6.5TD coughing and stalling ?!?!?!?!?!?

RTV silicone, (I like the red) if you let it cure fully works, or if they don't have in stock it's a simple enough gasket to maket from sheet gasket material Long thin screwdriver to undo the PMD harness clip and needle-nose pliers, another reason to remote mount the driver a PITA when truck is dead on side of road too hot to get off the side of the IP , and major surgery on a dual stat setup

Must not have seen the photos ? trucks done its been toren down relocated and reput together. Now its just a waiting game dose the truck get to live ? or do i get Cut it in 2

It will make a very nice trailer for my Ugly Rusty 1962 GMC that has never once left me strained in the 12years I have owned it ):h:thumbsup::D

Mike

Bothing with what ? Trucks fixed as far as i can tell thanks to the help you guys gave but 4 break downs in 3months really dosen't make a guy wanna bother fixing anything else. . .

I was talking about RTV or gasket for sealing upper & lower intakeswas not talking about the RTV sealing your driver, which when mounted under hood isn't necessary

There is a gasket in there as well as the RVT i reused the old one. which was had oil on it looked like it was about to leak so i cleaned it up and RVTed it back together. just incase.
At the rate this thing keeps falling apart the RVT is more likely to out live the Truck.

1. Starter.
2. PMD/FSD.
3. Glow plugs.
4. Block heater.

I really do not want to fix anything else:mad2::nono::rolleyes5: Unless i can fix it with the torch :D  :D Not likely i'm sure i'll piss and moan about it next go around and fix it again and again.

Yep. Just like the rest of us.

Of course, you could go lay out 50 large for a Duramax. Then when IT died, you wouldn't be able to fix it...

Don't worry, be happy. Welcome aboard, Mike!

Jim

Its RTV not RVT.

Sorry for trying to help.....I'll keep that in mind for next time....

Take pics of the car crushing...

It would make a guy feel better if it was the 30 year old truck or the 40 year old maybe even the 50 year old truck instead of the 15 year old truck. . .

Mike

You'll grow very fond of your 6.5..........why do you think this and the other forums exist?

As much as you say you hate it.....you will have a change of heart.

So many have.

The newer vehicles get, the more age will show problems. With all the computer this, computer that, automatic this, automatic thats.... Older, mechanical, more reliable (more emiisions, less MPG's)

A lot of your problems preventive maintenance would have fixed, if not its just normal wear and tear.

Give that 2007 Honda 15 years and see how many of the little computer components/sensors keep going... Don't get me wrong, I think Honda make some of the best cars in the market atm, but age and 1000's of computer components don't mix well...

When My dad pulled up in his brand new c-6 vette 2 years ago, he showed me you start the car with your thumb as long as the key is in your pocket. Also very slick paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

I thought to myself 10-20 years from now when I can afford one all those little things will break... Funny how they finally went away from those flip headlights to 'normal' ones. (which looks awesome btw).

I'll miss watching the fiero's and older vette's driving down the road with one headlight up and 'winking' all the time!

The Honda my good man is an ATV and sadly it started with an oil cooler leak but honda quickly fixed it.
I had many years of trouble free use out my Relics i love those old trucks.

Yes the 6.5TD is starting to grow on me.

Mike

I can't seem to find any good cost effective way to add some pep to this thing.
But thats ok its drivable and thats all i really need. . .

Mike

Lots of ways to add pep. What is your definition of cost effective? Try advancing your timing a little, thats free, do you know what your timing is now TDCO and idle IP timing? Do you have a #9 resistor in the PMD, thats cheap. A turbomaster is only like $100, or you can make your own and a chip from Engh Motors can be had for $275, no core charge and nothing to mail back.

The gurus here know a few tricks to give your 6.5 some pep!

with out dropping $$$$ several hundered ?
No chips i refuse to run a chip after my last run in with them in my T/A very costly ordeal to straighten out. . . what was to be a $200 plug n play turned into a $1,200 Nightmare. . .and almost a week with out my cool wheels...

ahh umm hmm i haven't a Clue what you just said ?
All of those sound great if i knew what they were sept the chip i know those and will not run 1 bad exp with one so i will no longer be running such things.

The difference between your T/A and this is that in this you are replacing all of the brains, like a completely new computer, not a plug in module to fool your real computer. Its a lot better this way. And our engines dont run off as many electronics, like O2 sensors and MAFs.

Your PMD has a resistor inside the connector, you might have a #5, but you can buy a #9 resistor to increase your fuel output, by increasing the pulse width. www.Heathdiesel.com sell a manual wastegate actuator that can pep up your turbo and you can get rid of the vacuum pump and all the vacuum crap. Search on the site and people tell you how to make your own though for like $20 in parts.

If you have access to a scanner you can check your timing, it could be retarded too much. You can buy a OBD1 to USB cable for about $100 to hook to a laptop or any computer to check it as well using free software from Engh Motors website. If you buy their software with the cable you get a discount and it gives you more diagnostic capability like actually setting the TDCO.

Been running reflashed since 2002 reflashed, no issues whatsoever, properlytuned reprogram will not put your engine at risk, early Hypertech for 6.5s did that, Heath is so safe in it's programming you can run gaugeless, that is way my burb is right now reflashed-4" exhaust, and TM only mods to it, very safe, the truck is good for 18K# towing if need be never over 1000F EGT, so long as cooling system is in good shape, turbo is in good shape, and injectors are in good shape you would be safe to run reflashed.

This sounds like the repair that i had to do to my T/A put the chip car ran like heck removed the chip still ran like crap so it involved a new ECM then had to have it all rewritten or programed, than had to get a custom made chip for the custom tweak Comp than 4 days and $1,200 later shazzam it went like a son of a. while it was down i did the 3.21 to 3.73 gear swap and the had the trans gone threw. then I had to have both techs working together with the Comp tuning of it. lots of time and money i had it all done set to go that friday night. hit the ave with that beast man it really went for all of 2 or 3 months then the motor puked.

Than it become Project TBI406 GTA . . . i got the motor and Built 1 heck of a third gen sleeper. . .
