a 5.7 1500 will have a 4l60 (aka not worth the metal its made of )
the 6.5 will always have a 4l80
that would make my decision in seconds.

Camping without the .45? He does not have to "think" I am bringing a gun, he should assume.
The reason I took the vortec out of my 97 truck was because it was a gas hog,10-11 around town and 14 highway. Also the vortecs have there own problems like wet dist caps and leaking intake gaskets, and then the rod bearings go ,also a few of them will stick the exhaust valves on a long pull,I just repaired one that must have stuck open to long, since it was bent, there is a tsb on the valve issue. It seems some suburbans with the vortec 350 are geared too high, they don't run like the trucks and tahoes. I was looking for a Diesel burb but they are hard to find in our area,so we bought a tahoe for $900 which is going to get a 6.5. Fuel pumps go bad all the time also for the vortecs, especialy the plastic canister type.

I thought of that, but I don't like exhaust sound of a 4cyl,plus the harmonics are also bad,if I'm doing Cummins swap it would be a 5.9,for now its just going to be a 6.5.Have you considered a 4bt or a mitsubishi or Isuzu in the Tahoe?
That was a project I always wanted to do. Several years away from that now, if ever.

About the same our 97 4x4 gasser Suburban was. The 1989 throttle body 350 we had did much better.
Well, we had a great time camping. It was a long car ride for the boys, but all in all they did well. We went to this little aquarium in crescent city and they got to pet a shark! Liam (my 2 year old) has not been feeling well and got sick on the way home. That was unfun.
The truck did not come home with us. The seller was supposed to meet me at my campsite friday evening but he was a no-show. When I got into cell phone range sat morning, I had two messages from him. The rebuilt transmission had some issues with overdrive. It is getting fixed under warranty and he offered to drive it to my place. I went and checked the suburban out and it was not as advertised. The windshield was cracked, antenna broken off at the base, replaced door not aligned properly, inside was a complete mess with badly torn front seats and a broken radio. Also the tranny work was/is done by a local to him shop, so the warranty had no value to me. I told him the best I could do was $3000 cash, no car, he drives it to my place and I get to cold start it and drive it before anything. He declined. At least I got to spend time with my boys.
To bad you live across the country, there is a sharp looking 6.5 burb near me at a car lot. I never stopped but it looks like a million dollars from the road.
If you get a chance could you check out that 6.5 burb? I'm always looking.
Thanks
I just found the car lots website and they dont have it listed. The next time I drive by Ill see if they still have it.
Could you post a link to thier website?
That way anybody interested could give them a call.
Thanks
Jeff
Yeah, I am going to keep my search semi-local (5-6 hours driving time max). I will consider something further from a trusted forum member.
I really need to get on the ball and get something. 6 weeks until our due date and needing a vehicle that fits three car seats. Of course things can happen earlier or later.
I have been thinking of getting a gasser. Not many diesel subs out there to choose from.
Driving home, we saw a '99 5.7l sub for sale. I stopped and looked and it is a clean inside and out. It has a 150K, seller says it runs good (heard that before. It is close (about 45 mins) and I may go look at it today. He wants $3400.
