6.5TD coughing and stalling ?!?!?!?!?!?

Been running reflashed since 2002 reflashed, no issues whatsoever, properlytuned reprogram will not put your engine at risk, early Hypertech for 6.5s did that, Heath is so safe in it's programming you can run gaugeless, that is way my burb is right now reflashed-4" exhaust, and TM only mods to it, very safe, the truck is good for 18K# towing if need be never over 1000F EGT, so long as cooling system is in good shape, turbo is in good shape, and injectors are in good shape you would be safe to run reflashed.

Hows the pep ?
dose it get up and go when empty ?

I'm don't really drive fast very often and i go slow and easy when i'm towing.
Everynow and then pulling into hi way traffic at 60mph is just to boring and i like to hit the on ramp and lay the hammer down every now and then.
So i don't need much nor do i need it often but when i want it i'd like to have it. . . you know ?

Mike

The reflashes are great, and from what I have observed, you can get a max fuel rate bump from 60mm3 to 80mm3, and idle IP timing bumped up from about 3.5* to 8* which helps a lot off the line. then it modifies the boost schedule, but if you get a manual wastegate then that will only help to prevent codes.

So this is way different than your T/A, youre not competing/conflicting with the real ECM, because the "chip" on the 94-95 is the brains of the ECM, so youre replacing the whole thing.

The 305TPI to 350TBI switch over was done with a 305 TBI T/A computer which is why car ran great but seemed a bit sluggish. Me in stalling a 350TBI chip into a 305TBI ECM is what goofed the ECM up. I was not told it had a 305TBI ECM. for me to make the car operate again they had to take another 305TBI T/A ECM delete the engine info and reupload it with the 350TBI info.

The 350TBI to 406TBI. this system run on its own ECM which also operates the transmission.

Ok so none of this we be the same as that mess above ?

Mike

Me in stalling a 350TBI chip into a 305TBI ECM is what goofed the ECM up.

Then the chip was not the issue....the uneducated installer was :nono:

This is why when you order a chip from Heath he has a barrage of questions for you....this way you get the right chip in the right truck.....

Read my detailed fuel pump thread that i just bumped up for update. Gives good indication of what fuel pressure should be, and symptoms of when it drops down. (These trucks will run fine with little fuel pressure for a long time without you knowing it, unless you really need it)

Doesn't mean its ok for the rig, just wont let you know of problem until you are towing heavy and need all available fuel.

Dont' worry about the chip/pcm upgrade on these trucks. Heath's chips are made/programmed for YOUR VIN w/gears/tires etc. NOT anyone elses.

Iti s not a generic chip going in your truck. Its a custom one for you. Thats why they are not interchangeable and you can't buiy a used one on E-BAY.

We wouldn't steer you wrong.

sorry guys i am just a bit GUN SHY after the last Chip ordeal. When you sell a modified Vehicle do tell the new owner what parts came from what it saves lots of hassles. . .
Had i been informated of the exact Mopdificateions done ot my T/A i'm sure that whole ECM ordeal could have been avoided. . .No matter now car is currently repowered with a 406TBI powerplant and sceams great. . .
.................................................................................................................................

Now what all will i need for info on my truck /

Like a whole different truck, 6400# moving with authority empty, and ability to tow anything hooked to it.

anyhow this just sounds way to easy guys sounds like you drop a few bucks gain 4-6hp which in this heavy tank you'll never notice it. . .Polish a turd its still a turd. . . I highly doubt your going to notice a jump from 190hp to 195hp you might get lucky and get 200hp. . .But i think 90% of these power gains are in the owners mind and not in the foot feed. . .

Mike

I will tell you the same thing here as I did at thedieselgarage.com

Search for my username on a few of the major forums and you will find my 1/4 mile times from a stock chip to a 2.0 chip to an HP4 chip....that is real world data that shows the HP increases in successive tunes....I spent my own hard earned money on my truck and I shared my results with the 6.5 community....

I'm not doing the searching work for you because I could care less if you chip your truck or not...but don't come on here being a little newb telling us how things work....cause you are completely clueless.....

