2000 CCLB 6.5 on craigslist

Nice looking truck. He was honest about the blow by in his add too. Lots of guys lie about stuff like that.

I would kill for one of them flat beds, good looking truck but ugly looking motor

The missing air cleaner is a little conserning. Hopefully didn't take it off to blast with ether. All the dangleing wires under the dash is another sore spot. Other than that It looks better than I was expecting from the description in the ad. The low miles is a good thing. I would take a chance on it for that price if it sounds ok turning over.

Plow alone is worth that just about. IF that comes with its a no brainer to buy it.

The other add says parting out, did he already start parting it??

if i buy it i might trade you for your bed i dont know if i will really like the flat bed. but you never know once i start useing it i may change my mind.
i dont like the back of it i didnt take a pic but it drops really low to the ground

he said he took the air cleaner off when trying to get it to start. and now that you mention it he did say that he used ether, but not alot, that is concerning, i forgot all about him saying that. the wireing under the dash he said is wireing for the plow.

no he hasnt started parting it yet i called him about 4hrs after he posted it. he has had some calls about the tranny and flatbed but he said that i have dibbs on the whole thing and he wont sell it out from under me. i wish the plow came with it but he wants an extra 2500 for the plow so 4500 total.

he did mention that he had a new tranny from gm put in about a year ago.

it has come to my attention that this truck may have the security feature on it how can i tell?

also since this is so new can i check the hours? how?

he sent me the vin number and i put a request in for i vin check here on the forum

i went down and messed with the truck some yesterday evening. talked with the owner and this is what he said it was doing when he last drove it about 6months ago

it was really hard to start, but once he got it started it would run fine, he could shut it off and restart it but if it sat for a while it would be hard to start again.

after he tells me this i get the feeling it is the Inj pump and not the pmd but i do the following checks

-with key on there is fuel to the filter
-motor sounds normal when cranking over, but, when cranking with oil fill cap off it cugs white smoke out the fill hole, the air filter is off and i noticed some white smoke coming out of the inlet so i think cdr is ok but thats another problem.
-could not get it to run, hooked a known good PMD on heatsink to it and no change,
-lossened inj line tried cranking it, nothing, took line the rest of the way off and just a few dribbles cam out while cranking
-the ESO clicks when the key is turned on
-a friend came out with his scan tool. didnt get any codes. but check engine light is on.

this truck does have the security function on it. when the key it turned to on the security light turns on but it turns off again. i know that if the security is triped it will keep it from getting fuel. How do i reset that?

i did some research and found this bulletine concerning the IP warranty
this truck falls with-in the requirements so im thinking i may buy it and drag it to the nearest gm dealer, it may cost me to have them do the diagnosis but if it is the IP it will get replace for free with a new PMD

what say you guys?

All the normal no start or hard start stuff. how long is the glow time?

The SES light will always be On while the key is ON and truck is not running.

Make sure the fuel solenoid ground is grounded, the one that is normally on top of the IP, that comes out of the PMD harness loom. Since you are getting some fuel likely its OK.

After the security is reset.....

Unplug CTS.

Unplug OS, crank for at least 10 seconds

Unplug CPS, not at the same time as OS, crank for at least 10 seconds

If nothing else works I would pull the ESO out, take snap ring off and pull the plunger, spin it back on, I have had same symptoms caused by not fully functional ESO. If it doesnt help put it back together.

If the batteries are good, it should start without glows unless its below freezing temps, but it will take 10-15 seconds of cranking. In general I wouldnt crank for longer than 15 seconds straight. Although low batts and no glows would present a problem.

i dont understand how on the little dribble of fuel that i got could possibly be enough to start it there has to be almost 2200 psi to pop the inj. please explain

im new to the ds4 where are those conections you mentioned

Trying to imagine something even as small as 8mm3 of fuel, and the engine runs 1000 combustion cycles on that little of fuel when idling is quite amazing.

How long is the glow time when you tried starting before?

You have much to learn about the electronic injection :)

CTS is the coolant temp sensor, on thermostat housing xover.

OS is the optical sensor, connection on the top of the IP.

CPS is the crankshaft position sensor, connects on a long pigtail that comes up between the IP and the thermostat housing xover. A 3-wire harness.

i have a feeling that i have a ton to learn about the ds4 iv been reading for the last 2hrs
i am also taking a good small wire bush along to clean the grounds and maybe a little sand papper. there should be 3 correct? one on coloant cross over one on pass side rear of the head. and dang it i dont remember where the 3rd is?
