Diamond Eye truck and Suburban 4" exhaust turbo back w/muffler $299 shipped

Leroy, just remember a few things when dealing with UPS and Canada:

- there is NO customs fee (duty) charged by Canada! (Auto Parts are a free-trade item)
- items which can be included in brokerage include HST (Harmonized Sales Tax), currently 12% in BC, I believe. HST isn't always included in a brokerage transaction, though; it may be separately billed to the end-user.
- UPS can charge a 'reasonable' fee for completing the brokerage paperwork. (note variable definition of word 'reasonable')

That's why we hate UPS. The exact same item, with the exact same value, weight, packaging, origin/destination can be wildly variable (from 15% to 80% of item cost) in terms of what gets charged out as brokerage. UPS has no explanation for this, usually defaulting, as (Walt does at SSDiesel) to blaming the Canadian Government or Border guys, which is patently false.

If you can get UPS to declare that entire amount up-front, and not send another bill to BJ later, then you've found a good way of going about this.

Just emailed BJ with this info.

UPS ground my May 5th is $150 for shipping. You pay fees.

UPS expidited by Apr 30 $360

UPS saver $415 by Apr 29

Jim, not sure I understand what you said "If you can get UPS to declare that entire amount up-front, and not send another bill to BJ later, then you've found a good way of going about this."
Besides the amount of $ for the exhaust what else?

These quotes are all for shipping only. This is what they charge me. I do not mark it up.

I believe that you just pass on costs, and we appreciate that, Leroy.

But UPS makes up their own fees, as you can see from the list that BJ posted. On a given item, they may decide to select between none and all of those fees and apply them, calling it 'brokerage'. For all I know, the agent also gets to add in random numbers at will.

- I've gotten packages from UPS before that looked like the fees were all prepaid, then gotten a bill later with more fees listed.
- As I said, I've ordered 2 identical items, in identical boxes, with identical origin/destination, and had to pay wildly different fees upon receipt.

Other than trying to blame the original vendor (wrong), the customs guys (wrong), or the government (wrong), they won't even TRY to explain the difference in fees.

I agree with BJ - at least with these options, he will know the fees up-front, and can decide if the deal is worth it. It sucks to find a good deal on something in the USA, but then discover that by the time it gets here, it costs more than it would to just buy it here. (my wife found that out with some sheets she ordered... forgot to check the shipping, and it came in higher than the cost of the linens. The vendor tried to blame that one on USPS. Wrong. Just another place we'll never deal with again.)

Right back to thinking UPS is a bunch of crooks......:banghead:

We have ordered quite a bit of "stuff" from the USA over the last few years. For the most part we have the items shipped to a parcel depot in Neche, ND, which is about 50 miles away. We know a number of people that can pick up the stuff for us, and it works out fine. Often with no shipping costs. But heaven forbid we want something delivered to our door. The only shipping method we will use when we want it delivered directly is USPS. UPS, FedEx and the rest only "rape" us poor Canadians with the extra fees (call them what you want, brokerage etc.) For instance, we just remodeled our kitchen, but miscounted the number of door handles. We were 5 short and thought we would have them shipped direct. So, for about $25.00 worth of door handles, UPS wanted over $60.00 total to deliver them. We decided to send them to Neche, ND.... No shipping costs. But a bit of a pain in the a$$.

So yes, UPS, FedEx and the rest are a a "bunch of crooks" IMO. All I can really think is that it is an easy way to inflate their profit margin. They just simply piss me off.

If we need something delivered right to our door, USPS is the only way to go. To all our vendors out there, please use USPS whenever you can. I don't know for sure how the NAFTA thing works, but do know that if it made in the USA, it is supposed to be customs free. Perhaps the shipment just needs a "Made in the USA" sticker. I'm not sure.

Maybe we need a separate thread on how these shipping companies rape us Canadians. Sometime you would think we live on a different continent. Especially in this day and age. And for that matter, I don't think it would be any different to Mexico or overseas.

While I didn't end up ordering an exhaust from Leroy, I would like to point out that he did an outstanding job tracking down shipping options and prices for me.