But you are right about *one* thing, no matter how much you polish a turd, it is still a turd....perhaps it is time for you to step up and buy a truck that will make you happy....perhaps a $70k DMAX is in order?

4-6hp???? depending on the condition of your truck you could be seeing 20-80hp increase. But you need good injectors, a healthy IP, healthy PMD with #9 resistor, 4" exhaust and decent intake.

speaking of foot feed, a chip upgrade would be increasing your max fuel input 33%, which is where the real extra power comes from. Advanced timing and boost schedule compensates to actually combust that extra fuel more efficiently.

This is probably the tamest of chip upgrades. You get a newer diesel and they change chip and get like 100hp and more.

Thats fantastic and all. . . I sure 20hp will be noticeable at a race when you can see the times change. . . I'm not looking an extra .001 or .01 as on the street you'll never notice somthing like that. . . you'll need a .1 and my might notice it. . . I don't take my truck to a race track i have an AMX and Trans am for that. . .I drive my truck to work and back home. . .I want some power boost i'll notice going up the on ramp to the highway. . .An extra 1/10th on a race track you notice that and extra 7hp on a dyno you notice that, Now the extra 7hp and the xtra .10 at the track you will not notice going up the on ramp to the high way i have proved that point a dozen times with the T/A. . .
Tearing up the on ramp without the chip felt the same as with it but at the track it ran on average .15 faster. kinda of like the throttle body spacers for the TBI's yup they give you more power but not enough to feel it. . .

The 6.5 is not on top of anyones list of performance engines out of them all its the Slug of the group. . .
Your prolly right I should pay it off and move up to a real truck. . .

It sucks having a Diesel that gets out preformed by Gasser :mad2:

Mike

Huge difference adding 20 hp to 300 on a 3500lb f-body and adding 20hp to 180 on a 7000lb non aerodynamic hovering brick. And the way the power is gained is different, youre burning 33% more fuel and you dont think youll notice it on the on ramp. youre crazy, and too much of a critic, everyone here is telling you its awesome. I also have a modded Z28 that probably rivals your TA and I have a crappy hypertech POS programmer that does nothing. This is completely different, believe me. People here are not jerking your chain. the sports car was made to be fast, already squeezing power from where it could, and these trucks were made to be like you say, low performance, but with what we are telling you it can be just as peppy as you want it to be. Youre likely to see more like 40hp gains

You just might be right but i heard all this same hype with the chipping of TA. The best 2 power gains in the TA were 3.73 gears and later adding the 406 in front of the 4L60E. . .

Now i can just imagine what dumping 33% more fuel into it is going to do to the milage. . .15mpg now becomes 10mpg. . .12mpg now becomes 8mpg. . .

Mike

33% more is just max fuel rate, only when you put your foot into it when you want that oomph youre talking about. My mileage hasnt suffered at all, and most people see mileage gains unless you accelerate fast a lot and drive like a bat out of hell all the time.

We arent a bunch of immature red light racers touting how fast our rides are.

Could of fooled me. . .

I just want to turn the key and drive it.
I'm sorry i even asked about getting more power out of it.
The truck runs and drives its just not a towing vehicle so i guess i'll only use it for towing when if there is no other options. This Rig has towed 9,000#'s tho it was NOT happy it did it i got by. I just wouldn't make it a habbit.

Mike

I'll throw this in and let it be. There is a fine line between where an engine has too much power and burns excess fuel, and being underpowered as to where its a slug. Example: vehicle A uses an inline 4 gasoline engine with X final drive and an Y tranny. It gets 25mpg's
Vehicle B uses an inline 6 gasoline engine with X final drive and Y tranny. It gets 24mpg's
Although the 4 gets 1mpg more, its suffering as the driver is having to apply more throttle to make it respond in a similar fashion as its 6 counterpart. The HP of the engine is inversly porportional to the thottle position. The more power you have, the less YOU have to depress the pedal to make it go. And vice versa as stated.

Forget the numbers. The 6.5 isn't a track vehicle. Trying to compare a diesel to a gasser is comparable to night and day. Buddy is dead on with what he says. You WILL notice a difference.

ugh. stupid gassers
