210 hot or NOT?

The idea that MGW laid out for me would use the spin on. The Humvee parts I am trying to get would be for 4 bolt. I got a powerstroke waterpump for the flange. Robyn send me detailed plans, I just need the parts to experiment on. I have a few other ideas on making it work though. The humvee setup would actually be easier to implement if it will work. The Electric will be alot more involved and require some machining of parts which is why I want a junk WP to practice on.

yeah, I'm not doing this to make money. If it works, you guys can build it from the plans I'll post unless someone steals it and sells it...like that never happened...

Like I said just waitin on parts. Gonna try the Humvee setup first. Cool thing is I have one of each so I can try one setup on one truck and the other on the other truck. Need that junk 99+ WP so sooner I get my hands on one, sooner I'll get going on it. I can't blow 150$ on a new one until I am sure I can separate the flange by practicing on a junk one.

I saw there is a dual electric fan made for the Dmax, draws 36 amps. I wonder if it has been tested thoroughly to provide enough air pulling power even while moving 55mph+ uphill towing. Seeing as the 6.5 needs a fan sometimes even when moving.

I might be willing to be the guinea pig on that one. I also don't think electric would work in sustained high EGT situation.

If it will work that would free up a ton of power that could be used to pull the hills and work the motor less. The DMAX fan has to use atleast twice the power of the stock fan, which is less of a problem behind a DMAX engine than a 6.5 which is handicapped in the first place.

Actually owning two 6.5's side by side one with 9 blade steel, the other with dmax, I think at highway speed/higher RPM. the steel pulls more. The dmax seems to work better at lower speeds. Again, my personal experience. everyone's truck is different.

Well if the plastic fan is designed to flex and spill air as it speeds up then that may very well be so.

Cheers

Hey Kenny are things looking up for you now? I was so used to the doom and gloom rain cloud that when you changed to the new avatar I had to look twice to make sure it was you.

I'm glad the gloom is behind you and maybe just maybe you will become an optimist now.

figure I would chime in.

the superiority of a 5 speed 2wd goes only so far! first time since I have owned this that it has gotten a workout in good warm weather (I say warm, as I am going across Wyoming and it is in the 80s.) and she got hot on me. It never went past 235 (the blank large tick mark on the guage between 210 and 260) but it got close.

It is completely understandable though, I haven't cleaned the radiator, the grille and bumper are messed up, and its missing the little part of the bumper scoop that goes by the lines, so possibly not sealing up good enough to direct max airflow through stack, plus I was bucking a headwind. I only pulled over once, but after that I just slowed down and ran 2800-3000 in third whenever it wanted to heat. any time it went over 210 I put it on full heat, defrost, and high on the fan (I know, if I had a full charge of freon, it might run the a/c system, furthering the thermal runaway, so its a good thing it leaks and the safety switches dont let the comp. engage.)

on the flat, she will happily runin 5th, but throw a hill in, and I run out of cooling before I run out of power.

and in case anyone is wondering, after the long hot leg (cheyenne to rawlins) I popped the oil fill cap and dipstick, no blowby, and no oil consumption. I credit the computer de-fueling, the oil cooled pistons, the late 99 cooling system, and the mobil delvac all from scoring number 8. It also sounds the same, so I am 99 percent sure I didnt screw anything up.

I am pulling a 26 foot deckover PJ trailer 14K gross, weighs about 4500 I believe, truck 8500, so 13K bare rig, estimated 500 lbs of JD sickle mower, and estimated 5K worth of 4800 CIH 24' cultivator, so I am at 18-19K estimated. I am going to look into how much they charge to weigh, and if its cheap, I will see for sure.

In conclusion, It seems to have handled the long duration run at above 210. I feel the key is to moderate the heat change. I never let it cool down too fast, which I feel is key to not crack anything. Time will tell to see if I messed it up, and if I did, a teds motor might be getting shipped out. But so far, so good, hopefully she wont die on my 21st birthday, and if she does, I am now able to go drink my sorrows away! :)
