I know what you mean by cracked paint, I had a dorman crank pulley
which was painted black over the rubber and very quickly the paint
cracked away.
on my old HB, the cracks are definitely in the rubber, and some of them are very
deep, and whats most disturbing, they often zigzag right...
just for documentation, I tried to get a few close ups of the dorman
china balancer. this is after 7000 miles of driving.
and no, it didn't look like this when I installed it!
I fully agree on the Dorman chinese balancer being POS!
my initial impression of that junk was here:

Now after 7000 miles on it, I pulled it out and the rubber was totally cracked
up and chunks were missing:cussing:
It looked...
at least on my 95 suburban the drums come off without pulling shafts (14-bolt FF).
I used the 'two hammer method' - place one hammer on the drum between the wheel bolts
and rap it with a second hammer. this broke the drum loose from the flange behind it.
You can do this in several spots for...
Goldsburg is right about different versions of batteries...
And I was totally wrong about the O'reilly super start extremes being Deka's, at least not
over here in California (so my earlier post is wrong and could be removed, mods!, so that
this great site does not get tarnished with my...
I just got two 800CCA O'Reilly super start extreme's (34/78EXT)
as my old 5+ yr old Interstates got tired. $90 each, 3yr full replacement warranty/84 month limited.
as long as they work... it's all good
The fuel rate is low. elsewhere in this forum its stated that a healthy IP will put out about 9 mm3
at idle (accessories off, Park or neutral).
anything less than 4 mm3 was stated to be bad.
also the injection pulse width is high, but that could be because the ignition&batt voltages are...
that could be a sales ad " super tough 6.5L blocks now made with New Caledonian nickel alloy"):h
and then a picture from your truck
yeah let's see what kind of miles we get out of these things, I have a whopping 500 miles :ihih:
on mine and it hasn't grenaded yet...
China is steel - it's the largest steel maker in the world by a long ways, produces more than
a third of the world's steel. It's sucking out raw iron ore from Australia, Brazil and India at
a mind boggling rate. these countries are shipping their land away I tell ya.
but they make some $$ and...
thanks but actually not, it makes me more sad. it means even going to GM doesn't help.
unless there is a difference in quality in GM-chinese and others-chinese
really the question is about quality and not about country "XXX" - when mass production tries
to cut costs too far it'll go bad in...
Thanks guys, I know I should get over it.
at least the new balancer looked better than the old one:thumbsup:
I did another dumb thing and totally forgot that it would have
been the perfect time to change the front crank seal - until I had the
old balancer off and the seal staring back at...
so a while ago I pulled out the harmonic balancer,
rubber had started cracking and small separation
Can't afford a fluidampr so go for a Dorman part (+crank pulley)
some say Dorman balancers are (like) OEM
some say Dorman balancers are good replacements
some say even master Heath sells...
It at least used to be possible to order the XPD directly from the optilube website,
I've been using it for the past year. unfortunately I've only owned the 6.5L
for a year so I don't have any hard data to add on 'improved' lubricity...
at least it hasn't destroyed anything!):h
I need to...
thanks, the sub is still pretty clean as it spent a long time in california even before I bought it. hasn't seen much MUD... which will change as I'm planning to take it with me to Finland when I go back....everything rusts to nothing over there in no time:mad2:
I'm not quite sure what those...
while rummaging under the burb, I noticed possibly missing driver's side support brace from flexplate cover to engine... the brace on passanger side seems solid.
should there be one on the driver's side?
what's the attachment point at the engine end?
