New Dorman balancers

The elastomer (rubber) is the achilles heel in most OEM HB's. I'd replace that one, 7000 or 700000 miles. Looks like a high mileage piece. There is nothing but rubber holding the outer ring to the hub. If the rubber gives up, you've got a failure.

The Fluidampr is a big investment for sure. But it will last the lifetime of the truck and more.

Looks like cracked paint, not cracked rubber.

I know what you mean by cracked paint, I had a dorman crank pulley
which was painted black over the rubber and very quickly the paint
cracked away.

on my old HB, the cracks are definitely in the rubber, and some of them are very
deep, and whats most disturbing, they often zigzag right across the
rubber from metal to metal, breaking the continuity of the rubber.

the strip of rubber that is missing extends about 180 degrees around the
balancer, and is cracked the rest of the way but didn't yet fall off from the
other half.
