Right oh, get an install kit with the new clampless hose.
I waited on the install as I knew injectors, glows, crossover and ATT was going to take a couple days in the driveway. Decent weather makes for sunnier dispositions when working outside!

Install complete including two pins in my thumb!
Well, just about done with the complete install with a few metal additions to the thumb!
I mentioned in my first post about injuring my thumb while swapping parts out. I waited a week or so until my thumb was really red and puffy before going...
Well, the project is on hold for a bit. This weekend was the last of the season for the local ski resort (Mt Shasta) so I took the boys skiing on Saturday. Today it raining like crazy so I'll have to wait for a late afternoon after work to finish up. Still trying to figure out what to do on the...
Ran into a bit of a glitch today with the ATT install. My down pipe is about 3/8" aft of the interface with the ATT. I tried everything to move it forward to match up but no luck. Not a big deal but will have to cut the hangers loose, move the pipe forward a bit, clamp and reweld.
I tried that, cinched up my panties and pulled hard, all I got was a short piece of rubber fuel line! My guess is that the lines/injectors were original and they had lost their integrity.......................... :)

I did the needle nose, utility knife and screwdriver methods but it was still a pain as some of the return nipples were oriented up against the head and it was just flat out tough to get to them.
My injectors and return line kit was from Accurate Diesel.
Chris4521, I'd take the time to...
It was time to install the ever increasing pile of parts gathering in my garage. Pulled the inner fender off the passenger side, pulled the glows, did a compression test and then installed new injectors. Hope to NEVER have to do that again. I followed the directions in the "2hour injector swap"...
Just completed a 1250 mile road trip from Chico CA, across 299 to Crescent City where I picked up 4 large insulated fish totes that stood a good 3' above the cab, then drove up the Oregon coast to Astoria where I dropped off the totes. Rained and blew like he$$ along the coast, good thing I'd...
I'm planning on adding a separate engine coolant temp gauge, where would be the best place on the engine to mount the new sensor? Is there a port available somewhere or would I use the existing sensor (located where exactly?) and just bypass the factory gauge in the dash? Are all aftermarket...
I still have the stock timing as I don't have the gadget to set it! I believe that could be part of the issue regarding power/over heating. If I were to do it myself, which way do I turn the injector pump and how far? I guess I'd just scribe a line on the pump and mounting flange for reference...
I have a Heath ECM in my 99 which is my trailer towing rig, still wasn't impressed with the power or over heating situtation. Perhaps after the ATT, injector, and cross over pipe install things will look up. I'll pull the radiator again to do a thorough cleaning......

Ok, this is not a 6.5L specific question but should apply to any engine and I hope you guys can help.
Back in the early 90's I rebuilt an early 1970's SBC 400. I built it specifically for my jet boat, based on the hp/rpm chart provided by Berkeley Jet drive, it put out 410hp which is what the...
Matt,
I'm not sure! When it comes to towing reasonably heavy, 7K+, in steep hills, in the 100+ degree northern CA summer heat. The 6.5L has not performed nearly as strong as the old indirect injected Ford. I'm not complaining, just stating the results of road tests pulling the same trailer up...
Interesting how all this pans out. Towing my 25' travel trailer, the '89 Ford could run circles around my '99 6.5L with the AC running to boot. The 6.5L is a much more comfortable ride for long trips but even after doing thousands of dollars in mods, it still just isn't the towing machine the...
I had an '89 Ford 7.3 without factory turbo and it was a pig. I bought the HyperMax turbo kit, which is a non-wastegated turbo similiar to the ATT and it was like driving a new truck. We go to Ft Bragg CA each summer and the grades between Clear Lake and Willits used to have the truck bogged...
I'm all for supporting the vendors on the site but I will mention that I replaced the PMD's on both of my 6.5's with a heat sink purchased off of flea bay for about 15.00, bedding compound from Radio Jack and the the harness from PMD Cable.com
I'm a little concerned with the Prestone units. Everyone mentioned the OEM AC Delco units but they were special order from the dealer with a hefty price tag. Kennedy showed the units as Robertshaw, which come highly recommended, even the invoice shows Rshaw. Should I be concerned?
I just purchased new thermostats from Kennedy diesel for my '99. I've had coooling issues in the summer when towing my travel trailer and now I'm seeing the gauge read just over 160 even after driving for an hour straight. Perhaps they are stuck open? Seems like a good place to start is with the...
Big T,
Any thoughts on what you're going to do with the '99 in regards to the upcoming CA smog issues? I've got an ATT sitting in the garage but am hesitant to put it on my '99 because of this.
Lance
I've got an ATT sitting in my garage but am unsure on the install with the new smog requirements on the horizon. I had also planned on either water injection or an intercooler. Does anyone know what years they will be testing and when testing will begin? Will it be an every other year test like...
