6.5L TD Motorhome repair/repower

Guess what showed up yesterday?

But OMG!! did you even bother to let the lines drip/drain at least some of the oil off!! That was the nastiest mess I ever gotten!
The box was covered in oil. USPS had to wrap it in plastic it was so bad! Shit went all over my shop floor and clothing. Next time wipe the parts down a little at least. I don't mind helping you out to make custom hoses, but damn. Did you soak these in a 55 gal drum of used oil then throw them straight into the shipping box? (they were that bad).

I'll get on these soon. They are a bit unusual.

Sorry about that. Although I did warn you in advance.

I didn't wrap them up. I only took what they handed me and box it up. I assumed the were drained and figured what residual oil was on them would stay in the double plastic bags en route to you, guess not. I suppose the extra week of sitting around being lost in the system before it got to you, didn't help.

Again, sorry for the mess I had no intention of creating problems for you. Next time I'll know better.

:bigtears: Man up Leroy! There have been times I have had to wipe the soot off the toilet seat after doing an engine swap and getting a 6.5 lit off in a 1 bay shop. Oh the joys of a antique diesel truck! :woot: Seriously we had to re-paint the shop floor when we were done swapping that blown up engine out. :hungover:

I sent 4 emails to peninsular in the past 8 days, about returning the incorrect transmission that they sent to replace the broken/wrong transmission. I want to return it for a refund, so I can get the Road Ripper 3000 from Certified Transmissions in Omaha.

Based on the desire to go another direction and that the original tranny did not meet specs . . .

Consider a quick and professional letter detailing how the tranny does not meet specs per the purchase agreement, how attempts to remedy the defect are not working, detail any negative impacts you are experiencing due to the lags in resolving the defect(s) (storage costs, etc), and accordingly you are rejecting it for a refund; also, send it via Certified mail. Just stick to the facts as 'getting creative' in the descriptions will not help if things escalate.

Also, prepare for Peninsular to attempt to remedy the situation by taking steps to make good on an acceptable tranny rather than take the current one back and issue a refund.

Update.

I received the refund for the wrong transmission from peninsular. I spoke with Certified Transmissions and they will be sending a truck to pick up my transmission this Monday/Tuesday, to be remanufactured into what the call the Road Ripper 2000 and then return it. They said it would be a 3-5 day turn around, but I assuming that will be in their shop. So I'm betting it will take more like 7-10 days before I see it back. All that trucking for just $70 too.

The only other things I'm waiting for are the custom engine oil cooler lines from Leroy.

With time running out to do several things on the motorhome after I get it back and before we take off for a cruise, I'll just have to scale down some of them. I would really like to do a couple shorter shake down trips be fore the big one too.

Glad to see an ending and new beginning here. Most projects get scaled back at end, due to time constraints/money. I make a punch list in order of importance, and slowly check off. I installed the Energy Suspension Tranny mount yesterday. It was planned for engine swap project, but time, money and health delayed buying part and installing it a year and half. I always wanted to have peninsular do an engine for me, but today not so much. I'll have Leroy ship one instead, when I'm ready

I stopped by the shop today to make sure they had the transmission ready to be picked up tomorrow and to get the exact mileage on the motorhome for the transmission people for warranty purposes. I also took a picture of the empty engine bay.empty engine bay 1.jpg

My original transmission was picked up on Tuesday to be remanufactured. I received an email today from Certified Transmissions to tell me it was ready and also to send the invoice. It's paid for and I hoping to see it next week. I also received notice that Leroy is sending my oil cooler lines too. Then, my 4in to 5in polished stainless turn down exhaust tip also came today. It's looking like things are shaping up, finally.

I wonder if Leroy is sending you back your oil that was in the lines too?

I stopped by the shop yesterday and the transmission was there. They were starting the reassembly process too. :)
