Working on the 93......

right tool for the job:

was all ready to put the new bolt in when i found this:

i really think i could straighten it out. i've been told not to but i will try.
NOT. JK.
i will get 2 others cause i think the other might not be up to snuff.
the push rod was so far down in there i almost didn't see it. i'll have to wait to go any farther.

i will replace both rods because i suspect the other one.
arms looked good with normal wear.
thanks for the info guys.

I step away and assume you just got minor things going on and come to find out you have carnage thread entries!

Just listening to the videos you do NOT have enough cranking RPM. Flat batteries, half the starter failed, cables, engine locking up... This is why you need to lean on the glows so much.

It's possible the bolt broke and the pushrod slipped to the side of the rocker, bound the valve spring, then bent. Last time I found bent pushrods, oh wait! The Cumapart was damn near scrap metal needing a head and sleeve when the PO overlooked the bent pushrod. The last 6.5 with bent pushrods is my aviator picture locked and shattered a piston at TDC and maybe recast as a brake rotor now. ( Am I an optimist or what?)

I would rotate the engine over several complete revolutions by hand before hitting the starter just to make sure the valve isn't seized or hitting something. Then to assist in knowing if the valve is bent a compression check.

Not to sidetrack too bad, but...
Is it just me, or does WarWagon seem like a good guy to partner with in a 6 on 2 street fight? Just the excitement in his stories tells me he can scrap...

@deejaaa do you need a couple pushrods, or do you have some?

i picked up 4 push rods, complete rocker assembly, 2 lifters, 2 bent washers and 2 hold down bolts from Wes today. he's a great friend and always seems to help me in one way or another.

yep. not what i wanted to see. main reason i was holding off. .
i'm gonna check wires to starter after i get it going. everything else is HD cables already.
i will hand rotate to check valves first. then compression check.
thanks for the heads up. i will keep thread up to date. if it's not raining tomorrow, i will get on it.

installed 4 push rods, 2 hold down bolts and the rocker assembly. it looked better than the one i had. tomorrow i will rotate by hand. if all goes well, i'll connect lines and give it a crank.

did the preliminaries and then tried to crank it over. it tried to start but had no control with rpm. couldn't get it over 500 and was mostly below that.
pulled # 7, that's the one that had the bent push rod, and hooked up the compression gauge:
it got to 300 and a hair but leak down seems real fast. no strange noises.
intake and turbo are still removed. any thoughts?

Put air in the cylinder and listen for air leakage in the intake runner and or exhaust. My bet would be on a bent valve.
i will do that next, thanks.
i did get it started after i found another rookie mistake: i didn't have the throttle cable hooked up.
lots of raw fuel. i'm with ak diesel, bent valve makes sense.
i ran it to 2500 rpm.

put air in number 1, 7, 5, in that order. all set to 60 psi incoming, rotated engine to close valves. every one of them, when the air went in, rotated the engine a little. none had air escaping. will check again tomorrow with more light.

So it held pressure or just none leaked out the intake or exhaust? Other place to check would be crankcase (bad rings or piston broke). Also check and make sure valve is getting full lift. Possible bad cam (unusual).

between the vids, rigging a pressure tester, dark skies........i'm really not sure what i remember or did or what it did.....i'm a diabetic and my sugar was dropping also.
tomorrow i will start over. will block off EGR ports and the turbo port. need to see if there is suction on the intake ports and go from there.
I suppose a bent piston rod might lower compression too.
yeah. i hope not.
