1994 K3500 extended cab dually

Thank you for the link. That setup makes sense. I did some searching to see if that was an improvement over the Skat Blast design, and while I didn’t find a direct comparison, it did seem like that is what people are doing to make a cheap cabinet (like a HF unit) perform as well as a Skat Blast unit. The consumables were neglected and all worn out, now that I’ve replaced them it gave me a couple hours of blasting trouble-free yesterday. I started with the small nozzle, but was able to step up to the medium and my compressor kept up ok. My only gripe now is lighting, so I’ll likely do something to improve that.

I've got 2 of the small clamp type lights with the shroud thing taped to my window, it works very well for lighting ..

@n8in8or , what air pressure are you using? Are you using sand?

My needs are a bit different, I only use 100-120 grit brown aluminum oxide media @ 35 psi on aluminum parts and 45 psi on iron...

I have to strip any painted or coated parts to prevent contamination first.
The filter unit I mounted to the cabinet is reading 80psi with the gun running.

I have been using media from a place about 20 minutes from me. It’s been a while since I bought any new media, but I think it was the 30/60 that I went with.

I never blast components containing bearings or seals.
Juz sayin.
I assume you're referring to the steering gearbox? I debated about how I wanted to tackle that. I ultimately decided to sandblast it, but be careful to not direct the blast directly at the input or output shafts. I'm also going to replace the seals, which should further mitigate any contamination.

LOL looks like someone has been busy feeding that addiction to the sandblaster!
Oh no, not addicted. I would have cleaned all of this stuff up anyway, it was just a lot nicer having the sandblaster to do it with. I'm very ready for this part of the project to be over.....cleaning and painting sucks.

I got everything painted this weekend.

It took just over 2 quarts of KBS Rust Seal and just under 1 quart of KBS Maxx.

This is the first time I had used the KBS Maxx on anything. I chose it because in addition to needing to topcoat the Rust Seal to make it UV stable, I also needed to paint some HD door handles. I’m happy with how the paint turned out. I purposely left the texture more “pebbly” on the door handles, everything else is smoother and I’m happy. Not sure if these pictures do it justice. I’d be tempted to paint the whole truck with this stuff. I’m hoping it holds up well on the door handles.

I forgot to share that I tried one other new thing for this painting session - a light on my spray gun.

WOW. What a huge difference that makes when spraying. So much easier to see what you’re doing, especially when painting pieces like these with a bunch of nooks and crannies. I won’t be spraying paint without it in the future.
