6.5L TD Motorhome repair/repower

Don't think you'll need one. If you were trying to use vac assit brake's then maybe, but just a/c don't think you'll need one.

73-87 chevy trucks with a/c had the round ball accumulators. Not sure if the 88 and up had them never seen one.

X3 on getting a reservoir of some kind. Sure, you can probably go without. I know that Mercedes used small reservoir at least through the 90's.

Seeing as the MH will pull more air through the pre-turbo intake than the typical pickup rig, maybe plumb in a line to the intake tube (with a check valve) in front of the CDR's exit as a way to lessen reliance on the pump. Or just go KISS and skip this idea.

All this talk about a tank/ball, got me thinking. I remembered seeing this in the engine bay on my motorhome.

Here's the latest.

I'm still waiting on some parts. The new undamaged transmission is here (although I haven't actually seen it), the injectors are here and the correct water pump is here.

Now I'm still waiting for a different oil pan to replace the "Frankenpan". The Moroso pan from Leroy had a design flaw and I'll let Leroy explain that one. Now I have two sources racing to see who gets a working pan to me first :).

In the mean time, while I've been gathering other small parts and pieces to make things go better, I decided to pull the stainless steel headers to have a professional welder check them over for flaws, seeing that the same welder that made the "Frankenpan" probably welded them too, using jumper cables and a coat hanger (those that weld know what I'm talking about) too, except a stainless coat hanger. My guy did find some areas that needed some attention and fixed them up (for free). He also welded in the 1/8 NPT port for my EGT probe that Peninsular was supposed to do and didn't. Now that is done I’m going to wrap them and I already purchased a turbo blanket too.

Here are some pix of the fixed up welds.

I finished the FTB mod and was supposed to finally drop my motorhome off today at the installer, but it snowed 11 inches here last night and now I'm dealing with that. So, it looks like tomorrow is the day.

What's one more day, when I've been waiting since last July to get this project going. I'm planning on taking pictures along the way to share also.

Here are some pix of the IP inlet I modified. Predrilled, drilled, buffed up and reassembled.predrilled.jpg drilled.jpg buffed.jpg assembled.jpg

I'm glad there is progress. I'm also looking forward to a new thread with a happy 6.5 motorhome camping trip with no disasters. You have some serious patience, and have been through a long ordeal.

After a tough time getting it started, then having to pump up on set of duals, I was able to finally drive it to the installer.

I think one of my 2 year old batteries was no good. I had the charger on it for days along with the engine heater plugged in, it just wouldn't catch. As soon as I hooked up the jumper cables from my truck, it fired right off.

Now, it's in their hands, along with the parts that I want them to install.

Here's a picture of the Moroso pan that I got from Leroy, all powder coated and ready to replace the "Frankenpan".

The latest on the repower saga.

I was notified that the shifter shaft on the new transmission is too short as compared to the old one.

I emailed pix to peninsular and am now waiting for a resolution.

Here is some pix of it and the Morroso pan next to the Frankenpan.

Looks like Peninsular needs to open it up and swap sector shafts, or authorize a local tranny shop to do it.

Sounds like Pennen

Good news and bad news,

Bad news first,

When I stopped in today to check on progress on my motorhome project, I was informed that there was a new problem. The tail shaft is too short on the new transmission to accept the tail piece the holds the E-brake assembly. Pictures attached.

Good news

I learned the there has been interest in the shop about what I'm going to do with the old engine. I also heard that someone else wants the old GM-2 turbo. Now I'll have to figure out how much to ask for them. What do you guys think?
