I was on the phone with customer service at Dipaco today about other things and thought to ask them about the pmd failure-runaway. They definitely know about it and know the serial numbers of the ones that could fail. They told me that if you had one that failed to call them and if it is in their determined bad lot they will warranty it. The phone number for customer service at dipaco is:775-329-7511 The guy I talked to is Kieth . his extension is 116
The problem is supposed to be fixed in any new pmd/fsd from them.

Ha, I got 3 dead ones. Wonder if any of them are in the lot ? Seems there is no good ones anymore. The new Grey ones are supposed to be crap too and the black ones can't be bought anymore.

Keith was telling me it takes a while for the parts to get through the supply chain. The bad ones were built well over a year ago. They obviously didn't do a recall, but as stated will warranty if it's from the bad batch.

Hmm so they know they have an issue with a batch and will replace it if it fails but are not willing to just publish serial numbers and recall them. Having suffered a runaway failure myself (with a stanadyne) you'd kind of hope that in knowing all this they would get them out of the system.

Now there's customer service for ya.
Cheers

I still have one from 4 years ago going strong. But I do have a new one in a box I could call about. They should man up and post numbers. Although thats more cost to them and 90% of that lot may never fail that way.

:DEdam still sells good tested black Stanadynes:yikes::yikes::yikes:

I have not heard a single bad report about the new grey PMD's except for the one Greg got. Aces posts everytime about how bad they are, but I have not seen or heard of any major problems with them.

You guys might find this interesting. Edam used to buy all his cables from me before he started selling the Chinese cable. Im pretty sure he sent my cable over to China and had them copy it, but with inferior matierial. When I started offering the Chinese cable to but at $17 on ebay he contacted me and asked if I would raise my price to $25. I thought want an ASS and reported him to ebay for price fixing. I bet ebay won't do anything about it though.
Has anyone up north actually met the guy?

Tim from Accurate diesel told me he practically begs people not to buy them because the failure rate he is seeing as a re builder is averaging 10-13 months. He also told me about the issue with the Flight Systems and supposedly they corrected it. BTW the Flight Systems one I bought from you is less than a year old and I used your heat sink and cable and it's acting up. It's got the D Tech stutter. My old 2000 GMC had a Heath one that failed in 2 yrs. I don't think any of them are any good, just seems the old black ones are the best of a bad design.

You might've the Clint Eastwood syndrome..."sometimes Trouble follows a man" :hihi:

Aces is the ace in testing PMD!!! If in doubt, send it to him and he will test it for you. Either that or his trucks are the good tester. LOL!!!

I always found problem in software.

Flight Systems (FS) was very good until about 8-9 months ago then had a huge rash of problems, not sure if its fixed yet, I hope so. Anyway when Im back in the USA send back your PMD for warranty.
As much as I want to sell FS I just won't until its confirmed they are fixed. Stanadyne (as we all know) has know about the problem for years and only came out with the grey because FS was eating their market. Even GM uses FS now. That must have stung alittle

Lets face it whichever brand, they are what they are, a poor early electronic injection design. There is no doubt only so far that you can build the better mousetrap.

What pisses me off is when a company seeks to redesign and make the better mousetrap and market as such. Then they knowingly basically keep quite about a known bad batch falling back on the we'll replace it once it failed routine for free. If they were supposedly building the better mousetrap then they would exhibit good customer service and recall them if it is in fact true that they have a known serial number run with a defective component in it.

I still can't figure out why they can't build a bulletproof one. even if it cost more it would be worth it. design wise they don't need to fit on the pumps so they could be as large as needed.

Exactly my thoughts.....shoot even if you could build it yourself... triple the size... with a home made solder kit, it would probably be better and cheaper than most of them...

It doesnt need to be the size of a Pump Mounted Driver anymore...
at least not in the aftermarket life.

That is my whole gripe. They seem to be getting worse with each new version not better. I can't understand how something not so complex could be so difficult to improve on. That part escapes me but it's making me want to spring for the Compushift if I could find some reliable feedback on them. While Leroy is reporting the Grey seem to be ok so far others are saying they suck and at 250$ a pop this is getting ridiculous. Then I get in Jared 93 or my CUCV and see how flawlessly it runs and really wanna beat this stupid DS4 and PMD to death with a 20lb sledge o matic.
