88GMCtruck's 98 Silverado Towpig Build: "Black Fox"

Finally got the front bed brace fixed.

Warning to NEVER mount a slide in camper using the front bed sheetmetal brackets. All the weight ripped most of the spot welds on the front and a few of the 2nd back brace from the bedfloor, and ripped the nuts out of the actual front brace.

Here is what was ripped out. The one piece was flat. I removed the captive nut for re-use.

And the fix. Welded flat bar spanning the ripped out metal. It'll get a better weld when the fuel pump is replaced.

And these showed up last night, after 3 weeks....... Should look right at home with some chrome lug covers.

Rest of the parts to put this sucker on should be there when I get home!

Few other projects...
Stall mats. 4'x6'x3/4" each, cut to fit.
IMAG0125.jpg

Added some D-rings to the bed down low. Mostly for cargo net and lighter tie down. The front and rear pairs are much more structural than the 2nd row, although all are through the sheetmetal. Used large fender washers behind them though.

Whats this?
IMAG0172.jpg

Awwww yeah! Parts!
IMAG0173-1.jpg

Got everything installed. Need a better picture still in daylight.
IMAG0174-1.jpg

Ordered these lug covers, compliments the subtle chrome accents nicely.
IMAG0175-1.jpg

Unfortunately they are for GMT800 wheels and the threads aren't deep enough inside so they don't hold the caps tight. Using the black covers for now.
IMAG0176.jpg

These are a bit euro looking aren't they?
IMAG0180.jpg

That's better :D
IMAG0182.jpg

Haven't been home during the day to get pictures of any of this stuff, been busy to go camping. I'll get some better pictures this weekend. But here is how you fit 3 quads in a 8' bed.
IMAG0177.jpg

Which headlights and corner lights did you go with in the latest setup? Same with the smoked cab lights. Where'd you get them? There are so many options that it's easy to get overwhelmed when looking.

Here is the truck all loaded up before leaving. 3 quads, a ton of firewood. Just say on the overloads so I put 40PSI in the bags once the trailer was on the hitch.

The first time the 88 has been next to it's younger brother.

Everything all loaded.
IMAG0192.jpg

Truck ended up getting about 7.2 MPG on the trip there and 7.6 MPG on the way back - mind you this climbing 1 pass and 3 summits. Lots of up and down. I usually push my truck and try to keep the speedlimit too.

Camp!

This trip was particularly enjoyable. Went with some people I've never camped with before, some newer friends and some of the regulars.

Did a little tinkering tonight.

GM Accessory sill protectors.

NOS 88-91 tailgate emblems?
IMAG0369.jpg

Weathertech molded mud guards. Got the rear set for $30 shipped, fronts for $35 shipped.

Oh... Blacking things out again.
IMAG0370.jpg

Oh yeah. My favorite tailgate emblem style on these trucks.

are the sill protectors still available, if so, whats the PN, and if you dont mind me asking, how much?

trucks looking good!

I noticed the 2014 GMCs went to a similar location for the GMC emblem, I agree, that spot looks the best.

Protectors aren't available from GM anymore, but Lund makes a similar set under the deflectashield name. I have them in my 88 also.

Sent from 454 cubic inches of iron