Extra effort was definitely put into the attempt to make a fair and honest sale.

Very much appreciated and I would highly recommend him based of his diligence on that matter alone.

Unfortunately, it just wasn't in the cards for us to do business due to "scales of economy"......

I felt the same way about doing business with Bill and a few others, BJ.

And it's important to emphasize the amazing work that Leroy, Patrick, Bruce, Marty, Nick, Henry, Ashton, Greg and all of our other vendors do for us; if you live in the USA, or if the parts can be shipped USPS, there just isn't a better bunch of guys to deal with. Really!

In the end, for parts that can't be sent through the mail, it's cheaper for us to drive down across the line and have the work done than it is to order the parts here and do it yourself.

That's a sad comment.

I bumed it did'int work out. Thanks for the kind words. I do ship everything usps from here. The exhaust is alittle different because they are drop shipped. It would not make since to ship it here and then reship elsewhere. Besides usps I don't think would take it anyway because of size and weight??
Well I would still like to help anyone else that may need an exhaust, just let me know.
Leroy

the weight is fine there is one section that is too long. a sawsall along with an index mark would make it easy. I don't deal with brokerage fees but it usually cost 2-3x more than ups for equal weight

Well that could be do'able. I will check into it when I get mine.
On a side note Barry got his system today!! Ordered after me and got it before me! WTH! 6.5 gods must be helping him get some of his fleet running.

Pics of the Diamondeye System

As Leroy said, I got my Diamondeye system Today:thumbsup:. The polished 5" tip also came today on the UPS truck. The differences in this system and the previous 2 that I bought is that the muffler is no longer highly polished stainless. It is stainless steel though. Just can't use it for a mirror:mad2::rolleyes5: It also didn't come with a free baseball cap as 1 of the other's did.:( They also come with a sticker that is pictured on top of the muffler. Another thing worth mentioning is that the instructions are very good and easy to follow. Now if I could just stay working on the truck it's going in.

I get mine tomorrow. Looks like enough pipe for two trucks! I was hopeing for the polished muffler too.

I can pretty much get a system for any truck Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Nissan, Toyota.....(price might be different)

Got my exhaust a few days ago. The stainless tip is very high quality as is the rest of the exhaust. It looks so huge in the box!!
It does not look like any pieces could be cut down as AK suggested. All the pipes are very close to same length.
I'll get more pictures of the install planed for tomorrow.

I also ordered a system for my Titan truck, can't wait for that one.

Just as a testimonial, I'd like to say I put a Diamondeye 4 inch on my 97 dually a couple years back. I heard some good things about it, but the price was the deciding factor. Paid $295 shipped from some shop on ebay. I found it to be very easy to install, and as for the sound? I simply cannot say enough about how awesome it sounds. It sounds like a big tough V8 is supposed to, without being too loud or droning. I don't like real loud exhaust, but I want it to be known that there is something under the hood that means business. I had a Banks 3.5 inch system on there before, the muffler rotted out first so I put in a piece of test pipe and it sounded really nasty, it had a bark to it and was pretty mean. Maybe just a little too raw, but I liked it anyway. I really wanted to leave out the muffler on the DE, but I was afraid it would be louder than the Banks, and if anyone looked under the truck they could see it wasn't legal. So what I did was put the straight-thru muffler on backwards, so the little louvers wouldn't do anything. My only regret was that I could only really hear it when it was warm enough to keep the passenger window down, or when I let someone else drive it. It did sound pretty awesome under WOT when it was passing me in my 454 truck. Yes, it passed the 454. Didn't think it would, but it walked it like a dog.
I wish it had come with a bung for the EGT gauge. My Banks system came with one, I threw it away before realizing I couldn't hook the gauge up. Ordered a new one from Banks (sent it to me free, even after several years had passed), but it didn't seem to be the right one for the gauge. So, it never got hooked up again. Don't have a gauge yet for the Suburban, but hopefully when I get one it will come with a bung.
I do want one for my Suburban, and I will definitely be buying a DE again, so I'll order it from Burning Oil to keep it in the family. Unfortunately it's been back-burnered due to financial ruin.
