here, there are dynos, but just for ricers.... we need a truck dyno... i think there is one coming up soon just outside of ottawa.....

Sorry. I thought you were looking for a dyno for 6.2turbo. My bad

I would rather be fairly close to home. I don't feel it's ready for a dyno run,but maybe I should before it blows up again.

I know there are several good builds going on now but they aren't done yet, mine is one of them, but it will not be ready for a roller till late summer or the fall. If 6.2 wants to run his go for it. I will run mine later when all is ready with the new build.

Yours (DB2833), is also one it is going to be very interesting to see on the dyno. We are really still hoping to see a dozen guys pass the rollers this year, with all their results posted up. Still waiting for Mike to come on (another to see with his DB4831), as he is the last contributor to have his say. I think 6.2turbo summed it up, as it is now or never with his build. Would have loved to see the 6.2 (truck in video) pass on the rollers, but it turned main bearings. Of all the 6.2/6.5L trucks we have followed over the years, he is achieving the highest boost #'s, and has done some incredible mods to the DB2 pumps.

We really think his will be a good start for this thread, then we will recontribute and someone can pick another truck (or 6.2/6.5L car), to make a pass. For us, we figure at $20.00/month, it will be good information/entertainment.....LOL.

looks like its going to be a busy year on the dyno with 6.5's with different builds. Some built for towing, some max performance, and others experimental. Once my next paycheck arrives i'm in for a donation.

Thanks Red, when you are ready, check here.....http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?33899-Dyno-Fund

For anyone that would like to donate, see the above link, or send a pm to "ak diesel driver"....

All them dudes in Washington and Ottawa could learn from this group.....LOL. So it seems that for our first dyno run (from the dyno fund), 6.2turbo is cleared to go. I will send him a pm and get him to come on. Thanks guys, this will be interesting....:)

PM sent......:drama:

Thanks so much ! I'll see what I can do about getting an appointment.

+1 for 6.2 turbo getting on the dyno

His build threads are awesome, and i would love to know the power put out before it blows up :hihi:

Too late guys.....6.2turbo has re-opened the Tahoe motor blew up thread:eek:

We need some discussion here, do we choose another (ideas needed), or wait for 6.2turbo to get his motor re-assembled. We can always bring 6.2turbo's build back in when he has it up and running again.
This will allow us to get our first on the rollers. We plan to re-up as soon as first is across and posted. No idea at all of this being a one time thing for us. All suggestions and ideas are welcomed, final decision will be made by the contributors. We have almost enough now for two trucks, so keep contributions coming.....J&J.

All I can say is that Y'all do what ever the voters vote for, I am taking my time with my build, coating everything and specing every piece, and balancing it, My build will not me done till the fall so I am not going to be considered for a run on the rollers anytime soon, I don't even know if I would care to or not?? I haven't started a build thread yet because I don't want it to be a long thread, I am taking pics and notes as I go and will start a thread later.

I have a tendency to be somewhat anal about building a motor so it takes me a while. I can say that the block cement is curing now and my JK pistons are on the way to me now, next will be the balance shop then machining the block, I have the heads finishes ported and just waiting to have everything ready and start the coating when everything is done and ready so I only need to fire up the oven once or twice, I am coating everything from the oil pan up so it is going to take me a week just to do the coating, then the thread might start.

I'm not building a big HP motor like 6.2 is tiring to do, I want mine to be a little of everything and last me a long time ...LOL

OH, one more thing, when my JK pistons get here, I will have a set on std 6.5 GEP pistons from the motor for sale, they look like they only have 5 - 10,000 miles on them, I'm going to clean and coat them so they will have the ceramic & dry film lube on them, They will be in the sale section later with before & after pics also....

As for picking another, feel free to do what ever the people want, I will go with it....

My question for the dyno runs, never having done or seen one, is how much stress is on the motor meaning, how long should one wait to run a rebuilt engine?

Would the consensus be to get a base line from a near stock / OEM motor first (GM-X turbo, Factory Tune, under 150K miles, exhaust upgrades) or just start accumulating data that is quantified by 'well this truck is equipped with such and such so your results will vary?"

I don't know here, I think everyone is just looking for the biggest RW power with what ever mods??

I have been involved in many dyno runs with the race shops here, but they were all motor only dyno's for race tuning.

I would think that a broke in street motor would be best, unless it was broke in on a dyno like said above, it isn't cheap to run a motor dyno in these shops here, they are all high end motor shops and even tho I do coating for them, they wouldn't do it for me for cheap....

what would be ideal is to dyno after every part change to see what each item adds. but then there's also diff combos of parts so it adds up real fast. me personally I would put it on the rollers after 2-3k of varied driving.

A ideal thing would be a set of 3 runs with a stock motor set up, then a rebuild of the same motor, maxed out with your changes, a complete list of changes then another set of runs on the same dyno.

Well, I'm not rebuilding the same motor and with 210K on this one I think I'm out for the 'Base Line.' Still haven't followed up with the dyno shops around here to see if they can fit a truck on their rollers or not.

I will run the new motor after break in, both with the mathematical, the Palmer Performance software and on a dyno. At least it will give a comparison on the various methods.
