D-Tech,Dipaco, Flight Systems PMD failure-run away

OK so the only real fix is a DB2/NV4500 conversion....:D

You can also convert your auto to full manual valve body with the Transgo kit for about $200. Personally if I had the choice between stick trans or full manual auto I would take the auto. Less time, and money, easier on my left knee too. Will still work when the end of the world comes with that big EMP and we are all running around looking for "go juice" like in Mad Max.

Ha...Watch "The Book of Eli".....
I thought about a manual VB. In the end I think I will either find a 93 or switch back to a Cummins. Gettin tired of fixin the same thing.

Have not seen that one. Is it a dooms day movie? I want to do a 4bt some day, close to 30mpg in a full size truck ain't bad.

I'll see if its on in the plane ride home. I need to finish up True Grit, they interrupted me last time. They said they had to land the airplane or something like that <(;-)

The ba$tards:hihi:

I'm looking forward to seeing that movie.

my bread van with 4bt only gets 17mpg (which I thought was good) I wonder what they're doing to get 30. mine is pretty long 16' behind the seat

Thats the reports I have heard. I would guess aerodynamics, weight, gearing. My brother has a 4bt that is going in a 4x4 burban sometime. I won't do another 4x4 conversion, but 2wd is easy.
I would like to put a 4bt in a 70-72 ElCamino also.

Just posting this for everyone's information. Today Devin (83GMCK2500) and I went up to Brandon's (07HDclassic) junkyard to pilfer parts. Anyway, the yard bought a non-running 96 K2500 6.5L 4L80E truck. They haven't had time to diagnose anything on it yet as they just got it. The PO told them it was the IP. Just to be thorough, Devin and I plugged the black Stanadyne PMD from it into my 99.

Black stanadyne PMD runaway. No joke. Started the 99, instant rev....

you guys should see the new thread over at the place supposedly by a designer of the "new" pmd. he says it is noise that kills them at a certain frequnency more than heat does.

I think he means electronic noise, however that is coined. Meaning the designer.

Thats pretty cool, and pretty much why I had been thinking of designing an isolation circuit for the PMD.

It could be BS, but they claim the lack of grounding on the sink surface and those thermal pads was causing issues. However the person says that you cannot ground the sink because the transistors collectors' are electrically connected. the transistor collector is tied to its case, but I have to believe its electrically separated from the sink. It doesnt make sense to push the power for the fuel solenoid through the entire sink, especially when it doesnt say anything about risks to placing the PMD on metal.

I just checked the spare PMD I have and it the transistors are isolated from the sink. The annodized coating does prevent electical continuity for the most part, but in the screw holes it is not perfect and there is some electrical continuity from screw hole to screw hole. I scratched off some of the annodized coating and still couldnt get continuity to the transistor. It could be that they were concerned about the internal isolation of the transistors failing and didnt want the fuel solenoid power going straight to ground, which would kill the PMD outright. I would be more interested to see an entire schematic of the PMD to see if anything else is tied to the sink.

Perhaps the best mousetrap is yet to be built.
